  1. Did anyone catch Cameron on his Fangraphs audio hit yesterday? Generally a pretty good podcast but the discussion of the article was uninspired. Did prove that while he has a good understanding of BaseRuns and the gap of the Twins, he has little idea of what is actually going on with the team. His big takeaway was that they were too giving at bats to Jordan Schafer and Shane Robinson, and his idea was to avoid big trade and focus on smaller moves (probably wise) by focusing on second tier starting pitching like Mike Leake (which would make no sense). My takeaway, skimming the article again after listening to the podcast is that Cameron is a very talented writer, able to weave a good statistical analysis into a context that he clearly knows very little about. Perhaps that is the vast majority of national articles?
  2. I second this emotion. You can even get it on iTunes as a podcast. I don't always agree with Ryan, but will say that every time I listen to him I am impressed - which allows me to take the position that he is reasonably competent and actually has good reasons for everything that he does, as hard as that might be to believe.
  3. But those guys won't get anything, maybe a couple months of a barely league average corner OF or a Fien type.
  4. Exactly the same except funnier, more profane, a couple of meltdowns, some bans, and some people threatening to leave and then coming back a couple of days later. Get the bad blood out and then on to the more important topics of the day (which probably can't be repeated here).
  5. All this is true, but getting someone like Chapman isn't like getting Capps either. Arcia is probably the best trade chip, in terms of value and how he can be replaced. And this might actually be the last best chance to sell high on him. He has power, but not much defense and will already be a super 2 starting next year.
  6. spambot way too low
  7. Was RichardMcBeef the one who took itstime up on his bet? And pretty much didn't show up again. That was amazing.
  8. This is realistic. Might be one of the AA power relief arms instead. I would do it.
  9. I'll also second the thought that cleaning up the little mistakes, being more opportunistic, and overall better defense have made a huge difference this year. And those things should all be sustainable. Soon it will be about getting more of the talent percolating in the minors up and in important roles.
  10. One observation from Patrick Reusse about Molitor that I like is that he uses his bullpen to win that day and then worry about tomorrow tomorrow. The example he cited (and there are others) was using Boyer in the 9th of a 7-2 game, when other pitchers hadn't had a lot of work in the games before. The Twins have lost one game when they led after 6 innings this year. Considering the talent level of the bullpen outside of Perkins that is pretty amazing. The upshot of this is that he is riding some of the guys, Thompson, Boyer and Fiem (before he got hurt), pretty hard. At this pace it is not clear they are going to make it through the season. On the one hand they might have diminished bullpen guys later, on the other hand they might not be all that great anyways so why not ride them while they are hot and worry about later in the year when they have to. By then, there might be some reinforcements on the way and some the younger guys (Pressly, Tonkin, Graham, possibly Meyer and Thielbar) in higher leverage roles.
  11. There have been some hints dropped (perhaps idle speculation) that he could be on the fringe of Twins plans. If he checks out, I would certainly be on board with that type of risk considering the safer alternatives. Doubly so if they could save some slot money and spread that risk out on some higher upside HS arms.
  12. Wouldn't you rather talk about negativity?
  13. I would think the only moves in the next week to 10 days (barring injury) will involve a bullpen tweak or a DH bat. Probably will be the same move. Talks of altering the starting rotation or demoting Santana seem unlikely.
  14. Regarding Hicks, I'm a general believer that when process improves the results will follow. But of course numbers.
  15. Video of his bomb last night: https://www.facebook.com/BaseballAmericaMag/videos/vb.247155898718/10153000894408719/?type=2&theater
  16. The long national nightmare is over. But Berrios is still in AA so there is still something. I'll be most interested to see if he can keep that k rate up, then the Twins might have something.
  17. It would certainly be higher, and would also make the subsequent seasons all that much more expensive too. I thought it was a good extension for both sides, and I'm not too upset that the Twins didn't buy out the post age 32 seasons. Twins are going to capture his prime for a great discount. Key is that they use these savings on something else valuable.
  18. I agree with you that it doesn't represent the strong majority of posts, but when a reader considers the full volume of things read on the board it is posts like this that will stick in your mind. Plus, it provides convenient strawmen that can be responded to aggressively, even though it badly distorts valid points others might make and the extreme starts to represent the norm (at least in the minds of someone with a contrary view). So posts like this live on and poison the discourse.
  19. I think this is a key point that can be overlooked in an analysis like this. There is no reason that the BaseRun underperformance will remain static for the rest of the year, it improved in May over April and could keep creeping up throughout the year. Add to that talent that can be added internally and I don't buy that the regression will be quite as bad as this stat would indicate.
  20. I would say that the Twins/Terry Ryan going too much "all in" this year is probably the least of my worries.
  21. In my mind it is comments like this that get people to overreact to perceived "negative" posts. Honest critiques about real weaknesses is an interesting conversation, but saying Terry Ryan's ego is too as the reason for a move does nothing for nobody and gives honest critique a bad name.
  22. Don't think this trade has any possibility but wanted to talk about the highlighted portion. Polanco has more trade value than Gordon and probably not that close. They are certainly comparable prospects (more upside for Gordon, more floor Polanco) but Polanco is much closer to mlb ready and that makes a huge difference. He could bring a nice piece back himself, Gordon not so much.
  23. Some thoughts from Ben Badler:
  24. Another similar question from a Ben Badler chat: Certainly not just people on this message board that are impatient for promotions. His answer, combined with Law's point, really nails everything that goes into a promotion.
