  1. I'm not holding my breath for a new party, but I am thinking that there might be a handful of issues where the marginalized from each party can force some solutions - bank bailouts, military adventurism, etc. In my mind the solutions on a lot of issues aren't that hard to craft, but they are hard to break through entrenched interests. That is kind of the story of US political history - things take much longer than they should be they eventually break through and quick.
  2. Yeah, I like the ball talk, but a little too much seriousness and a little too much martyr complex when someone tries to make a joke. One person's snark is another person's abomination and blandness reigns.
  3. I think this is something that theoretically sounds good but works out much worse in reality. I think you are talking about more than a "few" occasions.
  4. If there is one thing teams are looking to trade it is proven SS. I hope that unnamed prospect you mention is Sano or Berrios.
  5. Take away his ability to execute plays and he is a lot less valuable.
  6. The other issue is that feet first is much less effective than headfirst on close plays. That is a lot of outs and a lot of value you would be giving up. Learn a proper technique.
  7. Isn't Jay going to spend the rest of season in bullpen in Ft. Myers? If he does well why not push him? Unlikely but certainly should be on the radar.
  8. Of course it is. Why would they fake one to leave them with no CFs while Hicks is on rehab when they could option him and save service time and money. Sprained thumbs are no joke for hitters. Damn it.
  9. Well said in your conclusion. Review the day to day angst and the long view of this season has been about right in regards to moves. And if nothing else, after 4 awful seasons, it is fun to follow the team again. Playing well, competitive basically every game, and young guys that are actually talented making their debuts. Would be nice if they won 4 of the next 6 and the KC series go as it might.

The NRA. Slippery slope from there.
  11. Way too highbrow for me.
  12. I certainly agree that Milone doesn't work in the pen. Plenty good 6th starter.
  13. And that they wish they had a high 90s fastball and a low 90s breaking ball.
  14. Milone, and there really isn't a second choice.
  15. I think this happens relatively soon.
  16. Why take him out of the rotation?
  17. I think this is a key point. Whatever the reasons for using him as they did, when the season was on the line he got the start. Says something.
  18. How soon do you think he'll pitch high leverage innings? I assume he is ahead of Boyer, but is he already ahead of Pressly? Won't be ahead of Fien anytime soon.
  19. This is correct. Can't think any team is in the business of calling up guys from A ball for a handful of games unless it is an unforeseen crunch.
  20. Don't see the point of Milone going to the pen. Not the kind of guy who will see his stuff play up enough. I think Buxton stays no matter what is done, unless he really collapses at the plate.
  21. I would change that to likely.
  22. I didn't forget (though didn't realize the exact date), there's just no comparison between a middle infielder and a 1B/OF when thinking of roster construction.
  23. There is a pretty easy way to avoid this. And I think it should be obvious that for many people the statistical nature of baseball and development of this analysis makes them a much bigger fan than they would be otherwise. My personal complaint, as far as new trends are concerned, is that analysis/discussion of the game has slanted too much towards roster construction/transactions/managerial decisions and away from the actual players and how they actually perform. There is too much emphasis on everything except the actual games that are played.
