  1. I was wrong when I said 3 titles, I should have said two and a wild card (2017,2019,2020). That is the playoffs 3 of 4 years and went into the 5th year highly regarded. (In 2018 they went 78-84 and took 2nd in a bad division) Their big moves were trading for Odo, signing an aging Cruz to basically a one year contract (in February), signed Donaldson (which was big), and traded a highly regarded minor league relief pitcher for Maeda. I would say all of them worked out pretty well, but that is all they did, Wait, sorry that is not all, they traded their best pitcher and are having problems signing their position player. So yes my opinion is they barely did a darn thing, if people want to believe that wasn't a window or they did do a lot that is their opinion.
  2. So in 5 years, they traded for Odo and Maeda, signed Cruz and Donaldson, I stick with my point .
  3. Wasn't the window clearly open when they won 3 division titles? They barely did a darn thing. But hey maybe in 2024 or beyond they will do something. This isn't meant for you, but it is kind of sad that even the fans have gotten into the "wo is me" we are just the Twins and are a mid market team that can't have nice things and are happy with the hope of the next group of prospects.
  4. My guess the only way he starts in the minors is if he is out of sorts in spring training, or they do the unthinkable and go out and get 4 starters in free agency and trades.
  5. I think this this the type of thing the union would absolutely want to weigh in on, if one of the teams decided it was going to do away with "real" starting pitching, they would also have to do it in the minors and thus reduce salary, and the union isn't going to put up with that.
  6. are you saying for the Twins to get to the playoffs, we need better pitchers than those 3? What are the odds of 3 of the Twins pitching prospects end up as good as them let alone better? Combined all three will make less than 24 million next year, with signing Buxton that would still leave plenty of money to fill out the team. Sure maybe the end up with 85 wins next year, but with the two that could still be here, and the prospects living up to expectations they are set up for 2023, and that is when they could sign #1.
  7. If you are a first or second round talent , maybe 3rd(or the parent or the agent) do you really want to sign with a team that basically says for the next 10 years you are going to be a 3 inning pitcher? And what team is going to draft a pitcher in one of those rounds and pay them the slot money to be a part-time pitcher? So basically the team will have said we won't ever go after healthy top end talent, we are going to settle for lesser? (Remember I replied to the comment about 3 sets of 3 inning pitchers) And yes it is bad for baseball to try and remove the star starting pitchers, quite a few of the games I have attended with my son revolve around who the Twins are playing and who is pitching that day. Multiple times we have decided not to go to a game on a bullpen day, because they tend to get long and boring and have went when Berrios or Odo, or a stud on the other team was pitching. I am not saying this year it would be a bad idea I am saying the philosophy is a bad idea, and I can't believe the players union would accept it. I actually think pairing Winder with a Ryan and Ober with Balazovic, would be a great way to build them up. Sign a couple of pitchers, trade for a pitcher, then let the rookies thrive but not asking too much of them for too long.
  8. Are we sure that is what the Rays do? I was looking at the games logs for them the last 3 three years, and their good pitchers, pitch on average more than 5 innings. Now they don't have the finances for a bunch of those good pitchers, but I don't really seem them limiting their good pitchers on some philosophy of more times pitching and less innings per time?
  9. Agreed Arraez isn't helping get anybody from the A's, I am thinking they are going to want something like Larnach, SWR, and lottery ticket young guy.
  10. One of the problems I see with this is drafting pitchers, which agent would ever let their client sign with a team that does this? College Seniors with no other options? This would have been a great thing to do last year towards the end, and maybe this year to get the prospects up and given a chance without putting the pressure on them to go deep into a game. But as a long term strategy is bad for the players, fans and the game of baseball.
  11. Not sure what the number should be, but probably higher than 250 innings (ober, ryan and Dobnak) Maybe Cruz was real money it was 14 with an option for 12, so if he wouldn't have worked out it would have been much, a one year contract is never bad right? (the Twins paid him just over 26 million in his time here.) IMO the Twins FO have straddled the fence since they got here, and that is why they are in the position they are in. I have no interest in giving this FO another rebuild, if they were to clean house an bring another FO in, I could back another rebuild.
  12. Is this what the FO has been doing since it got here? The only real money the FO has really spent is on Donaldson, and now the fans or the owners should be happy with another two years? The real problem has been Falvey was hired at the end of 2016 and they haven't built a pitching staff from within, they currently have a fairly deep of pitching prospects but....
  13. It certainly seems like the time for the Twins FO, to call up OAK, and try to pry a few of those starting pitchers away. Montas FA in 2024, Bassitt and Manaea in 2023, so it seems like it shouldn't cost a ton for Bassitt and Manaea, Montas maybe a bit more. I would be willing to give up bunch of the prospects and/or maybe Laranch for Montas and one of the others.
  14. Hasn't this been the plan for about 40 years, since that 82 team?
  15. I would for Kershaw, something like 3/48, but that probably won't get him. I also would go for Verlander 3/54 but a buyout after two. I want neither for 1 year, and neither for more than 3 years. But maybe I should go with the, we are the Twins we don't deserve good things, we only deserve middle tier players because of money, and that 2022 is just another wasted year in MN for baseball, and maybe if they show something we can go and sign a pitcher the following year, unless that year is another building year then the year after that would be a great time. (Unless there are injuries and the Twins are in selling mode for the next group of promising prospects)
  16. How about the bottom three, that would be $33 million next year, it would be those three with Ober, Ryan, Dobnak, and the prospects for depth. Then go out somehow and make a big trade for a Pitcher, even it if means way over paying.
  17. Did the Rays really go for it? They traded for a 41 year old Cruz who is a free agent at the end of the year, for two 25 year old pitchers that required to be on the 40 next year.
  18. 100% what Mike said, Rosario, Soler, Pederson, and Duvall are not guys I want the FO signing in the offseason, but are all guys I want to the FO to take a chance on around the deadline in a season that they are doing well and in a division that is winnable. in 2019 collectedly the 4 players they acquired hit 126 homers, and in 2020 hit 44. Can anybody imagine the Twins every going out and getting something like this? IMO anybody saying don't go out and get players at the trade deadline because of money is crazy.
  19. Sure, but the article is 3 Potential Twins Breakout Prospects in 2022, if the article was 3 potential minor league players that could figure it out and help the Twins. He would be first on my list. IMO Strotman is barely as prospect anymore, he is 25 and had an ERA in AAA last year of 5.29. Plus in Hendricks example he was pitching in the majors at age 22, 23,24,25, and had 50 major leagues games prior to breaking out with Toronto in 2015. I would love and hope for Strotman to come out of the gate in AAA with an amazing start, and move into the Twins rotation and continue pitching light outs, but that still wouldn't change my mind that he was a prospect that broke out, it would be again IMO a minor league pitcher that finally figured it out.
  20. Is a 25 year old pitcher considered a break out prospect? I hope Strotman turns out great but can a 25 year old in AAA really break out. Steer it seems like he could be a big break out guy, he seems like a guy that could be the next Jose Miranda, super hot start in AA and continue that right into AAA. Sabato, if he can figure out how to make better contact, like in college, he seem like he could really good player, or he ends up like ABW or Palka.
  21. I think the whole premise of the article is wrong, do I as a fan feel spoiled by the twins for the last 20 years, hell no, I feel a lot of things (lucky, deserving, pissed, let down, kicked in the gut, and others) but spoiled isn't one of them. In the first 10 years of the article, us fans weren't spoiled because we had some of the best baseball players on earth, and a couple of the greatest individual years in history, we were deserving for having to put up with that crap in the 90's. Then for 6 years they were terrible again and everybody dreamed of the of the minor league prospects that would soon come up. They came up and did really well, there were not as crazy good as the 2000's teams But IMO besides 2019, 2010, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002 (excluding 2020), for the most part they have been mediocre to bad to terrible since 1993. And as fan and I see this, when a team is doing really well in a season you have to go for it, because that doesn't come along that often for a team like the Twins. As a 50 year old twins fan, I am sure I have never used the words "I have been spoiled by the Twins"
  22. So the Twins should trade for a guy that 4 years from now will make 6 starts? (I know it has been 5 seasons but since there wasn't one for him 2020 , I said 4)
  23. That goes against everything this FO and ownership has been saying since they got here. And IMO if that is plan, they should be fired.
  24. IMO, this would have been a fine plan for some of the last few years, but this FO has said their goal is sustained success and if the pitchers they audition in 2022 don't live up to expectations or are hurt again and they have another year like 2021, what would be the plan for 2023? another audition year, but this time for fielders and pitchers? (it is possible to sign a couple of pitchers and auditions the prospects without giving up on the season) I don't think this FO has luxury of having another year like 2021, rightly so or not it will be looked upon by some (me for one) as they inherited a team with a bunch of talent and when that talented left or aged, they went back to being bottom feeders would look real bad. They should gets lots of credit for the 3 years prior, especially the ODO and Maeda trades.
  25. To be fair there was much more involved in the Betts deal than just trading him, they basically traded him, Price and 48 million for the Dodgers #1 and #3 prospect to get under the Competitive Balance Tax, and the dodgers picked up the Betts's 27 million for 2020. So a similiar trade would be the Twins trading Buxton and Donaldson, picking up a fraction of Donaldson's contract and getting something similiar to what they got for Berrios. Sure that would free up a bunch of money, but would also leaves huge holes to fill. I would also add it seems besides the money, the dodgers have gotten the best out of that trade. IMO the Twins need to sign Buxton, and bring in a right handed bat for LF to alternate with AK, put Kepler in right.
