  1. I think he would be an acceptable second reliever added.
  2. While true, 4 of those guys don't have value right now.
  3. I don't see a significant glut anywhere - yet.
  4. 1-2 times a year? That's not close. Which isn't to say he couldn't/shouldn't go feet first, just the cost is much, much higher than this.
  5. You realize Chapman is significantly better (to put it lightly) and controlled another year compared to the relievers traded.
  6. Is the PTBNL Berrios?
  7. I think Molitor has different motivations - he still has to manage the current 25 man roster, and can't have it out there he is asking for a trade in case something doesn't happen. If he was honest he would probably say "Get me some bleeping relievers yesterday"
  8. Clearly in hindsight it wasn't lopsided, and for many it wasn't considered lopsided at the time. Part of the value was that Shields only had 2 years left, so they wouldn't be paying big money for a diminished player like people think will be the case with Tulo in a couple of years.
  9. You mean like last time the Twins were in a one run game in the 8th. Considering Fien pitched the 6th and 7th today, it is either May or outside help now.
  10. Hu over Polanco and Gordon? I'll take that bet.
  11. Without question. Proven it in multiple locations.
  12. I also think being a 2B with an OPS over .900 and a 55/38 bb/k ratio (yes, walked 50% more than k'ed) as a 22-23 yo in AAA helped. He had pedigree, minor league numbers and scouts loved his swing. As stated, perhaps the most baffling miss regarding prospects of the last decade.
  13. I'd take Axford.
  14. I don't agree on Boyer (assuming they actually acquire a reliever). He has been relegated to the lowest leverage. He was kept around to minimize shuffling at the deadline. No one else makes more sense to get rid of.
  15. My only thought on these quotes is if teams are trying to squeeze more now and he is trying to wait them out that is defensible. Losing a couple days to avoid having to pay more for a reliever seems an acceptable tradeoff. I wouldn't be surprised if teams are trying to get more out of the Twins because they suspect desperation. But if he comes away with nothing that is a complete disaster. Means he was too stubborn to pay the right price. No defense for that. I have very modest expectations for the deadline. A c/ss upgrade would be nice but not the easiest thing to pull off. At the bare minimum he needs one reliever, perhaps two. If he can't pull that off...
  16. I think prospect writers generally consider him the most baffling miss of the last decade. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some success in New York, could be a change of scenery guy.
  17. Santana goes down before they cut Robinson.
  18. This is a great point I hadn't considered. Took the timetable at face value. Wouldn't be surprised if they more or less shut him down for the year.
  19. Agree but I think you are overstating opposition. Many people were in favor of the trade from Detroits perspective.
  20. Good prospect. As expected...
  21. In my defense it was two excuses.
  22. Or to wait is to have an untouchable prospect because he is so good. That's the fun of prospects.
  23. Really? You don't think the increases value gained by spinning Delmon and Harris into Bartlett and Garza had anything to do with the Rays making the world series that year? Obviously not sole reason but definitely a part of it.
  24. You're combining two separate points I was making. The hole created by the Span trade was less egregious than hole created by Delmon trade because of the point in the team's cycle. The Delmon trade was bad because of who he was as a player.
  25. I've read this multiple times and I'm not sure what contradictions you are talking about. ROY voting is meaningless.
