  1. Was going to say the same, the only pressure on Vasquez is the pressure he puts on himself.
  2. I am not giving up on him, but it is pretty to easy to understand. Even last year when he was great , He was pretty much unplayable against left handed pitchers. .119/.196/.286/.481 So you need another roster spot to cover fro him against lefties.
  3. I disagree with this completely, Young guys on good teams succeed. IMO the best scenario for young guys is to be given a spot and left there to develop and not have guys like that all over the field.
  4. First he didn't start the year in the majors he was called up April 10th, Second He is barely 20 years old, way different than being 25 (Julien) and 26 (Wallner and AK),
  5. If he starts 31 games, he is 40% of the way there and that is concerning and has been below replacement level so far. I believe he will do better going forward,
  6. It should have been 3 runs, no way he should have been left in to face the McMahon, I don't care if it was a lefty/lefty match up Thielbar had nothing last night, Was watching the game with my son last night, and he was mad Varland was pulled, and I told him I understood the reasoning behind the move (While I disagreed with it, I understood), Varland was brought up to give the other starters a break (he did that really well), he has been terrible in the majors prior, and he was amazing last night and should leave him with confidence going forward. What would have I liked, Rocco telling Varland you are doing great go out there in the 6th and keep doing what you are doing, I am going to get Sands and Theilbar up in case a situation comes up, but I have faith that you can get us another inning. I will add this whole platoon thing, doesn't seem to be giving us fans hope on the future of some of the younger guys being solid everyday players. (Larnach, Wallner, AK, Julien) How many left handed platoon hitting Left and Right fielders does one team need clogging up the 40 man?
  7. Patient? How long has this front office been here? I get not trading just to trade or giving up top tier assets for rentals. but most of the best players the Twins have, have been acquired though trades, they haven't been great at developing players. (don't get me wrong their have been a few)
  8. Josh WInder (1.98 ERA 65 K's in 54.66 innings) and Matt Canterino (1.83 ERA 50 K's in 34.33 innings) were pretty darn good. Pierson Ohl wasn't too bad 2.69 ERA, less K's 74 in 87 innings, Laweryson was pretty good 1.06 ERA 69 K's in 59.33 innings, Sands was good 2.46 and 96 K's in 80.33. Been a bit longer, but Stephen Gonsalves put up video game numbers in AA, 19-4, 2.59 ERA and 213 K's in 184 innings. He was 8 - 1 with a 1.82 ERA and 89 K's in 74.33 in 2016,
  9. Should the Twins just give up? (and other teams with less talent and payroll?)
  10. I am not a fan, and haven't been since 2019, but I don't think replacing him changes much of what is going on, sadly.
  11. I have the ability to watch the home teams broadcast, and the Yankees announcers said it last night and just about every others announcers have alluded to the pinch hitting and how by the time the end of the game comes around the other team gets to set the the match up. They actually asked it in the form of a question to the Twins, Do the Twins not know the best relief pitchers we (yanks) have are right handed and pinch hitting for the lefites in the 5th and 6th inning sets up the advantage for us?
  12. Planned day off, Rocco said there will be a few of them in the first 10 games or so. Paraphrasing what they showed on the broadcast last night. EDIT - Addition, he also said he would have to talk the doctor/trainer (I think he called the guy by name) is Lewis was even available for the game last night) Which of course IMO was ridiculous to give him and Buxton a day off on the same day. Not because Buxton is good right now, but that means Castro to CF and Farmer to 2B, Miranda to 3B. They could have given Buxton the rest in game 1 and Lewis in game 3. On top of they had first and second with one out with Jeffers the DH up, who has been cold for a bit, would have been a perfect time to pinch hit Lewis, but instead Lewis ends the game in the on deck circle. One more thing I sure hope Lopez is dealing with an injury or something, the Twins can't win with the type of year he is having.
  13. Well Cade Povich is starting for Baltimore today, so it is possible there will be something else to complain about.
  14. Can the Twins afford two of the 5 starters being pitchers that you hope can get you though 5 innings? In SWR's 9 starts only 5 have went 5. I am not saying SWR has pitched bad, but it is a fact that in most of his starts the Twins are asking the bullpen to pitch a lot. Festa has 11 starts in AAA and only 3 times has completed 5 and the most pitches he has had is 86. Paddack for example has completed 5 in 8 of his 11 starts and every start but 1 he has thrown over 82 pitches.
  15. He looks fine, he started quick out of the box, but like every other major league player slowed down when the ball was fielded cleanly, and then slowed down and put his hands up to avoid contact when the ball was thrown a bit wildly. The TV crew has been talking about how the Twins want to be smart and not play 100% all the time to stay healthy and that seemed like he followed that in this situation. Also I agree with Perking and Plouffe about how he should be hitting 1 - 3 in the lineup.
  16. The old guy (I believe crew chief) should retire, he missed both calls at first the night before, and was missing ball/strike calls both ways last night.
  17. The Twins continue to get beat by the Yanks, but learn nothing from them. They gave Volpe 601 plate appearances, let him K 167 times with a 666 OPS and an OPS+ 0f 81, and that experience lead him to have the year he is having this year all while turning 23 just over a month ago. Wallner at 26 has been 353 total plate appearances over three seasons Julien at 25 has 602 over two seasons. AK at 26 has 868 over 4 seasons. Miranda (almost 27) has 790 over 3 seasons. Martin 25 has 83 I understand some of this is injuries, some of it is holding them in the minors longer than most would like. But give one of the guys a job and tell them it is theirs for year and let it play out. This hiding, platooning moving up and down of them is just retarding their progression.
  18. I guess you completely missed the point on developing a viable young starting pitcher. When the Yankees acquired Gil he was 20 and hadn't played in the minor leagues. Ober was a three year college player, Ryan was a 4 year college player and had pitched multiple years in other teams minors, SWR had pitched multiple years in other teams minors but I will give you he was young but also a HIGHLY rated prospect prior to getting to MN. My statement wasn't to take anything away from the Twins for these three pitchers, but to point out the FACT that they haven't developed a pitcher similar to Gil, since Berrios?
  19. I don't think the trade will go down as one the the Twins worst or possibly even a bad trade, If Gabriel Gonzalez works out at all and Topa is decent (at some point) people will quickly forget it cost 10 million dollars. The trade was made because the Twins picked up Polanco's option and thus were forced to trade him. It could go down as one of the worst decisions this front office as made because of none of the players work out the trade was made because they picked up the option, and after that pretty much had to make the trade.
  20. IMO those are all too high of prices to pay a the deadline. If the Twins were willing to overpay, you do it right now and get 100 games out of it. I would trade and overpay for a rental player but not for one that has less than a zero percent chance of re-signing here.
  21. Don't forget they picked up Polanco's 10 million option and flipped it for ..... a prospect?
  22. or maybe the Twins actually develop a young player like that into a viable starting pitcher, until they do, I can only assume Gil wouldn't have been developed here.
  23. Can we get over the Gil trade, he never even played for a Twins minor league team and had pitched all of 65 innings in the Dominican league in three years. Maybe give the Yanks credit for developing an injury prone ball throwing machine into a dominant starting pitcher for now.
  24. Absolutely I watched the whole game and besides the horrible ball call on Judge it seemed like a typical game where neither side really benefited. I believe Royce Lewis will never get out this year or make an error. Also I think last night Miranda proved he is more than capable defensively at first (he does need to work on his foot work)
