Look at theTwins roster of players in the majors and minors and see there is diversity.     forget shields , marcum , grienke haren ...kevins will be here ,im sure corriea and slowey after all terry lyan said 3 starters , he didnt say good starters , or he had his fingers crossed , you know its something like that ....we couldnt compete dollar wise , the market didnt justify those number of years we made an offer we tried dont know what went wrong ....same ole same ole

    so terry lyan is still living on his 1 good trade(or lucky trade i claim) he took a young all star offensive high average with pop and solid defensive catcher who also was left handed and traded for a #2 starter and a soft tossing AAA and a A pitcher...and this is what the legend of curly lyan is built on? 18 years is enough, he would trade an oil well for a dried mummy fart my favorite twins moment is the day the 3 stooges get there walking papers

    tori turned his back on the twins? really, not in my book it was a typical short offer to show the fans we wanted him back but not for what he was worth ...like nathan , kubel,cuddyer,santana and just about every other vemonised former twin

    with tampa looking to add a catcher , 3b,(yes they have longoria), 1b of(cf) and a dh why not trade ham and span for shields and hellickson? then offer up a couple of marginal prospects for vernon wells and 38 million , wells is a better fielder then ham and does have some pop we would be giving up 12 million in payroll and adding about 17 million,still leaving enough to add another starter, some pen help and posibly a middle infielder

    personally, id love to see the reincarnation of rice and lynn in the twins outfield in 2014, as for berrios, give him 5 starts look at his record his games his mistakes his confidence and if warrented move him up, remember if griffey jr. was a twin he probally wouldnt make the show till he was 24-25years old , time for new blood and new thinking

    josh spenser was claimed by the zoo york Yankees , he is a 24 year old lefty fron san diego, he didnt have a good year in 2012, but his combined 2 seasons in the sun he has 40 innings pitched 41 ks and a 1.275 whip with the twins wanting pitching is there a reason we didnt claim him?

    The analogy doesn't work (not well for Bark either, but to stick with it) because the problem here isn't that you totally punt 2013 and 2014, it's just that you avoid investing money and assets into acquiring someone who won't be here any longer than that. If you want to pour a bunch of money into a guy like Grienke or Marcum or someone likely to be here 2-4 years. Fine. But trading Span and a minor leaguer to get a guy there is virtually no chance you resign in two years? That's bad organizational planning. so you want to keep 13 pitchers 3 catchers and 6 outfielders?,id love to keep span and trade lil ben , but ...who is worth more

    If that's what the Rays are asking, they can keep Shields. He's a good, not great, pitcher who is due to make ~$22m over the next two seasons. It doesn't make sense to pay significant prospects for a guy who isn't priced much below what he'd get on the free agent market. shields was the 11 best starter in 2012 , and was ranked higher in 2011...and which pitcher of the twins broke the top 50? top 75even?

    but there payroll went down 18.4 from 2011 to 2012 already,and twins llc claimed to have earned 26 million in profit while some have speculated they actually earned closer to 60 million... just jipppy squeezing more from the team ,same old ,same old...thanks for the new stadium folks now watch the worst team in the a.l. while i count my profits Where did you find that Twins LLC earned $26M in profit? I have seen some financial estimates on baseball teams, but I've only seen two real financial statements, and those were leaked during the early 2000's, I believe, and neither were from the Twins. Baseball teams are private companies that hold their financial information very close to the chest. I've never heard of a team intentionally disclosing profits to the public. Are you sure you saw profit and not working capital or something like that? I would like to see a link if you find that. i read it 1st here on a thread that had a link to another source, i have read it on twinkie town

    If each team gets $25M more--including the Twins--with no additional expense, why would teams only have an extra $12.5M to invest in major league payroll? My assumption is the Twins have a lot of fans hoodwinked with this "we can only, ever, under any circumstances, invest 50% of revenue to payroll" line they've been selling us for years. If that revenue to player payroll ratio was reasonable in the dome, there is no reason to believe it's still reasonable with the increased revenues of TF. And there sure as heck is no reason to believe only half of a $25M windfall can be invested in player payroll. Where would the other half go, besides into ownership's pockets? It's not like the Twins will incur any additional expense, they'll simply be getting a bigger national TV check. we seldom agree on anything , but i totally agree chief, but you understand being a 1%er is a desease right?

    i will argue they want mlb players over prospects, with the red sox in turmoil and the yankees being old, this may be the time for the rays to make the move...,but with tampa you never know ,right now they have 11 starters that could make the twins rotation better between there bullpen rotation and AAA ,but i think shields is a must for the twins and faster the better,with james on board it will only make signing other free agents that much easier

    kc has been linked twice with the rays including a block buster trade of price and shields or shields and hellickson tampas needs are another 3b catcher outfielder (cf) 1b and a dh(buster onley)would a package of willingham span, herrman and hermsen be enough to get both shields and hellickson? then turn around and trade a pair of marginal prospects to the angels for vernon wells and 38 of his 48 million? i believe wells is a better outfielder the ham and may actually rebound nicely in minnesota nice no pressure citys?

    terry ryan has been the general manager or senior advisor for 18 + seasons and i claim has made only 1 lucky trade, some have pointed out 2-5 trades curly has made, but if you can count on 1 hand the number of good trades a gm has made in 18 years, then maybe its time to hire a senior advisor for him... andy Macphail has tie to the twins was here for the 1987 championship , and i think he would be very useful in balancing ryans inepititude in making good trades and could also help in the the 2 drafts coming up ... and your opinons?

    so is joe webb a quaterback or reciever? is he gonna play this decade or just sit on the bench and attend meetings... but i like the idea of adding another qb to the mix,preferably a veteran rather then a struggler..ponder should have held the clip board for at least 1 complete season if not 2 before being thrown into the fire,
