  1. I suspect they brought Boyer in because they wanted to win the game and not mess around. I approve of that strategy.
  2. I don't think the Twins were exactly up against it in payroll going into the season either. And continued success should lead to a little more revenue than expected. They certainly have room to add.
  3. The other thing is the Twins rarely call up a young guy unless he is going to play, just seems there are too many OF/1B guys (Vargas/Arcia/Buxton/Sano all seem likely to get the call up before) between him and the majors to get a taste - unless he really keeps hitting and/or there are several injuries. I also agree on the BB/K analysis. I am hesitant to scout stat lines too much, but does seem like a profile that could struggle in the majors. Don't get the rush, still seems like midseason next year is more realistic if not even a little aggressive.
  4. Interesting that there are only three names. Bregman would probably be my last choice of the three.
  5. Posted today: http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft/mock/?season=2015&version=2&source=Keith-Law-Mock-Draft&ex_cid=InsiderTwitter_law_second2015mlbmockdraft Has Twins going with Bregman.
  6. Susac is the only realistic option, but he wouldn't be better than Suzuki the next two years. And unlikely the Giants would move him unless they got a quality big leaguer at a position of need, which would be Plouffe. And that's not happening. Twins might consider acquiring a catching prospect if they collapse and start selling, but they are going to roll with Suzuki for the remainder of this season, and he is probably a top 15-20 catcher in the league at the moment, so they can live with that.
  7. Catcher is probably the biggest weakness in 25 mlb organizations. Really hard position to fill and to build quality depth. Turner developing would be huge for the organization, and anyone else as well.
  8. This is his AA debut. 30 games and 120ish PA so far. Just doesn't scream mlb call up to me yet, but if he continues to rake I suppose it would be possible. He is more raw than the typical prospect and will be a four option guy too, so there is some time. Always in such a hurry.
  9. Fair enough. I was just having some fun building on CRArko's comment, wasn't meant for anyone specific.
  10. I think you read my post backwards. I'm a huge proponent of irrational optimism. One of the great joys of being a fan!
  11. Kepler up in September? Seems aggressive but certainly not impossible.
  12. If the Twins keep winning I"m going to worry about the mental health of a handful of posters on here. Where will they find joy and meaning if not from criticizing the front office and seeing their fatalism come to fruition.
  13. I think as a possibility but never seen him directly connect the two as strongly as Law, both in mocks and in chats/comments/tweets. I could certainly get behind Allard if the medicals check out.
  14. Law is really the only one with Allard going to the Twins and hasn't wavered. Always conditional on the medicals checking out.
  15. I would suspect lack of high ceiling guys would drive this result at this time and that this is relatively cyclical. Twins are probably on the conservative side but don't seem like outliers, or at least not enough to garner any comments from national guys. It really should only matter for the handful of high ceiling guys and the Twins are doing just fine, as recent evidence shows.
  16. This is a strong statement. Are there actual examples of professional sports writers that have examined this data? Or examples of professional writers saying that the Twins are clearly slower than other franchises at promoting players. Most of what I read from the national guys is that they promote guys too quickly, if anything.
  17. Smooth move waiting until 1 am to post that Berrios is "actually" 21. As for your second paragraph, good for Ryan. No GM should say that he plans on a player in AA, even an elite prospect tearing it up, being ready or helping the major league team this season.
  18. If the bat is ready, I'd be fine with him learning LF in the majors. I'd rather he gets the reps at 3B unless they are moving him off it permanently.
  19. A catcher like that being available in trade exists much more in theory than reality.
  20. Plouffe has two more years after this one.
  21. Since he's compared to him often anyway, couldn't Sano follow a path similar to Miggy Cabrera? Broke in playing mostly corner OF for his first 3 years with some games at 3B, then moved to 3B full time in his 4th season for a couple seasons (and an ill advised return after Fielder was signed) and has since settled in at 1B. Seems like a potential path. That scenario times out perfectly with Plouffe's remaining team control.
  22. Do you mean no trades at all or no trade for one year rentals? Those are different equations. I would absolutely trade depth prospects for rentals, and I would trade good prospects for guys with multiple years of control, but like you I would hesitate to trade the better prospects for one year rentals this year.
  23. People can read stats and dream on the mediocrity unseen over the mediocrity right in front of their face. Saying he is better than Stauffer is kind of beside the point. Dude is on double double secret probation and will get replaced by a bat when he finally moves on.
  24. Since Molitor has already used Perkins in a non-traditional role (tie game 8th inning on the road) chances are high that he would probably be open to different strategies down the road. In different circumstances, such as having more than two relievers (plus Perkins) left through 8 innings, he quite likely would have used this type of strategy in this game as well. I don't think we'll ever see Perkins before the 8th inning though, and rightfully so.
