  1. I think John Sickels is on the extend Sano now bandwagon: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/8/22/9189335/miguel-sano-superstar
  2. They should make sure to sign him before Harper hits the market. I think he'll be the deal that really shifts the high end. Probably over $500 mil.
  3. Meyer was hurt last year. And the golden age of pitchers you reference is as much myth as reality, many more injuries and shorter careers. We remember the few and forget the many. All that doesn't mean Berrios doesn't shouldn't be up.
  4. Other than no bullpen guys (of consequence)* moved until the week before the deadline. There was no benefit to delaying the acquisitions, but no opportunity either. I think they were a bullpen arm acquisition short at the deadline but to say they should have acquired a bullpen guy in May or June doesn't take into account how the trade market works. *The best guy traded was David Carpenter - really no better than Blaine Boyer.
  5. Exactly, he's a pitcher. No need to play service time games when he is basically ready and the team is trying to win. If he's good enough the Twins can pop him for an extension well before service time becomes an issue. Looking back at the season I think the failure to call up Berrios and the resulting May fiasco will be the biggest and most inexplicable mistake the front office made. Really no reason for any of it.
  6. I agree that it does seem strange they could not have gotten another cheap reliever in the last year of his deal at the deadline. I even think Jepsen and Cotts, while not exactly awe inspiring, would have been an acceptable deadline. If they would have mixed that in with avoiding the May fiasco and just calling up Berrios at the time, the team would be in much better position, going for it with the kids, and still held the prospects for the real push that should happen over the next 2-3 years. Took longer to get there than it should have over the past 3 weeks, but they are more or less where they should be (minus Berrios) for the stretch. Worst case the young guys get some experience they can build on.
  7. Also false. You did nothing but repeat what was generally the scouting consensus about his likely outcome. People thought it was worthwhile to give him as much a chance to stay at ss for both value and need reasons. You would think people can disagree without feeling like some martyr. He was always a legit prospect even if he didn't stay at ss. Moving to 2b now probably sets up an offseason trade. Maybe they can get a c or sp.
  8. Absolutely. A continued collapse would stain this a little but this year will be seen as the beginning of the turnaround when people look back in a couple of years.
  9. I am not among the "some" referenced. It is not a lack of opportunity keeping those guys down
  10. Maybe, but only if all OF and DH spots are locked up. I don't exactly buy that yet.
  11. Huge problem, not disputing that. But cutting him would not exactly solve it. At least any time soon. I do think he could take a more limited role as soon as this September and maybe limiting games could make him more productive.
  12. I'm more interested in dealing with Mauer when there is a clear replacement. He's not a zero, just obviously not worth his contract.
  13. To me, "protecting" is prudent action to put Buxton in a position to maximize his success. Both in the immediate and the long term.
  14. Or confirms his suspicion that they shouldn't be taken all that seriously. I predict Hunter spends approximately 0 seconds of his daily life worried about his WAR.
  15. And Cubs fans hate Castro right now, so pretty much the exact opposite on that account.
  16. The recall of Mauer and Gibson strike me as different transactions/situations. So, hypothetically, if Meyer blows out his arm next appearance in Rochester, he is put on the AAA dl and then is activated in the offseason and spends the entire season on the mlb dl? Assuming they don't remove him from the 40 man? I don't know the rules well enough on this specific transaction, but I also think it is 99.9% a moot point for a position player.
  17. Are you sure, I thought guys injured while optioned stay on milb injury lists. If someone is injured in spring training before being optioned, they would remain on the mlb disabled list, which is why the 40 man guys who aren't going to make the 25 man get moved out so quickly.
  18. Robinson is such a red herring in discussing Buxton. Teams aren't going to bring elite prospects up that aren't fully developed to play part time because they are better than 4th ofs (before September). This is player development 101. Even an incompetent org like the Twins can figure that out. People do understand how teams build depth with prospects and don't have them up in the bigs to play part time roles right? There is a reason that veteran players or low ceiling guys take bench spots for most of the year.
  19. You mean other than the 7 weeks he just spent not playing baseball? The fact he has serious injury concerns? Or the fact he struggled mightily his first go around? Do you want the guy to have the best chance to succeed?
  20. So you cite a backup of, a catcher with no alternative and messes that don't have a selected players locked in as the comps? I can't take that seriously.
  21. You acknowledge no difference between keeping up a struggling player and not recalling one?
  22. I think he has been a little reckless in his play and it cost him. I think all players should have to earn their spots, at least until they have established some track record.
