  1. Really good interview with him on the latest The Ringer MLB podcast. Highly recommend it for another perspective on this signing.
  2. Have to admit, it had slipped my mind that Light was on the 40 man before this move. Interesting that the FO is cutting one dimensional power and adding run prevention.
  3. Just a general observation. People are saying this was a great football game. I don't especially agree, straight collapses aren't "great" in my mind. I don't mind large comebacks, but to be a great game there has to be a counterpunch.
  4. As I said, probably Plan A. But if he's terrible in the spring they shouldn't force him on the roster.
  5. I wouldn't call Chargois or Boshers a lock. Perhaps part of Plan A though. Agree they need a long guy in some form, would be disappointing if they put Tonkin in that role again.
  6. When some of us were pushing back it was because there was suspicion from the beginning about the process. None of this surprises me. Of course, the players get dragged through the mud, the teammates were hammered even though they were right to stand up for their teammates, and an entire staff gets unceremoniously dumped. And as the usual, the course correction gets very little pub.
  7. I would expect a better year too, but it's not going to be a dramatic difference. If rosters were bigger and he could be a platoon partner a team could probably even squeeze out some value.
  8. At the very least the GM has got to go.
  9. People do realize Park is 30 right? He's not going to suddenly bloom into a different type of player and he's not going to develop the ability to consistently catch up to a big league fastball. This is especially the case with the injury he is recovering from.
  10. Fulmer? And while I would prefer Happ, I'm not ready to say that's a certainty. Benintendi is what is going to kill them.
  11. I always thought his "problem" was arm slot. LHs beat him up pretty good, but he does a pretty solid job against RHs. If he was used correctly he would potentially be a weapon, especially with short benches.
  12. Something to look forward to!
  13. Did make me raise an eyebrow. A lot of season ahead of us.
  14. I definitely think that will be the primary lineup to start the season, but I think they'll move it around a little. Makes sense for Sano to go 120ish at 3b amd 35ish at dh.
  15. I'm the high man on Santana, but only on the sense I would gamble on his tools. If they signed a legit middle IF and got rid of Santana I wouldn't be that bothered. As has been mentioned, likely Park isn't claimed, so they can probably still gamble on both.
  16. But it's not clear that Park will ever hit enough to justify not bringing any additional value to a team. Even if he improves significantly this year from last year it's not clear it will be enough. I'm not sure I agree completely on Polanco. Ideally he is a 2b, but I think him at 3b next year would be about getting the best defensive alignment with the best bats in the lineup. That could certainly be upgraded in the upcoming years, but next year's roster is not going to improve significantly at this point. I also think there is a little more in there for Polanco.
  17. The explanation was that the coach wanted to use him for multiple games for multiple weapons. He was kind of the relief ace that is often desired in more sabr friendly analysis. Doesn't make as much sense in college, imo, since they only play 2-3 games a week.
  18. That is the classic injury for men my age. I have 3 good friends who have torn theirs in the last couple of years. My strategy is minimal hustle.
  19. He's serious. It's a slight misapplication of the term "sunk cost" but the broader point is absolutely correct.
  20. I agree. I don't think DH only, but I could see 30ish games there. Probably a good thing, allows him to play 155 this year.
  21. I'm not as big in to making excuses for 29 yo mlbers. I'm assume he'd be a little better this year, but he has to get a lot better. Just never really saw all that much at any point to give me much confidence. And he brings absolutely no other value.
  22. As someone basically the same age as Belisle, the way my body feels after some pickup basketball definitely makes me realize I'm approaching 40.
  23. Fingers crossed
