  1. I didn't realize your goal was for the Pohlad's to maximize their profit.
  2. Correct I said that all wrong and I take it back. The stat I should have said was the bullpen lost one game when leading after 6. But in my mind, the better way to look at it is the team has only lost two games when the bullpen pitched with the lead. Going through the game logs, I don't think that the bullpen has turned a lead into a deficit outside of the two losses. Not what I said, but quite impressive and pretty close to the point I was trying to make. The bullpen has not been dominant, but also hasn't exactly been leaky either.
  3. 1 loss when they have lead in the 6th inning or later. And it was early - the game where Hughes left early and Stauffer gave up a couple of bombs. EDIT: My mistake, it was two. I had heard that stat many times and assumed it was true, but found a second game. http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?id=350421107 and http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?id=350429109 I think the stat was when leading after the 6th, not heading into the 6th, but these are the two the bullpen gave up. But none in May, which is impressive considering 20 wins.
  4. Good point. I don't see Suzuki as bad relative to our bullpen and DH and I am probably too optimistic with Hicks. And Buxton could make it up. Meyer is slightly more than 50/50 to be in the bullpen.
  5. Not sure that is a worse situation if the goal is to win championships.
  6. This isn't going all in. These are exactly the type of moves many people (even the national writers) are suggesting they do. Hold on to the elite guys and trade some of the depth to shore up the weaknesses.
  7. Fear not, this wouldn't be enough to get Tulo.
  8. They did and they might now be screwed. Good enough to get in the playoffs but not good enough to get deep. Too much money tied up in expensive FAs that are pretty good but not elite.
  9. I would say Santana, Meyer out of the pen, and any of the three young DHs emerging again could be considered upgrades. And at the three weakest points other than SS.
  10. I'm not saying the bullpen is good, just that it has only given up one lead all season. Certainly gets rocked in lower leverage situations. The problem in my mind, is that Oliveros and Achter are in reality no better (and probably worse) than Graham, Pressly and Tonkin. So that is at best rearranging deck chairs. Perkins, Boyer and Fien aren't going anywhere (yet) and Thompson has certainly earned a little bit of a leash. There is your 7. Duensing is probably cooked, but there is at least a little bit of reason to hold out hope for a second lefty and he isn't killing them yet. In addition the guys mentioned aren't lefties, so really aren't replacements for Duensing anyways. If you want to swap out Thielbar, I'd be fine. Stauffer doesn't need to be replaced by another arm, should be a bat. There is certainly room for an upgrade in the bullpen, but the guys called for aren't really that, at least over the reliever that actually matter.
  11. Who said anything about punting (OK lots of people have been arguing definitions and semantics on punting, but not my comment)? This move is to get Vargas better for later in the season as much as the future.
  12. They both returned to AAA after debuting in the majors. I suspect you know this.
  13. I would argue more a sign they want to keep the game as close as possible for an inning or two. Pressly is the third RHP in the pecking order.
  14. Of course they could, but they probably don't want to use prospects on mop up/low leverage roles. I would at least wait until the bullpen started leaking before I started bringing new guys in. Now getting rid of one for a bat, that makes sense, but subbing them out seems unnecessary.
  15. He did mention bullpen too, that is certainly legit. And they do need a bat, but that should come internally sometime soon. But man, saying backend starter and utility infielder is tough. I didn't want this to be a criticism of Cameron per se, very difficult to keep close tabs on 30 teams, but like I also posted, does provide some illumination on how these articles are written and what type of context they are written in.
  16. Thanks for quoting it more specifically, I was going by memory, not right after listening. What I remember is him saying significant at bats to guys that aren't getting them anymore, no mention of players that have been called up or will soon be called up, and the names he mentioned to acquire made no sense. Acquiring a utility guy makes even less sense. Bullpen guy sure. I like Cameron, I certainly think he is one of the best national writers, but it was illuminating to see that sausage made a little bit.
  17. Hope he can keep it up and bring it to the bigs when he is recalled.
  18. a. All three have had a decent amount of at bats in mlb, theTwins have a pretty good idea of what they are doing at the moment and what needs to be worked on before they are ready. In recent years they have developed Dozier and Plouffe into pretty good hitters with less than linear development. They might have a specific plan of what they are trying to do with these hitters. b. Arcia is not ready, Pinto is struggling, and they presumedly have a specific plan for Vargas right now. So this point can be flipped just as easily. c. They are trying to win, and they are trying to develop. Balancing that can tilt certain ways depending on the specific situation.
  19. This strikes as the most obvious of all points. All this comparing of Vargas to Escobar misses the point of what they are doing. Vargas/Arcia/Pinto will be up when they are up and ready to roll, not when they can slightly outproduce Escobar. They are winning but still trying balance development with that, which is the right move this season.
  20. Why would you waste your time literally parsing the words of Ryan? That's a fool's errand. And yes, actions of course matter and should be the basis of judgement. Who would or has said otherwise?
  21. Actually it is his first rodeo in AAA. I'm sure for starters they would like to see him cut his k rate.
  22. While he was better in the past, I'm not convinced Escobar is the better defensive option going forward. Santana has the higher ceiling and is starting to refine his game little by little. But if he doesn't hit, the move might take care of itself. Though I would prefer dropping to 12 pitchers, this might be the move when Vargas or Arcia are deemed ready. One difference in way of thinking is that I think we are too quick to see a sub-optimal performance and want to ship it out, while the front office is probably more of the thought that there needs to be a clear improvement to push the person out of their spot.
  23. At the risk of going down a trail I want no part of, but do we read the same message board? As for your questions - the Arcia/Vargas question seems self evident, just a matter of accepting what is actually happening. With Santana, his defense seems to be improving, so they are probably willing to show some patience with his bat. For Escobar, it is probably a lack of options so long as the young guys aren't forcing their way back into the lineup. I suspect Ryan/Molitor would love to upgrade at DH but aren't satisfied with how the young three are performing, though Vargas might be getting close. I would personally give Pinto a shot, but he isn't exactly lighting up AAA (.729 OPS).
