  1. I'm cautiously optimistic. Losing Allen sucks but Barr could make up for it. If they hit on a few rookies and Cassell or whoever wins the QB job can complete a downfield pass once in a while then they might win a few games. There is some talent on both sides of the ball, but critically missing at QB and MLB.
  2. I wish it were more obstructive. For example I can see from my New Content page that there are new replies to the Trevor May thread, but in my other window where I have the thread open, there is no notification to view the new comments. Even after clicking in the text editor (I don't have any comment to make right now). It would be great to have comments update in real time insteading of hammering F5 (especially in game threads), which I suspect this feature was designed for. Anyway, I'll wait and see how it goes.
  3. This is a terrible idea. Final word to the wise - if at any point you want to get a lap dance, don't get lured into Deja Vu (on Washington, 3 blocks east of TF). Instead, go straight up Washington to West Broadway to a little place called BJ's. You won't be disappointed.
  4. That is maybe my favorite feature of the new site. Very convenient.
  5. I love the "there are new replies" notification but it only seems to pop up when typing something in the reply window, is that right? And when I click "Show me," I am taken to the last of the new replies, so I have to scroll up x number of replies to see what was written before the last one (if there are multiple new replies). Would be handy if that notification popped up when reading the thread, and then after clicking "show me," taken to the first unread reply, not the last.
  6. Its hard not to be encouraged. Vargas comes up, gets peppered with offspeed stuff, makes an adjustment, then takes an offspeed pitch deep for his first HR. All within the span of a week.
  7. Pros: 5 year tutelage under Maddon, where he did "everything Joe does, except [didn't] have to deal with the media," Familiar with AL competition Shift savvy Playoff Experience Bilingual Outside blood Young Cons: a little too bunt/steal friendly IMO - but that could be more a result of coaching a bunch of slap hitters for the most part edit: Eh I take that last part back. The Rays have had plenty of pop since 2007. They get thrown out too much on the bases, and that is a significant knock on him IMO.
  8. I would be too but I believe the Jays and Red Sox will both be looking to hire new managers (others?). If one of them gave Gardy a call, maybe he and the Twins would agree to part ways (or make a trade - as the Sox acquired Farrell)? I could see it happening.
  9. Dave Martinez
  10. I'm not sure but I think Melvin's as tired as we are
  11. I think that's what they call "pitching backwards"

  13. So... turns out the mystery team that claimed Cole Hamels wasn't the Twins. We can all exhale now.
  14. TD Modcon? http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/Kerri-Kenney-Thomas-Lennon-Robert-Ben-Grant-Niecy-Nash-Wendy-McLendon-Covey-Cedric-Yarbrough.jpg

  16. Dozier... what a tease. Am I right Chitown?
  17. IKR? Only... look at that unibrow? http://i.imgur.com/M0RfWBO.jpg?1
  18. No way could I list 10 thoughts about the A's and Twins and not have one of them be something sophomoric about the name Reddick. You're the best RB!
  19. Haha some guy in the A's crowd brought a saxaphone and played the full Careless Whisper during Reddick's at-bat.
  20. Undoubtedly. But I don't demand quality from a free site where anyone can register and submit an article. If you are going to insist on quality writing then it seems to me you will have to change the entire model TD has going here, which will utlimately translate to less content, no? And OC is a big reason I come here, even if every authors prose isn't Shakespearean or some arguments are unsound or unsupported by facts. In fact I'd argue that the discussions those postings sometimes initiate is where TD really shines. edit: here's a perfect example http://twinsdaily.com/blog/356/entry-5291-what-does-walker-have-to-do/
  21. Anyone care to explain what's going on with the Twins' handling of Garver? From my perspective, its hard to see why he would not be advanced in front of, for example, Jairo Rodriguez or Kyle Knudson.
  22. I vote for more lax editorial standards. TD is a free site, I don't expect ESPN insider-level writing from every author. And there is a lot of downtime in the offseason (and during the season when the club sucks) where I would rather have a bunch of short, perhaps poorly-written posts to read and comment on than a few long and well-written ones.
  23. There actually was a small collision on that play and the reason is because Martin was in the runner's lane, because he had the right foot touching home instead of the left. If he had put his left foot on home and given the pitcher an infield-side target, but the throw forced him across the baserunner's path, that would have been a different story. But that's not what Martin did - he setup in the runner's lane and remained there to catch the throw.
  24. I think so too. That would seem to be consistent with Ryan's MO and the reputation he seems to cultivate. If you look at the top candidates for release to make room for Meyer, you can find similar reasons Ryan wouldn't DFA or relase - eg. Colabello: turned down $1m Korean offer to stay with Twins. Deduno: pitched well since moving to zero leverage mop up duty. Burton: no quite disasterous enough to justify cutting bait in a contract year (same as Correia) The Twins might very well believe Meyer has earned a promotion but are running into a conflict with the way they prefer to deal with releasing or optioning players, and the FA reputation they want to uphold. Its kinda sad that Pino seems likeliest to get optioned again despite flashing better peripherals than Correia and more long term promise.
