  1. I wouldn't call Chargois or Boshers a lock. Perhaps part of Plan A though. Agree they need a long guy in some form, would be disappointing if they put Tonkin in that role again.
  2. When some of us were pushing back it was because there was suspicion from the beginning about the process. None of this surprises me. Of course, the players get dragged through the mud, the teammates were hammered even though they were right to stand up for their teammates, and an entire staff gets unceremoniously dumped. And as the usual, the course correction gets very little pub.
  3. I always thought his "problem" was arm slot. LHs beat him up pretty good, but he does a pretty solid job against RHs. If he was used correctly he would potentially be a weapon, especially with short benches.
  4. That is the classic injury for men my age. I have 3 good friends who have torn theirs in the last couple of years. My strategy is minimal hustle.
  5. As someone basically the same age as Belisle, the way my body feels after some pickup basketball definitely makes me realize I'm approaching 40.
  6. I like it, going to take a couple of years to bear fruit of course. And I also agree with the thinking of keeping the people in place, seeing how they can contribute, and then making adjustments next September. It will be really interesting to see the resources that are released to beef up some of these systems. Pohlads get crushed (mostly unfairly in my mind), but this strikes as something they will get behind and provide the needed resources.
  7. I don't understand the desire to get rid of Tonkin. He had good k and bb rates and was pretty good against rh hitters. A little homer prone but if used right he's a nice weapon. I would consider this a worse move if he replaces Tonkin.
  8. Clay Condrey! But in Ryan's defense, it was the Bill Smith era. This signing excites me only slightly more than Clay Condrey.
  9. No, it was someone else, I'm blanking on it. He did the rest and rehab for a while and eventually had TJ and never heard from him again. I actually liked the Zumaya gamble. He struck me as similarly meh. Classic Ryan signing.
  10. Belisle isn't that good. I was trying to remember the guy signed in the late aughts who blew out in spring training and never actually pitched for the Twins.
  11. Can never have enough relievers with k/9 rates in the 6s.
  12. Holland signs with the Rockies. 1 year, $7mil guaranteed, up to $14mil in incentives. I would have liked a shot at Holland, but I can see why they passed on him at this price.

  14. Still think they need to add a reliever (or two). Looks like Greg Holland, Joe Blanton, Sergio Romo and Fernando Salad are the best options left. Not sexy, but any of those could be worthwhile and potentially an option to flip if they rebuild value.
  15. I've found I like Fleck a lot more when I get to watch his results and not hear him speak.
  16. Few things in baseball have a larger gap between meaning and the weeping and gnashing of teeth surrounding it than the opening day roster. If Berrios and May perform they'll get plenty of big league starts.
  17. Especially true about May. Berrios is more likely to go down no matter what.
  18. I think they are both no doubt, should be easy first ballot, guys too. It was interesting to consider the Griffey vs Jones point. I'll agree with you all and say Griffey too, but it's not an absurd statement to consider Jones.
  19. They are different types of hitters and the career arcs are different, but for the totality of a career, Beltre is a very interesting comp.
  20. Even though I'm not a huge WAR guy, I think historical perspective is a decent, directional, contextual use of the stat. He never exceeded 7.3 (his number in 99). Very, very good season, but doesn't strike me as amazing in context of the time. (And, to be clear, this is not a reference to PEDs, but the watering down of pitching in context of expansion. Raw numbers are not as valuable). I think the genius of Jones, as you allude to, is the long stretch of really good play.
  21. I understand the position on Jones. He never had an amazing year, but his 96-03 stretch is really impressive, with the 07, 08 coda. He played 18 seasons and never dipped below 1.9 WAR, and it was only his last 3 that he was below 3. That is a really impressive career. Griffey had an amazing 12 year run, then did very little else.
