  1. All this concern and the game tonight is rained out. Won't need a 5th starter again for 10 days. Could be Gibson by then.
  2. Only if his bb rate got really poor. Other than that, I don't think stats matter all that much at this point. He's clearly proven he can put up good numbers in AAA. To be clear, I think Berrios should be up, I don't get this move. But I think it is silly to think the front office cares much about his numbers in AAA. If they did, he would already be up. They have something they are looking for, and they obviously think highly enough of him and his future to hold him to a certain standard that he needs to hit to be successful going forward in the bigs.
  3. Neither of those would make sense. It's also not what is happening.
  4. I don't know if anyone said that would be the case. I personally thought Tepesch was called up to be the long man. But Gibson getting bounced changed some plans.
  5. Berrios should be up, but your mockery doesn't make any sense. You really think they care even a little bit about Berrios AAA stats?
  6. This move is nuts, but I suspect it is very short term and then they'll DFA him to make room for someone else, which is why they don't want to call up someone like Wheeler. But come on, Berrios.
  7. Because he's good, and I want to keep good players.
  8. I wouldn't expect a discount on Dozier. Second contracts almost never are.
  9. I had a bigger picture thought here too. Assuming the Twins don't collapse and actually stick and end up in the 75-80ish win range, I would consider going extension crazy. Sano, Buxton, Dozier, Kepler, Polanco. I would do them all. Build off the momentum of an improved season, new front office, and push this as the next great core.
  10. He hasn't done anything long enough to matter, but much of the early coverage of Buxton was that no one player had a stretch like that and turned it around into a substantial career. Someone has to be the first right? It has been a pretty remarkable stretch considering where he was.
  11. Sano, and not close. His comparables (Harper and Machado) are going to sign monster free agent contracts after 2018. This is the pretty much the last chance to lock him up. I still wouldn't mind more information on Buxton, though in your hypothetical scenario I would certainly be open to an extension.
  12. A franchise usually needs to be good and leadership in place for a while and stable, and even that won't always stop it.
  13. I've heard dirty laundry the last year on Arizona, Colorado, San Diego and LA Dodgers, and I stopped thinking about it after the NL West.
  14. I don't think that reflects reality. There's dirty laundry aired on all clubs, especially if they are losing.
  15. I generally support this view, but the draft this year just doesn't fall that way. Top 3 guys are all pitchers. Can't jump the board that much. But on a related note, does make me feel somewhat optimistic about the current state of the team, they have the makings of a solid, young core of position players.
  16. Mauer was locked up at the right time originally. It just should have been for longer than 4 years.
  17. All pitchers have the same routine? Every pitcher does work between starts, but some will throw one day, but some do two, some do longer toss, there is different emphasis of workouts on non-throwing days. Some are tweaking mechanics, some are working on pitches. I think McKay could pull it off, he certainly has the time if he wants to, I'm just skeptical that a team that takes him as a pitcher is going to risk potential injury from overuse, or cage work, or the like. It is also quite a jump to from starting every 7 days to starting every 5 days. Need more recovery time, among other things.
  18. I don't necessarily want McKay, but a #3 isn't his ceiling. He could certainly be better. There isn't a surefire ace in the draft, and there isn't an obvious bat to take instead. Greene has the highest upside, but there are obvious risks.
  19. Should have traded Santana yesterday when he still had value.
