  1. This is one way I think national prospect guys do a slight disservice. They can identify a ceiling well but don't do the best at communicating risk and probability. Some of that is certaonly folded into prospect rankings.
  2. Wright seems to be on track to break in next year.
  3. I don't know if I agree. There shouldn't be a problem running him out there if he pitches on full rest and they monitor pitch counts. Does seem he shut it down to protect from injury.
  4. All right, I'll buy it. But I still think there is risk in shutting down, with other guys passing you. Helped him that McKay faded.
  5. Hicks for Lee was a nice story, but not a reality. Ms were never doing that.
  6. You had me until the Gordon reference. He's legit. Anyone else in the system could be traded (in the right deal) without too much worry.
  7. I don't think they've changed their opinion on Greene as much as they've moved on to someone else. I thought that was relatively clear. If Greene's camp didn't think so, I doubt they'd bother with a bullpen. Trying to recoup some of the money they likely cost themselves shutting it down early.
  8. Good stuff. Don't think there is a meaningful trade to be had for a month, but if they can hang around, which would involve a couple things to break their way, there will be some upgrades available that won't crush the farm system. The AL, perhaps outside Houston, really isn't that good.
  9. He shut it down, at least one guy has passed him. Being idle allows others to look better and increases his own critiques. If he wasn't thinking this he wouldn't bother with a bullpen. Bully on Wright for being awesome, but if Greene was still pitching and flashing he might have staved off Wright.
  10. Seems at least one guy has passed him, perhaps more. Wright has made himself a couple mil.
  11. I know there are other factors and wouldn't play this way exactly, but there is over a $1mil difference between Twins and Padres.
  12. Looking like shutting it down might have cost him some money.
  13. It would probably be a good sign if we see the next couple of Burdi outings with him coming in with people on base. Could mean they are ramping him up for a call up. Seems if he wants to get the call soon he'll need to shut down inherited runners from scoring.
  14. I think merely counting innings is a mistake, there is also the time with coaches, executing a plan, all of that. A team will go into spring with a plan a, but it strikes me as unlikely they decided before camp that Mejia would get first crack if one of the starters went down. He earned the spot. If Berrios was there the whole time he could have done the same.
  15. Perhaps, but the command difference between this year and last year is huge. Maybe the front office was on to something.
  16. That was the necessary reason. Also clearly stated reasons by the front office were they wanted him to tighten command and also dominate for a stretch following his brutal debut.
  17. Of course they go through medicals/physicals/MRIs/etc, but they aren't black and white, especially for a pitcher.
  18. I would have liked him up a little earlier, but strongly believe having him in the rotation on opening day would have set him up for failure. I'm more accepting of a conservative route over aggression here, considering his flop last year.
  19. I think all your points answer themselves. It's not basically the same front office, Santiago and Berrios have significantly different experience which matters a ton, and Mejia got the call because he was there all spring and did what he had to do. I imagine Berrios would have had a decent shot to make the opening day rotation once May went down if he had been there all spring and took care of business. He sealed his own fate. Seems to have worked out though.
  20. Good things are starting to happen with pticher health and performance. System could look much better in a couple weeks.
  21. Santiago had little to do with Berrios, he was in his 7th year, not trying to establish himself after a terrible debut. The Twins front office rightly gave the veteran more trust in preparation.
  22. And that he was terrible in the bigs the year before. It's really not unreasonable for the front office to want to get a good look at him and make sure he was in a position to succeed. They might have waited too long, but opening day was unrealistic.
  23. There was no reason the Twins should have forced him into the opening day rotation. Good move by the front office.
  24. And the way it ended up shaking out with lack of need on both ends of the start, even the Tepesch start was somewhat defensible, keeping everyone else on a regular schedule. Santana, Santiago and Hughes weren't going to skip a start for Berrios this early, and Gibson after 6 starts is a pretty quick hook.
  25. A veteran bat with minimal defensive value is one of the cheapest assets available at the deadline, so that's nice.
