  1. Mauer has some funny splits so far this year - .764 against LHPs and .629 against RHPs. You can probably look at those in a glass half full or empty way. Final line prediction: .275/.335/.410.
  2. I won't pretend to be the expert here, but Walker is going to be Rule 5 eligible this winter along with 14 other players, and he hasn't even cracked AAA yet. Compared to other college players the Twins have drafted, Brian Dozier for example, he's nearly a year behind while putting up roughly similar production at each level. And Dozier is considered a late bloomer. If the Twins continue to slow cook a fringy, college-drafted player like this, it seems like they risk handcuffing themselves later when it comes time to test him against MLB competition.
  3. Also mentioned in that article: http://www.startribune.com/adam-brett-walker-is-long-on-power-short-on-consistency/306439531/ That seems consistent with a BP scouting report from last year: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/eyewitness_bat.php?reportid=99
  4. So for this season: vs. LH starter: .268/.324/.423 (.747) vs. RH starter: .235/.286/.344 (.630) That gap is almost as big as their home/road split (.740 vs .609).
  5. Remember that HR he hit off Matt Barnes in spring training? It was a 95 mph fastball that he hit on a rope over the left field wall. Is that indicative of Walker's approach? Is he a dead fastball hitter? Trying to get a bead on what exactly is the issue with him.
  6. Because KLAW is ok with Twins-specific sections being reposted here, for free?
  7. Personally I would not call Buxton up unless/until he dominates for an extended time at AAA. There are enough workarounds in the OF for the time being that they don't need to jeopordize the development of their best prospect. I would say the same for Sano. IMO the guys you would be willing to recall directly from AA are the Walkers, Joneses, maybe Rosarios - guys who are not top flight prospects but could potentially catch fire while filling more pressing holes (SS, DH, RP).
  8. I was sort of wondering if they'd keep stockpiling college relievers but they drafted some LH bats instead, and some pretty interesting ones too IMO.
  9. Isn't Plouffe's natural stroke to pull the ball? I have to think the counter-adjustment should be relatively easy/quick.
  10. Walker's one of those prospects where I would look at constructing a hard red light-green light matrix for. I know nobody likes that idea because every at-bat is special and a system like that wouldn't take the game situation into account but clearly he has the talent but is his own worst enemy when it comes to aggressiveness at the plate.
  11. It doesn't to me either. That's why I'm kinda wondering how widespread it is, and how much merit there might be to the strategy of targeting college pitchers who have been miscast in relief roles. We know that Fulmer and Tate were put in the pen too (before this year). But that's 3 guys and I don't follow college ball enough to understand how widespread the practice is.
  12. He won last Christmas's ugly sweater competition and everyone would rather not pay up for his prize?
  13. Is that a widespread practice? Also, fewer games > more rest > more starts/innings from your best pitcher, no? Eg. Jay had 28 relief appearances totalling ~58 innings. Whereas his teammates were starting 15-16 games and 100 innings plus. Seems like a bad tradeoff.
  14. Twins get Robinson and Lemonte from U of MD. Lemonte a junior, hit for a good average but little pop. LH bat again.
  15. From http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/-8123261326113099881/kolton-kendrick-mlb-draft-2015/
  16. Another interesting LH bat. Sounds like he'll have to hit or he'll be out of a job tho.
  17. Like the Paul pick. Strong senior season at Cal seems to have followed from a change to his swing.
  18. That's the part that gets me. One college coach off his rock? Sure. But, all of them? I mean we'll see how the rest of the draft goes but with last year's harvest of college relievers and now Jay, it seems increasingly likely that the Twins feel there is a widespread inefficiency across college ball where coaches are miscasting starter talents. What would be the explanations for this?
  19. I'm done waiting. No Royals on my ballot. AL C- Vogt, 1B- M. Cabrera, 2B- Kipnis, 3B- Donaldson, SS- Semien, OF- Bautista, Trout, Cespedes, DH- Cruz NL C- Posey, 1B- Goldschmidt, 2B- Wong, 3B- Frazier, SS- Peralta, OF- Stanton, Harper, Pederson
  20. Pelfrey looked as good as I've ever seen him yesterday. He was dealing. 93-96 with the fastball and good changeup command, everyone was off balance. Kinda reminded me of Pavano's good years with the Twins. If I had any confidence that he might log as many innings as Pavano did, an extension would seem like a better idea. But I doubt anyone believes he'll be healthy/effective for 2-3 years after the past 3 seasons with him. A QO might be an option though.
  21. Trenton Clark batted .458 with 10 HRs as a junior in 2014. This year he batted .552 with 3 HRs but 34 walks. Sounds like he was pitched around more this year: http://usatodayhss.com/2015/all-usa-watch-pitchers-were-wary-of-throwing-to-richlands-trenton-clark
  22. I read somewhere a great suggestion about interleague play: when a opposite-league team comes to town, play by their rules. That would give AL fans the joy/pain of watching their pitchers bat and vice versa, give NL fans the joy/pain of watching a DH.
  23. All the issues raised pre-date the current losing spat. They have been pretty obvious for a while in fact.
  24. Cuddy, Hardy and Valencia were the only RHs in those days. That is the way to do it IMO. Just blitz the opposing starter with opposite handed bats and worry about matchups when the opponent forces the issue hopefully because they've had to yank the starter for putting his team in a hole.
