Sorry 11 pitches in his last 3 games, he went 19 and 20 in his first two.
  2. TwinsDr2021
arg, the one guy I didn't mention, didn't think they would start an inning with him since he has I believe 11 pitches this year.
  3. TwinsDr2021
Or a clean 10 pitch inning, terrible.
  4. TwinsDr2021
who pitches the last 2? Jax hasn't pitched in 2 games, Romero threw 30 pitches 2 days ago, Stashak threw 21 yesterday, Thielbar 15 yesterday, Pagan and Coulombe haven't pitched in a week and Duffey threw 15 two days ago. I think they bring Duran back for the 8th, and Duffey for the 9th or maybe Pagan?
  5. TwinsDr2021
He did give up 3 base runners in those 85 pitches.

My thoughts are if Correa doesn't get hurt, Lewis has no real chance no matter how good he hits in AAA. (Similar to Miranda/Donaldson last year), so if he gets some time in LF, he could be brought up to replace Larnach, AK, Celestino, Garlick. I would rather have Lewis up (if he deserves it) then playing SS in AAA. He can get time there in majors, they could DH Correa a couple of times and when he rests and in blow outs. Between that and his AAA play it should be enough to decide if his future is there.

Lumps like Jeffers, Larnach, AK, Gordon and Celestino are taking? If a couple of Twins were doing well, it would be easy to bring up Miranda and stick him at 1st, but as it is currently going if he struggles then what, back to the minors and Sano gets first again. How does that help, unless they plan to punt this year. Which doesn't seem likely at this point, with trading away a first round pick and spending 35 million on a SS to compete this year.

I tend to disagree with this take, they brought up Ober, Jeffers, Larnach, AK, Gordon, Ryan, Rooker, Jax, Moran, Celestino, Rortvedt, Colina, Poppen, Alcala just in the last year or two. It is just that most everybody they have brought up hasn't been all that good or healthy in AK case, except Ryan, and Ober was decent/good and showed promise but wasn't allowed or couldn't go out and pitch 5,6,7 innings a time so he wasn't they type of guy that when it was his turn could stop a losing streak or save a bullpen or what not. They have been slow with some of the star pitching prospects but they have all been hurt or not that great in the minors as well. Miranda is the only real prospect in my mind that could/should (last August for sure)be looked at as not being brought up, and my argument has always been it is tough to bring up a prospect that might struggle when the rest of the team is already struggling. My thought are Lewis should be splitting time between left and SS in AAA and if he stays hot, should be up by Mid May, than they could move Martin to AAA and do the same with him.

As stated above I used Archer as an example of bad decisions/planning by the Twins, not innings pitched or pitch count. You are running cover by comparing things other than pitch count which is what I started at, if you actually believe the stats you put up mean the Twins are doing it the right way or the same way, or whatever it is being called, that totally ignores that the Twins starters are doing that while pitching less pitches, Bundy last time out 71 pitches a jump of 4 from the last time out, Ryan 82 which was a jump of 12, Ober 70 which was actually of drop of 12. I don't care about Archer pitch count because of signing late, injury, short spring training, Covid, blah blah blah. This thread was about Bullpen usage and I have been saying Rocco is terrible and using examples of not being prepared for a piggy back, removing a pitcher that is breezy though a game with 70 pitches to bring in a inferior pitcher, Or just flat out missing their starting pitcher is tired and bringing them back out only to pitch a 1/3 of an inning and get in trouble. I can't stand Rocco and I know this jades my opinion, but I have been saying the same thing about him going back to 2019.
  10. TwinsDr2021
Two starts zero piggy backs so far and he pitched 4 a 4 1/3.
  11. TwinsDr2021
With my math he was at 58 after 4, So basically he was maxed out around 60, Which means the Twins should have had a piggy back setup for him, and they didn't. That isn't on Archer, that is on Rocco, and Johnson.
  12. TwinsDr2021
To clarify, my comments were not pointed at Archer, just using him as an example or them making bad decision. It was pointed directly at the Twins MGMT. I assume Archer gave his all and it seemed to surprise the Twins he was done a bit prior to 70 pitches. And their plan was what for a pitcher that needs to be pulled after 70 pitches? My point about posting pitch counts of other teams is that Ryan, Ober, Bundy all have been limited while other teams have been letting pitchers pitch, and Twins fans run cover for them.
  13. TwinsDr2021
    Kershaw was perfect though 7, quite a bit different than Archer gassed after 4 and high sixties in pitches. Fried 7 -93 Buehler 5 - 79 Bumgarner 5 - 83 Josiah gray (who is this guy) - 5.1 - 87 Cobb - terrible in the 5 around 50 pitches Megill - 6 -87 Cole Terrible, Det bullpen game Wainwrigth 5.2 - 92 Luzardo - 4.1 - 88 Kikuchi -5 91 Eovaldi - 4.1 -95 Brubaker - 5 - 94 Burnes - 7 - 107 Rays/Cubs bullpen and terrible start Sandoval - 4- 85 Valdez - 4.1 - 80 Gibson - 6- 90 Freeland - 5 - 87 Scherzer - 7-102, Web 3.2 -75 Ellis 4.1 -62 zero runs (Hey Baltimore has got the idea) Irvin - 5 - 95 Sanmartin - 5.1 - 86 Musgrove - 6.1 -94 Gray 5 - 77 (4 runs), Ray 6 - 85 That is the starters from yesterday and Twins fan are still using short spring training and cold weather, its gross!
  14. TwinsDr2021
Well from what I hear Archer was gassed after 4, so the Twins being completely caught off guard by this is a failure on their part. The plan should have been Archer for 4 and another guy for 3 (who? I don't know but isn't that their job?)
  15. TwinsDr2021
Shouldn't they have seen that in 4th? and if he is going to be gassed at less than 75 pitches, is the starting rotation really the place for him?
  16. TwinsDr2021
If the Twins are not bombing home runs all over the place, Rocco pretty much fails as a manager, IMO. for full disclosure I didn't see the game last night, but my goodness Archer is a 33 year old man with over 1200 MLB innings and Rocco doesn't have the confidence in him to pitch to a rookie hitting around .150? If that is the kind of confidence you have in your starter you might as well tell him sorry Chris, but your now a bullpen guy because unless if you are absolutely perfect after the third inning I am going to pull you from the game.
  17. TwinsDr2021
    Allow a 25 year old to pitch between 90 - 115 pitches.
  18. TwinsDr2021
Completely agree with all this, which is why I only said I didn't agree with #2, because there were multiple paths of keeping both.
  19. TwinsDr2021
And (not sure if this is true or not) Rocco seems to pick the wrong relievers to bring him.
  20. TwinsDr2021
Ober was pitching what I call a unicorn game, less than 12 pitches per inning and the Twins still wouldn't let him go out in the 7th. If he takes 12-18 pitches in the 7th that still leaves him at 82-88 for the game, is that too many pitches for somebody that has given up 4 base runs in 6 innings? Doesn't this seem like the perfect type of game to see how he does in the 7th? But instead they turn to the game over to inferior pitchers and get blown out, now I get the Twins offense was horrible and with that had no chance of winning, but isn't there a time and place to see if you starting pitcher has the ability to pitch in the 7th? There is a decent enough chance they will let him go 80 pitches in less innings in his next start. This game is a bit different than Ryan on Friday, because Ryan was already at 82 pitches, and if he is brought back he is likely to end up very close to 100 and the expectation is Duran might be an upgrade on him at this point.
  21. TwinsDr2021
Not sure I agree with number two, per spotrac the twins current payroll is sitting at 132.6 million. if you remove Urshela (6.5), Sanchez(7.5), and Gray (10.6) that comes to 24.9. Donaldson (23), and Garver (3.35) and , so the twins could have signed Correa and still had about the same payroll if they wouldn't have traded for Gray.. So IMO you could say the twins wouldn't have been able to trade for Gray without getting rid of Donaldson or you could say they turned Donaldson and Garver into Urshela, Sanchez, and Gray, but tying the Correa signing to Donaldson is Twins fans running cover for the FO and owners. I am not arguing it was the right or wrong move, everybody can have their own opinion on that, I am saying their was a path to signing Correa that didn't include trading Donaldson and left the twins in about the same spot (1.5) payroll.
  22. TwinsDr2021
And they traded two pitchers on the 40 for 3 months of Nelson Cruz. Cleaning theirs up a bit and hindering the Twins. Ryan being as good as he has been has helped, but having a 25 year old holding down a 40 man spot that really never has been a great minor league pitcher hasn't helped the Twins.
  23. TwinsDr2021
Remind me again who signed Donaldson to a contract that would need to be cleared after two years?
  24. TwinsDr2021
Does Ryan come out for the 6th?
  25. TwinsDr2021
100% agree it isn't on easy, but with some practice is it really harder than trying to take a full all out swing to hit (with 6 guys and a pitcher on the right side of the field)? IMO the hitters don't actually have to be that successful doing it, they just have to show the other team they are willing. In the Kepler scenario above the Twins scored zero runs, but if tried to bunt and failed they still score zero runs but the other team(s) have to take note he will try and if that brings over the fielders even a little bit, that should help when they are hitting away. Kepler is 3 for 18 so his current approach hasn't worked, give it a try, Kirby used to bunt when he was in a slump to help him get out of it, I remember back in the day Hrbek trying the bunt down the third base line a couple of times a year. I will add trying to inside out a pitch or go the other way is IMO way more difficult than bunting and I wouldn't want a batter trying without really practicing it.
