Yeah, we have heard this before. Normally I wouldn't miss a chance to rip the FO but people are having a little too much fun with a 4 start sample. edit: Marlins Cubs Mets D-backs
Cameron kinda brushes over the Boras factor. Maybe if he had lowered his sights just a little his clients could have signed before ST. As it is, all of the 13 QO-offered players, including the Boras clients, got at least as much guaranteed money as a QO (prorated in Boras' two cases).
Nelson Cruz 2013: .833 OPS, 2.2 WAR Kendrys Morales 2013: .785 OPS, 2.8 WAR Carlos Beltran 2013: .830 OPS, 2.4 WAR Hammer 2014: .841 OPS, 1.0 WAR At this rate, it would be a mistake not to offer Hammer a QO
I think the Twins are in a strong position with Hammer. If he stays healthy, he's a QO candidate and I for one would hope he accepts. He is by far the most productive outfielder in the system, and maybe the most productive batter period. If they can get a haul in trade, great. A comp round pick would be a good outcome too. So they should be very picky about what sort of offers they are willing to entertain IMO.
Question about Rod Carew for the old guys Carew transitioned from 2B to 1B in September of his age 29 season (1975). According to BB-Ref, he had been basically a league average defender. Bob Randall, the guy who replaced him, put up just 3.8 WAR player over < 5 years at 2B... Why did he move? edit: just found this: http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/245904391.html Does anyone else remember Carew struggling to t urn the double play? BB-Ref says he was worth +2.4 dWAR from age 21 thru 29...
Theyre close. They had 650 strikeouts through the fist 83 games last year (20.3% clip). But in the second half they struckout 780 times in 3017 PAs (25.9% clip) and finished with 1430 Ks in 6212 PAs (23.0%). This year they have 696 Ks through 83 games (21.8% clip). So they just need to on a similar 2nd half slide and they'll top it.
Just read my first Stephen King book, Misery, which I enjoyed. Now I'm debating between The Dark Half (another King book) and Pure Drivel by Steve Martin (I can't read two books at once).
I'm skeptical Plouffe has turned any kind of corner with the glove. IMO he makes the easy plays a high percentage of the time, but still has no range. Interesting to watch Escobar play. He plays really close to the line and has a lot more range. I'm not a believer in the bat but between him, Romero, Nunez, I think we could cobble together similar production out of 3B if Plouffe were to go.
Why not sign him to an extension? The notion that everyday AB's is the cause of Parmelee's hot streak is preposterous. He got more AB's in May (when he OPSed .556), and more last September (when he OPSed .663) than he got this June. I don't know if he made an adjustment or is getting lucky (he has only 1 HR over the past month). What almost certainly isn't the cuase of the hot streak though, is more AB's.
