1. OK well good luck with that. Rosario knew drug testing would be administered going into his contract, and now he will face the consequences. Again I don't have the legal expertise to comment further on whether that's constitutional. But in my expereince with drugs, I think the idea that you can use 2014 super-pot in your off hours and the effects won't bleed into your work is a little preposterous.
2. I won't comment on the legality of drug testing. All I know is I'm more productive as a sober person and not as a half-baked, hungover, or low on sleep person. So it seems reasonable that the company paying 100% of my salary would expect me to produce at 100% efficiency.
3. They could move Dozier to SS but the most appealing 2B to hit free agency next offseason will be (drum roll)... Emilio Bonifacio. So yeah... anymore Cubans coming down the pipeline?
4. MLB is hardly the only employer to test for THC. Its their prerogative. And it makes perfect sense from a productivity angle IMO.
5. Can we say that Freeland has lesser stuff? Here is a report from his 4/4 start against Charlotte http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/game-report-evansvilles-kyle-freeland/ Again, without a denominator we can't figure exact whiff rate. But he threw 97 pitches in that start according to this: http://www.gopurpleaces.com/boxscore.aspx?path=baseball&id=5782 How many offspeed pitches could he have thrown, esp. if he works off his fastball so much - 50? 40? I think its safe to say he's getting whiffs at a high rate on the slider and maybe curve too. I do question the fastball though. If he works so heavily off his fastball and only gets 6 whiffs in a start - that's not a super high percentage. He does get a lot of ground balls with it. In fact he hasn't allowed one triple or home run on the year. Funny thing about this report - Longnecker says "his fastball was very loud, as his high spin rate produced an audible cutting through the air." Well, if that was the cutter, ok you want high spin. But if you want to get ground balls on a 2 seemer you want as little spin as possible to get the most sink.
6. He hit him with ball 3 after getting ahead 1-2. 1 out in the first, 0-0 score. Mauer standing on 1st base. Masterson hung a curveball inner half and Hammer check swung at it as it hit him. Definitely not intentional.
7. 6' 10" sheesh. Big boy. Slegers off to a good start this spring. 27 k's to 4 walks in 28.2 IP. 1 HR allowed.
8. Agree. Barring anything unforseen, I'd be pretty stoked about Jackson.
9. I wonder about injury too. Hard to explain it otherwise.
10. They finally updated the draft board: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2014/#list=draft
11. Yeah no kidding. "Now do you want my autograph? Do you !" to the 7 or 8 people that recognized him. If he wanted to blend in, he would have worn a damn Wild hat.
12. I will have to go back and look at the PA but it wouldn't surprise me if anyone threw at Hammer. He's among the most hit batters because he hogs the plate.
13. Jackson batting .414/.590/.965 with eight home runs and has drawn 16 walks to six strikeouts through 22 games, according to this: http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-7-0-first-round/42690
14. Its still very early, but for all the talk about Abreu's "slider bat speed" here are the fangraphs pitch values:

Season Team wFB wSL wCT wCB wCH wSF wKN wFB/C wSL/C wCT/C wCB/C wCH/C wSF/C wKN/C 2014 White Sox 6 3.8 0.1 -2.8 -0.4 2.8 4.84 0.33 -4.72 -7.48

Seems to be handling fastballs ok too
15. Would an ankle injury affect his plate discipline? I don't know exactly when the injury occurred or how many games he got in before the injury. Combined with the reports that he is now closer to a 60 than an 80, it would be one possible explanation beside "bad luck." http://sbb.scout.com/2/1389607.html
16. Correction, yes, the injury was last year. But injury or no injury there are conflicting reports about the speed. Is he an 80 or a 60 or something in between? If he was an 80 and is now a 60, that might explain some of the drop in BABIP.
17. Turner had an ankle injury that slowed his home-to-first time from 3.5 to the 3.7-3.9 range. Or so I have read. edit: The injury was last year.
18. The exact same suspects that struck out 1430 times all the sudden are showing consistently good zone judgement now. Pretty remarkable really. Credit where credit's due - the coaches.
19. How slow is the bat exactly? And, didn't scouts say that about Jose Abreu too when he played in the Serie Nacional? I don't know if Reed has the same potential - he very well could be a dud. But I am putting less and less stock in reports about "bat speed," or lack thereof. Just from a physics standpoint, the bat on ball force is a product of bat speed AND bat weight. He may have slow bat speed but if he's not getting beat on fastballs and hitting the ball a mile then he seems to be right on the sweet spot. Bat weight isn't fixed therefore bat speed isn't either. Swing a lighter bat, swing faster as the pitching requires.
20. I take back what I said earlier - this team is definitely winning on smoke and mirrors
21. Memo to Twins: when a guy's fastball velocity takes a nosedive, something is wrong.
22. 1 error, 2 rallies killed. Not Florimon's day I guess. Or is it? I can't really tell.
23. There's been a few things go wrong in the early going too. 2 starting outfielders on the DL, slow starts by Mauer, Pelfrey, Nolasco, Hughes... Even Hicks and Florimon have been worse than expected. If everyone stays healthy and a few of those guys start producing, then what?
24. SSS fact: The Twins are on pace to score 116 first inning runs. They scored 65 first inning runs last year.
