  1. I, for one, appreciate the burden you're willing to bear for the good of the board. It's a lonely island to say Buxton is struggling right now.
  2. I wouldn't sleep on Kintzler either.
  3. He had a really good deadline looking back. This and Nunez trade were solid, and the two other pieces he didn't move (Santana and Kintzler) have increased in value.
  4. I would look at this way, I think Santana has a decent chance of being good through his contract. While the Twins likely aren't making the playoffs this year, I think they can make another move in 18 and 19. If I'm going to move Santana I want something that will clearly build towards that. Otherwise I'd roll with Santana. Maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but I also don't see a huge need to move him, so I want it to be worthwhile. Maybe that package isn't there.
  5. Good. De Leon isn't making it through the season. Would have been a bad trade for the Twins.
  6. The offer you suggested was a better return than Nunez. And I think people underestimate what Nunez was worth last year. For me, I'm most interested in the main piece.
  7. OK. So what? They have a catcher and an acceptable backup right now, and now with Garver a good third catcher with three years of options. If they remove those in front of him they lose that depth and its not clear there would be an upgrade. What's the hurry? Garver's production and likelihood that he can be at least a competent C puts the org in a good spot.
  8. What are you talking about? Being a solid third catcher with options provides lots of organizational value.
  9. Of course you trade pending free agents whe you can't win. Every team does that.
  10. He's not old for a catcher on the verge. He's about where he should be. No reason to come up and play once a week. I'd call him up for an injury, if Gimenez is released/traded, or in September.
  11. 3 of the 4 Yankee trades were free agents. Twins should look to do that (Santiago, Kintzler). 1.5 years plus option of Santana is a different calculation.
  12. I would do that trade. I'm skeptical it would be on the table.
  13. No reason for Garver yet, but would be nice to try one of the big corner bats of Vargas/Palka/Paulsen.
  14. I would trade him for a Berrios type too. Don't think that will be on the table. Gonsalves, Romero, Mejia are the back end top 100 guys that you might be able to get. Not sure if I would pull the trigger if that is the headliner.
  15. That type of concern is vastly overstated for starting pitchers, there is always demand. Quintana and Darvish are different assets with different expectations.
  16. There will certainly be a market, they won't have trouble trading him. I'm just not as confident it will be an package that will be all that impressive. If the Twins are trending upwards, if not exactly playoff bound this year, might just make sense to keep him for the rest of his contract.
  17. Understanding that this won't continue for Santana, but perhaps thinking he is a little bit better than last year, I'm curious what people think they'd receive for Santana. I understand the desire to trade him if you don't think this is a playoff team (I would agree), but I think the return will be a little bit disappointing.
  18. I fail to see how his ability will change. Definitely locked into this.
  19. It's one series, but Kepler is trending the right way. Might need to revise the predictions upward.
  20. I generally agree with all of this as the likely outcome, but still early to say "he'll be fine". There is a way too high probability that he just never figures out his contact issues. But I'm still very high on him, think we see multiple 7-8 WAR seasons (but not this year).
  21. I don't see how this works as he moves up the ladder, but he has supressed hits long enough that it's probably not a fluke. Here's to being an anomaly.
  22. Good call. Makes me think back to how revolutionary this song was when it came out.
