  1. Oh, if they get bounced in the first round and then fall out of the playoffs next year there will be some regret. I'm not predicting a Royals WS championship but they are the best team in the AL right now.
  2. I'll go on a limb and say that if those moves lead to a World Series championship they won't regret it too long.
  3. I think crazy, unfair, unrealistic expectations are a part of baseball prospects now. It's a dangerous combination of pushing for prospects to get promoted and not having the patience to see them through.
  4. Whatever it is it would have to include Nolasco. Probably Polanco or Santana. Something else?
  5. I would need more information.
  6. I would trade legit prospects for mlb players TODAY if they have multiple years of control. I've said this continually. Just wouldn't trade legit prospects for rentals and I'm torn on taking on huge money for declining players (Tulo).
  7. I would strongly endorse a Benoit move.
  8. But let's also be realistic. Relievers don't move until near the deadline unless you want to make a terrible trade. They can't trade for something that isn't there.
  9. I would have taken Hawkins too. Papelbon wasn't going to a team unless he closed. It wasn't about cost.
  10. I'm not really defending Ryan and his construction of his bullpen. I hope it isn't that binary. Saying the options people are calling for aren't better doesn't mean I fully support this trainwreck of a bullpen. I think they should trade for two arms (if possible), DFA Boyer, put May back in the rotation and probably give Tonkin one more shot. I don't think calling up Duffey or Achter does anything.
  11. I was thinking Clippard and Cishek. I don't think Papelbon was an option, and wasn't counting minor leaguers (Finnegan is going to start). Hawkins would be laughed at on this board.
  12. Who said anything about a free pass? Making stuff up isn't all that beneficial. Ryan did a poor job of putting together a bullpen. The outside guy he brought in was a disaster. But if you told him that Pressly, Tonkin, Burdi, Jones, Chargois, Reed would be contributing nothing to the pen right now, he would probably have done an extra move or two in the offseason.
  13. People can question all they want - and people can disagree. Beyond the Twins not calling them up, I have never found the other guys in AAA that have been called for all that appealing.
  14. The reliever market hasn't exactly moved, so not easy for the Twins to add upgrades yet.
  15. I would say a trade was not possible and none of the internal guys they tried did enough. And they never really tried Stauffer, Duensing didn't pitch leverage innings for a long stretch (and finally earned a chance recently), and Boyer hasn't really pitched a leverage inning in a while.
  16. Again, it's not like the Twins aren't watching these potential in house guys perform in AAA.
  17. There have been two relievers traded, right?
  18. I would actually say everyone saw it as a problem.
  19. Weighing the potential negative higher than the potential positive might just be prudent and accurate. Same with any decision. Just because you and other don't agree with the decision doesn't mean Terry Ryan necessarily is practicing Loss Aversion, you might just be wrong in your calculations.
  20. Based on what? Because they are different people?
  21. Duffey, Achter and Oliverson do not equal "so many options" they are not better than the group of guys that have already failed (well maybe not Duffey, but he has a less than exhilarating k/9 of under 7 in AAA).
  22. I completely agree with you - people are really good at identifying obvious problems, less good at offering solutions, and really good at overstating the potential of marginal prospects.
  23. It's not like the Twins aren't aware of these guys and evaluating them (well not Oliveros, since he is hurt).
