  1. I think an argument can be made that Jones is better than Griffey. My quick impression is that Griffey had the better peak and was the more dynamic player, but Jones was on the really good tier for longer.
  2. I'd want 3 to 6 additional years, but I'd probably wait another year before inking that deal.
  3. I agree with this. For me, unique players like Vlad earn extra HOF credit in my mind relative to a more straightforward data analysis.
  4. Probably right. I looked again and Posada wasn't as good as I thought. And agree on Edmonds.
  5. 3 in a year is plenty. Voters did a fine job. To me Posada dropping off is the biggest injustice.
  6. I thought it was a very interesting way to look at it. Every new GM will face a unique situation so nothing is perfectly replicable, but a little caution and conservatism when taking over a new and unfamiliar organization seems prudent. We could have gotten AJ Preller. Friedman to Dodgers, Preller to Padres, Epstein to Cubs, Stearns to Brewers, Klentak to Phils, Shapiro to Jays, Dipoto to Ms, Luhnow to Astros strike me as the most recent relevant comparisons.
  7. Inflation risk is my main concern.
  8. Maybe, but I'd be a little more charitable to the Dodgers. I think they see him as a piece that is nice to have, but does lack an elite ceiling and is expendable within the organization. And they do have to give something up to get someone as quality as Dozier. I like De Leon, think he is an acceptable centerpiece, but is not enough on his own.
  9. Interestingly enough, Buehler is not on BA's Top 10, but I would put him 4th on my personal want list (Bellinger - De Leon - Alvarez) in a trade.
  10. I think this is true, but it is probably a less than 50% chance De Leon is a #3 quality for 6 years. Like any pitcher there is such a high probability of injury or just flaming out (though, to be fair, some chance that he is a really good #2). On the other hand, it is a near 100% chance that Dozier is a good to really good to near elite 2b for those 2 years. That would be a tough wager. De Leon probably wouldn't make 20 starts.
  11. This makes sense to me too.
  12. I think there is a season or two lag on the awarding of competitive balance picks.
  13. I would even turn it around and say there is a good chance he's a positive clubhouse presence for some of our young position players.
  14. Is it a sure thing that Grossman will be a disaster in the field this season? He was bad last year for sure, but previous years he seemed at least passable. Not impossible he can be a functioning LF in a part time role.
  15. Decrease his walk rate and get off to a strong start. Also ease in his starts and innings for the year. Interested in him finishing strong in September and being ready to go Day 1 in 2018 too. But I'm also open to him breaking camp in the bigs, just shouldn't be Plan A
  16. I agree with the Hughes and May concerns, which is why I would certainly endorse signing another starter.
  17. This gets rehashed again and again, but Berrios, Mejia and (potentially) De Leon have done nothing to be given a spot in the opening day rotation, no matter what the Twins record was last year. It is a good thing they are not Plan A. Injuries happen, May and Hughes can go the bullpen, spring training trades can easily happen. If those young guys come out and earn it they'll get their opportunity.
  18. If they trade Dozier I would sign a good glove SS, otherwise leave bats alone. Maybe some minor league depth. Still would sign a closer and perhaps another RP if someone slips through. Sign another starter that is more a flyer type. Hold on to ESan, if he stays healthy his value will be higher at the deadline. Especially if they trade Dozier, there should be enough options to work through over the course of the season.
  19. The other question is are we sure this last season was a significant outlier for Dozier? Very possible he's steadily built to this and could remain high for the next 2-3 years.
  20. I think he'll be a fine coach. I still want to stab myself when I listen to him speak for more than 5 minutes. The other benefit is he's taking over a program in decent shape. Needs to supplement more than overhaul.
  21. Finally listened to as much as I could handle after reading the quotes. It was worse than I could have possibly imagined.
