I would too, and it's not especially close. Kirilloff seems a little high, but there aren't clear alternatives. I'd go Javier #4, Mejia #5, the Kirilloff #6, but that's a small quibble. After #6, the system takes a clear step down.

Article: We Can Rebuild It: Creative Bullpen Fixes
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They don't have to decide until the all star break at the earliest. Doesn't mean they can't still cycle through some young arms. I also chuckle at the suggestion they can sell someone high, like we have some insight into Santiago that isn't obvious to every other team. I would prepare yourself for a half assed deadline. Doubt they sell much (if anything), and if they buy it will be a small move or two, backend starters or a fill in bullpen piece.- 137 replies

Exactly. We are good at saying who is bad, less good at saying he the replacement would be. I'm sure the front office would prefer to put Gibson back in the minors.- 137 replies

If they draft Wright, there's a decent chance he'd be up by late next season too. A nice little second wave to back up the one that is emerging this year.

Gonsalves continues to impress, working his way to more mid-rotation than backend. Twins could certainly use that. If he stays healthy I would give him a pretty good shot to make his debut by mid-August.

You don't need your entire hand to count the number of guys in the minors that profile as a 1 or 2 at the moment. It's not all that surprising that the Twins lack one.

It's starting. I wouldn't say one more outing away, but a front office isn't going to bring multiple relievers up with no experience at the same time. But Rosario shows the process is starting, probably because he was on the 40 man.

I would be surprised if it did last that long. Bullpen is already back to rested. Wouldn't anticipate a series with the Angels to crush it that bad, barring another 15 inning game.- 33 replies

Article: Part 3: Seth's Midseason Top 40 Prospects (16-20)
drjim replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The difference to me is that the draft after Stewart really hasn't been that good. It was a worthwhile risk. I think with Greene there is a great option in Wright that they would pass on.- 18 replies

I'm certainly not opposed to giving him a try considering the current dumpster fire residing out there. I also agree with you, it would be a great thing if he had a career like Bradford or Neshek.- 56 replies

Article: Eight Weeks In: Twins Trends And Tidbits
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One reason a guy like him gets "slowtracked" is the org usually wants him to go through the league a couple times and have multiple cracks at him to make sure the production is legit and not just a product of deception. He was also hurt late last year, might have slowed his schedule a little.- 56 replies

Article: Eight Weeks In: Twins Trends And Tidbits
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is a good word. The front office screwed up in the offseason and went the cheap route instead of trying to add talent. I'm skeptical of the value of re-litigating that over and over again.- 56 replies

Article: Eight Weeks In: Twins Trends And Tidbits
drjim replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not sure how much of this is true. Pitchers got hurt a lot in previous generations, we just remember the ones that didn't. Previous generations didn't have TJ or TOS, they just had bum shoulders and elbows, and either didn't pitch again or became junkballers. Another difference between today and older generations of baseball, is that pitchers are max effort today, when previously they would coast more during the game. Coasting doesn't work anymore, hitters are just so much better, at all positions. While there is nothing magical about 100 pitches, there is some pretty solid work on what happens after 115-120 and the likelihood of injury following that many pitches. There is also great work on diminishing effectiveness of a pitcher each time through the order. Not all pitchers are the same, obviously, but these are pretty accepted frameworks from which to operate.- 56 replies

Most definitely, it lacks top end talent. Might be deeper in C+ level guys though. I would gladly trade depth for top end guys.

I could see them doing it if they decide to extend Dozier. But wouldn't happen to the offseason.

I think he is starting to exceed draft day projections/grades. He has performed enough that his last name no longer matters to me. He's not untouchable by any means, but it is now pretty clear to me that he has established enough to be clear what value the Twins are giving up, a future solid regular, probably at SS.

Article: Is Ervin Santana An Ace?
drjim replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's also pitched as part of a 4 man rotation for a while. He might pull off 35 starts, 230-235 ip. Might not be an ace, but that's a horse.- 55 replies

Article: Will Hunter Greene Haunt The Twins?
drjim replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Also, should add, I'm not on Wright over Greene because he's "safer" but because he's a really good prospect. He has a pretty good floor (as much as pitchers can) but he also has plenty of upside. He has the ingredients to be an ace. -

Indeed there is no magic formula. All types bust all the time. I'm pretty heavy Wright, but would find Greene acceptable.
