  1. He'll also k alot, sometimes in big spots. But he'll hit bombs. And the other elite prospects are doing well but they certainly have ups and downs. Don't put on Sano an unrealistic interpretation of what other prospects have done either.
  2. There is some exempted amount of a signing (and a certain number of signings for that amount) that does not count against the cap but don't remember the amount. Might be less than $250k.
  3. Because he asked a question of why people weren't posting more? So I answered the question. I have great expectations for Sano too, not sure where you are getting the thought people are expecting him to be bad. He is the one guy I expect to come out raking from the system.
  4. They can still sign multiple $250k guys that don't count against the cap right? Maybe they figured the other big ticket guys were gobbled up by the handful of teams blowing past their budget and went big on the guy they wanted. Perhaps they have other lesser guys (bigger than $250k) in mind if they can acquire some cap room - Kiley said Philly and Atlanta are trying to do the same thing. If I want to be really optimistic, maybe this is part of a package deal to get guys lined up for next year.
  5. The mistake was calling him back up. He wasn't ready but the team was desperate for a body. Now he'll get his time, hopefully get his stuff together and have a chance to return.
  6. Indeed they do. Kepler is great right where he is doing what he is doing. Also - Arcia and Hicks are ahead of him and will get a crack again, plus Buxton will return at some point. It would take a lot of injuries for Kepler to even get a September callup.
  7. Why put Plouffe in the OF instead of Sano. Make both positions worse?
  8. Funny how that works when there elite talent to move. As expected.
  9. Unless he really collapses at the plate and looks completely lost (which I doubt), he's up for the long haul either way. The team could have gone a couple of ways with this callup (including not demoting Vargas) and chose him. This isn't an injury replacement, this isn't desperation and this isn't a September cup of coffee. This means they deem him ready and elite prospects generally don't go the yo-yo treatment that more marginal prospects receive (with my one caveat).
  10. I think we can all agree, without hesitation, that this is true.
  11. I curious what the 5th year would have cost, but I'm even happy the Twins didn't go crazy too. Seems like a great contract all around.
  12. I'm especially skeptical of an opinion that combines the statement that Polanco is ready with the desire to have Buxton go back to AAA. Putting these guys in the majors is fine if you are willing to live with the growing pains. And to put them all in at the same time really makes the team susceptible to stretches of bad at bats. Stagger them a little - starting with Sano.
  13. And the Twins aren't concerned about Duffey either. The Twins are going to do right for Berrios, as they have so far. He'll get his shot when he is ready. I would say his biggest thing is he needs to build up innings.
  14. I'll put it this way, if the Twins needed an emergency (or 2-3) tomorrow from the minors it would be Duffey, not Berrios. And rightfully so.
  15. While true, Duffey might have a more immediate future in the bigs. Why hold that against Duffey?
  16. Do you really think these corner OF/IF guys on the farm are actually going to net you a c or ss? Sano maybe, Kepler with some other pieces, but no one else.
  17. Just like basically any other decent catcher that people keep coming back to.
  18. A charge and expectation this vague leaves plenty of opportunity to be critical no matter what they do. I would personally add a bullpen arm and that's about it. Maybe a corner of/dh rental if all the young guys flop (and probably still not if the cost is more than money). A ss or c is pie in the sky based on cost and risk/reward.
  19. Very likely, can't say I looked at him very deeply when I was responding to that hypothetical. But I would keep the bigger point that the Cubs would flip Russell for Dozier and I would trade Sano for an above average SS in their prime with 4 years of control. I don't think the Twins are trading Dozier and I'm skeptical that Polanco can stick at SS. Certainly worth taking the time to figure that out though. And if not, he could be pretty good trade bait, either for an elite rental (not this year) or a solid player at a different position of need, or as part of a bigger trade.
  20. I agree on Castro specifically, but a an above average SS in their prime with 4 years of control left seems like a pretty good value for Sano.
  21. I wouldn't give up Dozier for Castro. EDIT: But it would be close. I would consider Sano for Castro or a similar player. I'm just not a huge fan of Castro relative to his value so I'm probably the wrong person to ask.
  22. Indeed they did, and took about 3 years before he got himself under control and really took off.
  23. But they aren't altering his development cycle - he is going to be a reliever the rest of the year and start next year as a starter. The issue, if he performs, is how aggressive does the front office want to be and do they want to deal with 40 man issues prematurely.
  24. I think this is something that theoretically sounds good but works out much worse in reality. I think you are talking about more than a "few" occasions.
