  1. I can say with a straight face I don't care either way. Neither adds more than the other.
  2. Yes. Roster crunch excuse is pathetic. Get an eraser, we can make some space.
  3. And I'm not really making an excuse for the roster. It's really disappointing.
  4. Protect starting pitchers that are question marks right now. I think when Santiago stretches out and they see what they have with Hughes/Mejia/Berrios/Duffey/Haley/others they can adjust the pitching staff and hopefully go down with 12.
  5. I would agree they have much bigger issues to solve. I'm sure they agree. And Meyer has been brutal right? What would he solve?
  6. I suspect Duffey piggybacks on Hughes (or Mejia) to start the season. While I think he would be a good reliever, I hope they keep him stretched out before they change his role.
  7. It's opening day. It'll change fast. Their last day moves actually made them younger than expected. They'll still be around the 5th youngest roster on opening day. You might need some new material.
  8. They might keep the coveted top waiver claim spot all season!
  9. I'm just going by media reports. I didn't mind giving Santana another shot as the 4th bench guy, but keeping him on this roster seems ill advised.
  10. I'll take Option A. Wouldn't be stunned with a waiver claim tho.
  11. Sure, sometimes situations out of their control prevent players from making a roster. Contracts, service time, roster spots, roster makeup play a factor. I never suggested otherwise. But that wasn't the case with Chargois. Not even a little bit. It was his spot.
  12. No chance it's just him. The front office knows the pitching staff they gave him.
  13. Looks like Gimenez at 1b. I think 13 pitches represents the question marks in the rotation. 3 guys they are very uncertain of out of the chute.
  14. I thought Park would make it, but I'm not all that high on Park of Vargas, so I can live with Grossman as the primary DH out of the gate. I bet we see a decent chunk of Sano at DH too. Kepler is probably the backup 1b right?
  15. I agree Duffey would do well in the pen, but I suspect he is there as a ready replacement for Hughes. As bad as the bullpen is, rotation is still the main problem, right? Santana and Gibson should be able to get some innings, but Santiago is not exactly stretched out, Hughes is a big question mark and Mejia is a complete wildcard. It could come around, but could be very dicey out of the gate.
  16. I think you undersell Santana a little relative to Tonkin here (but who cares really), but otherwise I'm with you on this. Shouldn't have been too hard to add players in the offseason that would have been an upgrade. I don't have much good to say about the offseason with this as the end result. The Twins could unexpectedly over perform in the lineup and rotation and still have the bullpen sink any chance.
  17. Sounds about right. Guys with no options left given another chance because they might have some upside and there isn't a clear better alternative. Also a really good chance neither is on the roster by the end of the year.
  18. It's bad. My main complaint is they really could have aimed higher with their FA acquisition. Take someone with an upside with the promise of closing opportunities (ahem, Holland or Feliz or Casilla or Romo, etc). I think entering with a FA closer and setup of Pressly, Rogers, Kintzler would look better. Going to be an interesting year of lots of guys getting a crack at different roles.
  19. It's not like there's been a shortage of Santana conversation in the past couple of months and my answer hasn't changed. I'm not going to defend his performance the last two years, it's bad, and I know the defensive metrics hate him. But he makes the minimum, can backfill at a couple of positions, has a couple of really good tools, (briefly) flashed some skills, and can ultimately be cut for little cost. I don't mind giving him one more shot at the roster, he's not exactly blocking anyone worthwhile. If there was a player on another team like him that got cut, I would be ok if the Twins to pick him up and gave him a look. If the coaches want another crack at him, bully on them.
  20. I support keeping Danny Santana. Good move.
