    Or at least done a mix - the rotation after 2012 was an atrocity, so someone like Correia I can live with, but would have been nice to mix another upside play or two in addition to Pelfrey. And the relievers were pretty uninspiring. They probably should have flipped Perkins and Burton. On the plus side they did keep a quality rule 5 guy in Pressly and gave some prospects their first crack at the bigs. But they should have been able to sign a few more high risk/upside flyers.

    A key point that year was that it was the worst pitching fa class of the last decade or so, so it is not as easy as just saying insert player x there. I would like to have seen more aggression on one hand, but on the other, that was a bad year to do it for reasons outside the Twins control.

    My other complaint, in addition to these three, is I think they could have been more aggressive in signing the one year flyers with risk that are mentioned in the article - they would burn a significant amount of money doing this, but they would also potentially grab someone who performs that they could flip for prospects. I would have especially done this with relievers and backend starters. They weren't exactly floating in arms from 12-14.

    I think that was the only time he was forced to trade someone due to an ownership demand of cutting payroll.

    I agree. And I think you can look at the end of his season in Rochester and have some cautious optimism for this year.

    I think this would be less hard if there 5 other guys that were performing fine (if not better), which I anticipate there will be.

    This would be my 25 too at the moment, though I think Pressly has a really good chance to break camp over Tonkin or someone else. Not likely those 12 pitchers all make it through spring training healthy anyways.

    I might be picking nits, you are probably talking a standard deviation confidence range or the like, but floor does get thrown around way too optimistically for pitchers.

    I agree that is the highest likelihood outcome for Jay if he doesn't become a starter, but his floor not pitching in the bigs, or maybe being an up and down type guy. Stewart has a much more likely floor of never pitching in the bigs.

    While this is true, prospect lists have gotten much, much better in the last 10, and especially 5 years. The draft too. I just don't think bringing up examples from 25 years ago is all that meaningful anymore. And with Delmon the lists did adjust somewhat in time.

    The article I read was that an interpreter is now required for media interviews. I imagine every team had some sort of internal system.

    I think it is hard to separate service time and team control when considering a trade. I would put Arcia clearly 4th, and the other three could probably go in any order. Dickerson, even with inflated home numbers, probably has most bat now, Rosario has the all around game, and Kepler has the upside. I agree with your last point that a trade is probably in order, but I am really hesitant to trade 6 years of control of a good young player for 2 years of a reliever. I don't value relievers that highly. If I'm trading Rosario or Kepler, I want a comparably young solid starter, or a couple of years of a really good starter or maybe a (half) year of an elite starter if that is putting the team over the top (and same for other everyday positions). A reliever doesn't do that, perhaps moreso in the case of McGee because he still has elbow questions.

    Agree on that. He must have really messed up medicals.

    I would certainly drop Strong for Friedrich. If Strong clears it gives the Twins yet another arm to evaluate.

    I thought Polanco might make more sense, not sure if that was considered from either end.

    Two years of a reliever with some elbow questions for four years of an everyday guy with foot problems. I'll bet on everyday guy and years. I imagine it would have taken Kepler.

    Quite confident they checked in, not sure if it progressed much, and glad it didn't - I wouldn't want them to match that package. Good trade for the Rays.

    Unless they don't trust McGee's medicals, I'm pretty sure the Twins would have traded Arcia for him. If I'm the Rays I would rather have Dickerson in a heartbeat. How's that for a narrative?
