  1. I do give the FO Kudos on planning for depth this year. 1B - AK got hurt 2B - Polanco got hurt SS - Correa supposedly has Plantar fasciitis 3B - Lewis got hurt, Miranda as well CF - Buxton hasn't played their yet Bench - Gordon Pitching - De Leon, Alcala, Ryan, Mahle, and there is talk the starters are tired? And the biggest one was that the training staff hasn't found an issue with Gallo to put him on the IL. (maybe bilateral leg weakness)
  2. If you give him a 20% increase that puts him just shy of 180, and the Twins are 2/3 of the way though the season so he was right on track.
  3. Is it? aren't guys getting hurt at about the same level, and now talk of the pitching tiring at the 2/3 point of the season? With that said, win a playoff game and keep their jobs, don't and fire them simple as that for me. Rocco for me needs more than a win to keep his job, he needs to not get out managed as well. I generally agree with the moves this FO makes (not Gallo and the relief decisions) but I don't enjoy the brand of baseball that is played. It is a sad thing watching the Twins and being surprised when a player doesn't strike out, and watching other teams and being surprised when a top player does strike out.
  4. You are correct I pasted the wrong OPS for him, my only point was that Cossetti is two levels below and they are basically the same age, he could shot though the minors and pass Carnargo but as of now he is the basically the same age two levels down and I think that matters when looking at players and saying one has better numbers. I generally am not a huge fan of a 23 year old in A+, unless their path puts them in AAA this year.
  5. Cossetti (will turn 24 in a month and in A+) - .806 OPS Winkel (will turn 24 in January in AA) - .773 OPS Camargo (just turned 24 one month ago in AA) - .810 OPS Catchers usually take longer so age really isn't a huge factor here, but I think Camargo on the hitting side is the best prospect.
  6. IMO, there is little to no reason to have him starting. He pitched 37 innings in 22, 23 in 21, 0 in 20, so we are talking about 3 years to get him up to the 120 innings and more and will be 29 by that time. He stuff seems crazy good, so there is no real reason he needs to be in the minors other than a tune up and make sure he is good to go. Then you get him to the majors and be smart with how you manage his innings. I have been waiting for him to come in a dominate the end of games for a couple of years now.
  7. correct on the numbers, but it isn't like it has been his last 10 - 20 inning that haven't been good, it goes back 50 - 60 innings.
  8. Ryan's ERA for July was 6.39, His ERA for June was 4.83 (and that included his shutout). Going into June he had pitched 66 innings and his last start in May was 4 inning and 5 runs, are we talking about his arm being tired after 66 innings? It has to be something else, doesn't it? I mean we knew he wasn't as good as his first 10 starts, very few are, but he isn't as bad as his last 10 starts?
  9. Did I say they haven't pitched well? But since you asked Ryan besides his shutout hasn't pitched that great since May, is that a sign he is wearing down? Or is it a sign he isn't a sub 3 ERA guy and actually is the guy with a 3.96 career ERA? Or is it a sign of the Twins philosophy on pitching and training might need a tweak? Gray's ERA has been creeping back to his career average as well. it is a sign that getting tired or is it just a regression to the pitcher he really is? Same with Ober. The Rays? so you really mean Efflin and McClanahan because they only have 1 other starter with more than 50 innings and he is a 22 year old. So McClanahan is tiring? weird he didn't tire last year when he pitched 166 regular season innings, so I don't know when he has been struggling. Not sure of Efflin but he had been pitching way better than his career numbers and some regression should be expected. You are confused because you don't want to hear the reality of the situation and want to compare team numbers instead of the individual numbers. they are grown mean and should be hitting their stride for a stretch run and you think they are tired and need a break? And if that is the actual case then it is more reason this FO has to go
  10. Only Lopez (7th) is in the top 27 pitchers in innings pitched, Ryan 28th, Gray 40. so I don't really care about how the Twins starters have pitched the most innings as a team, because individually they are not. That we are talking about giving them a breather is just an example of the process not working.
  11. Floro, Maeda, Moran, Ortega, Winder, Solano, Castro, Gallo and Taylor is 9 of the 26 man active roster. And they are going to replace them with prospects on the 40 man and the active roster? You are talking about 40% of rotation, 67% of the starting outfield and 50% of the relief core being replaced by prospects, lets be honest that isn't happening.
  12. The thought that the Twins starting pitchers are starting to wear down 110 games into a season is a very sad statement. First this team has been hit with a lot of injuries and the starters can't hold up over a season when they are barely over 100 innings. That is a sad statement of the process of this FO.
  13. There have been a few of us calling for at least a promotion to AAA. The problem is he plays 2nd and 3rd. Not a lot of room at 2nd, and third is tough to bring him up and play 3rd when Polanco was returning, Lewis on the horizon and him passing Miranda. He isn't on the 40 man and another problem with Buxton being a DH only player. The signing of Gallo and Buxton being a DH has hampered the roster construction all year and not getting rid of Gallo or Kepler months ago. On top the the ignorance of this FO to Tell Wallner and Julien to get a first baseman's glove while they were in the minors was terrible as well. I would also like to add imagine if they hadn't traded Steer, what would they do with him? Because of course he never played first in the Twins minor leagues, but guess what Cincy played him there 2 games last year in AAA and that is now his main position. Sometimes this FO seems clueless.
  14. It isn't Larnach fault that the FO make a huge mistake and signed Gallo, that is 100% correct. I would take Larnach over Gallo as well. But Larnach has done nothing in 3 years and close to 600 at bats in the majors to earn the allocates people are giving him. It is a Ok major league player, he is not a foundation player.
  15. Totally makes sense not to trade a 26 year old AAA player that will be 27 when next season starts, I get that.
  16. #3 makes little to no sense. We are to believe they put together a team that is in first place and 2/3 of the way though the season the don't think it is good enough so they do nothing? First if they believed that then they should be fired for putting this team on the field or they should be fired for not trading away FA to be, simple as that. It is more likely they found they were no real upgrades at a cost they were willing to pay and believe the team they put together that is in first place 2/3 of the way though the season is good enough as is (or when healthy) to make a legit run. To all of those people that don't think this as isn't good enough to make some sort of run (not saying they will) is very defeatist attitude. They have three maybe 4 pitchers that can on any day and any start shut down any lineup for 6/7 innings. They have Jax and Duran who can close out any lineup. They have Correa, Buxton, Julien, Lewis who if they get hot at the same time can carry a team for a week or so. With that said I would have tried like heck to upgrade the pen, it would be nice to have 4 or 5 guys you feel comfortable throwing out there at anytime. (Duran, Jax, Theilbar, Stewart and another)
  17. The guy I want is Teoscar Hernandez., he should be fairly cheap and will be playing for a contract next year, and he is the type of player that can get hot and carry a team for a week or longer. Thinking Shannon Stewart type signing.
  18. So basically third time is a charm? Besides Julien and Lopez, mostly the same team as last year and this year.
  19. I don't disagree he could be, and I would have had him up months ago, but the Twins didn't, he didn't come up until a last resort. If the Twins think he really only his a depth type of guy, and another team thinks he could be more, trade him is all I am saying.
  20. Which young guys are you talking about? Gordon? Larnach? Miranda? Wallner? They already have Jeffers and Julien, nobody is talking about sitting or trading them. Lewis has been good in his limited at bats the last two years and nobody is talking about sitting (when healthy)or trading him. So it comes down to Larnach (who in 582 at bats has been Ok at best) and Wallner and those are the two people are talking about. I have seen enough of Larnach and the Twins don't seem to think Wallner is the answer. And the next group of guys that have a legit shot of playing for the Twins this year are not young prospects. Unless people are talking about Lee and Schobel, and I am 100% behind getting them action, I wouldn't be against giving a smoking hot Prato or Severino a shot, but if they don't this year they just turn into the next old group of prospects that teams in contention usually don't throw into a lineup except as a last resort because if they stumble out of the blocks they end up back in the minors at 26 and older. By all means trade Solano, Farmer, Kepler, Gallo, not sure they return much of anything and give guys a shot, but also trade to help shore up the pen. But I will say this over and over, if the trade off veteran depth and bring up or play the Larnach's and Wallner's of the world and they stumble and end up calling up Stevenson, Contreras types end up not winning the division they should be and probably will be fired. So like I said in my initial post they should be looking to trade some guys out and bring some guys in.
  21. I guess you missed the part you initially replied to where I said - With that said, they should be doing some selling and some buying this year. I was replying to somebody that basically said sell off hand the jobs to prospects, some of which haven't been good for a while and one that has been terrible this year. When you are in first and have been terrible the last two years, you can't dump everything and say we are going fully young guys because our real goal is 24 or 25. They should be dumping some Vets and "prospects - Larnach/Wallner/Miranda" and replacing the players traded away with prospects and some Vets all while getting and sending some other minor league players.
  22. Is it? seems like their young guys came in last year and were good (Baltimore was better than MN last year) and good their second year, not saying they are vastly different, but Miranda not good second year, Lewis hurt again, Larnach hurt and not good. If they go with the young and the guys continue to be not great, pushing it back even further correct?
  23. If they weren't good enough last year and aren't good enough this year, how the heck do you expect basically the same group plus younger guys to be next year or the year after that? With that said, they should be doing some selling and some buying this year.
  24. So 24,25,26 have a better chance of catching lightning then 23, were they are in first place on 7/31? Yes the magic of the unknown future is more alluring than the present. Been pretty consistent for quite a while in Twins Land. I don't believe anybody has said mortgage the future, to be honest beside Lee not really sure who the future in the minors leagues is? The guys that are good in the minors are older and the young guys are far away. Also when is the last time the Twins did a mortgage the future trade? I would say never, last year they probably traded more than ever, but lets be honest they didn't mortgage the future.
  25. Remember when people were saying nothing to see here, the Twins have the easiest second half schedule?
