  1. Miranda playing 1B is the least of our worries on this roster. Lopez is an extremely valuable trade piece. One option to dump salary would be to package him with Vasquez and/or Paddack (or all 3) to a high revenue team for a slew of young, hopefully good players. If someone comes asking about Correa, and it is a market he would like to play in, pull the trigger. Same for Buxton. In other words: Tear it down to the studs and start playing all the young, inexpensive players to see who can play and who can't. We are stuck in the middle now and it isn't going to yield post-season success and is only frustrating for fans. Meanwhile, hope the Pohlads find a buyer who is interested in fielding a competitive team in the current MLB environment.
  2. If the goal of the WS is to have the best players, why don't we just have an All Star game WS at the end of the year, with the best players in each league assembled for a final series? Will a NY/LA series get good ratings? Of course: they are the two largest market teams. Which just reinforces the whole point. MLB is a disparate league, and in the end it will destroy the game because teams in the rest of the country will grow tired of supporting their local team which is playing against a stacked deck year after year. Think the WS is getting good ratings in Pittsburgh?
  3. Anyone who thinks MLB is a level playing field is burying their head in the sand. The major market teams have a HUGE advantage each and every year. Sure they miss on some big FA signings, but then they just go sign someone else instead. Being able to go get a Gerrit Cole for a total stud, Ace, without giving up any prospects is undeniably helpful to a team. Signing an Ohtani without giving up any assets, same thing. And wait until he starts pitching, too! MLB is circling the toilet as a competitive league. The gap between the Dodgers, Yanks and Mets of the world and the Pirates, Rockies and Rays is simply unfair. It would be like playing under the NFL system and one team gets $400M in cap money to build their roster and another team in the same division gets $75M. Sure, the underdog might win, but not in the long run, no frickin' way. The only thing I can think of is to get a truly strong League President who decides to get MLB's house in order and negotiate a fair deal with MLBPA that gets more money in their collective pockets but spreads the money equitably so there is parity instead of massive disparity. I am not watching a minute of the WS, could not care less which of these juggernauts beats the other one.
  4. How about letting Eales come up if Lee is still rehabbing? Gotta be better than Julien in the field, and definition of a plucky player and a terrific story.
  5. I don't think the Twins can mathematically be .5 games back at the end of this series. They will either be up .5 if they sweep, 1.5 if they split last 2, or down 3.5 if they drop the next 2.
  6. It is strange to me in this "information age" that high-profile players like Jenkins can fail to start games with zero information as to their status. Are the Twins deliberately closed-mouthed, or is SOP these days? He sure has missed a lot of games for someone that young and spry.
  7. I am OUT, folks. First, the built-in inequity of MLB is just terrible. Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers, etc., have too many inherent advantages and it is not a level playing field for mid and small market teams. Complete opposite of the NFL system. Second, the Pohlad's do not appear to be interested in fielding a top team. They want a decent team, not a championship team. Why should I support that? Third, this team is not competitive with the top teams. They have a .200 win percentage vs. the Yankees last 20 years, including multiple playoff sweeps. Fourth, I HATE watching losing teams. I invest too much emotionally. I know this is my flaw, but it is what it is. This team is going nowhere, even if they sneak into the playoffs. The 12 game streak gave me some hope, but they suck ever since. Good luck guys! I will monitor from afar but can't invest time and energy into this lousy and inequitable product. It just eats me up inside.
  8. I think this is a lot of hand-wringing for not much real impact. It is not like the remaining Twins have been tearing the cover off the ball. And odds are someone is bound to get injured in the next couple weeks and Julien will be right back up.
  9. Gopher ball has killed Ober this year. Is he tipping pitches, or just horse-bleep location?
  10. This is an impending decision that the Twins FO made for themselves, hopefully with eyes wide open. I advocated this off-season that a smart FO should have made one of two decisions: 1) Trade Kepler this past off season for max value (no pun intended); or, 2) Extend Kepler then. To do neither puts them now in this situation. It is almost like they were betting he would not do well this year or something so they could let him walk. Weird. Now they can: 1) Let him walk for nada; 2) Extend an expensive QO which may or may not secure his services; 3) Trade him before the trade deadline as a "rental" (and, hence. likely less value than a trade last offseason); 4) Extend him now or re-sign him later. Option 1 is idiotic, 3 hurts the team's chances this year in all likelihood, and, if 4, why not do the deal last off season? I can't see the Twins FO choosing 2, the QO, given their professed budget constraints this year.
  11. Ryan 65 pitches through 5, 42 of them strikes. This guy is pretty good.
  12. Larnach picks up Miranda!
  13. Need their big boy pants on today vs. Gilbert. Hope the Twins surprise and jump him early.
  14. I am wondering whether they will DFA him when Lewis comes back. He has not performed well, to be sure. Hope he figures things out---soon. And CCHOF is right; Kearsey has been killing it a AAA in all 3 areas Margot has deficient in.
  15. Those two players did look bad, but Castillo is one heck of a pitcher and his stuff looked nasty tonight. Correa was the only one who seemed to be able to barrel him up at all.
  16. Re: Max. I counseled last winter that their true choice was to either trade him or extend him. Now if they choose to keep him it is gonna cost them!
  17. 1) Ownership cutting payroll even before they knew how the TV issue would be resolved; 2) FO for LOUSY decisions on how to spend the available funds. Farmer, Santana, and Margot. DeScal trade. No meaningfull SP additions, only subtractions. 3) Batters are underperforming, especially with RISP. Pathetic.
  18. All accurate. Plus cutting payroll 20% after a good season. Terribly disappointing approach to the season. This really emphasized the tired "Twins are cheap" idea. But this year, it rings very true.
  19. Wish they had been rained out. Correa out for God knows how long. To add insult to that injury, all the minor league squads got smoked tonight, too. Good night.
  20. Does not look good for tonight, have no idea if they are going to try and fit it in. Rain showers and 24 mph winds, not ideal for outdoor baseball to be sure!
  21. Weather looks pretty wet on Friday, too. Would certainly rather play the games later in the season when-hopefully-the bats are going.
  22. Buxton ends the streak! Woohoo! Now need to get the BA with RISP above the Mendoza line.
  23. Darn, Twins can't reach 20 K;s. Max will be 18. This is unwatchable baseball. Dodgers are superior team in EVERY way. These 2 teams could play 10 games and the Twins might win 1. Nice parity, MLB.
  24. 0--28, and counting. I read that the 2022 Cubs went 0-47, so we do have a ways to go with the 2024 Twins.
