  1. Well, if you quote chat responses like they have some authority, stands to reason there might be a critique. They are talented writers and entertaining in their chats, but they mostly just repeat narratives. Not that I blame them, hard to have great knowledge of all 30 teams.
  2. I probably shouldn't have said "lots" and more thought of it as keeping options open to move players around the diamond. Which is also the reason they aren't in a hurry to get rid of Santana. Guys like Park are dinosaurs, especially when they "produce" an 80 wRC+.
  3. The more I read Fangraphs writers the less impressed I am. I suspect the smart ones get poached by teams and the entertaining ones stay at the site.
  4. Since I don't want them to dfa Santana, I hope the gag lasts at least until April.
  5. I do think this move increases the chances of lots of Sano at DH and lots of Polanco at 3b.
  6. My other thought on Santana is I always think it is wise for a rebuilding team to place a bet on tools, especially if they have ever flashed a stick, no matter how brief. If he was in another org and was dfaed, he's the kind of guy I would want the Twins to take a flyer on, especially since they still don't have a SS.
  7. Perhaps. Also makes him much less of a loss if claimed.
  8. Sounds like everyone already knows it. I think he's worth another shot while making the minumum and maybe a more savvy front office and coaches to use him better. Or maybe he'll be the next guy to get dfaed.
  9. How will the Twins ever replace a 30 yo that hit 191/275/409 with a k rate in the 30s and no defensive flexibility.
  10. I'm the high guy on Santana, I wish he was as good as Punto.
  11. Park provides so little to the team going forward. It was an ill advised signing at the time and he still doesn't fit the roster. Good for the front office in being aggressive and not letting money on a contract dictate a move.
  12. I didn't especially like the Belisle signing, but the dfa of Park is fine by me. Highly doubt anyone takes on that contract. And if they do, I'm sure the Twins would be ecstatic. I'm also the high guy on Santana, so I'm probably biased. He provides depth at enough spots and is worth giving another shot while still making the minimum.
  13. I like it, going to take a couple of years to bear fruit of course. And I also agree with the thinking of keeping the people in place, seeing how they can contribute, and then making adjustments next September. It will be really interesting to see the resources that are released to beef up some of these systems. Pohlads get crushed (mostly unfairly in my mind), but this strikes as something they will get behind and provide the needed resources.
  14. I don't understand the desire to get rid of Tonkin. He had good k and bb rates and was pretty good against rh hitters. A little homer prone but if used right he's a nice weapon. I would consider this a worse move if he replaces Tonkin.
  15. Clay Condrey! But in Ryan's defense, it was the Bill Smith era. This signing excites me only slightly more than Clay Condrey.
  16. No, it was someone else, I'm blanking on it. He did the rest and rehab for a while and eventually had TJ and never heard from him again. I actually liked the Zumaya gamble. He struck me as similarly meh. Classic Ryan signing.
  17. Appoint Garland. Something like this: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jan/1/obama-could-still-force-merrick-garland-onto-supre/ Having failed that, I would now filibuster until the nuclear option happened. Set it up for later.
  18. I have no problem with judges who are honest idealogues. I'm torn on this. On one hand the seat was clearly taken through questionable tactics. On the other, the Dems keep bringing knives to gunfights. They get what they deserve.
  19. Belisle isn't that good. I was trying to remember the guy signed in the late aughts who blew out in spring training and never actually pitched for the Twins.
  20. Can never have enough relievers with k/9 rates in the 6s.
  21. Even if reputable, that is some weak sauce. He strikes me as a typical conservative justice. No reason to oppose on merits. Tons of reasons to oppose on process and politics.
  22. Of course it "worked out". Gibson hasn't been a great pick or performer, but very much an acceptable outcome based on expected value of that slot. And he's not dead yet. Alex Wimmers and Levi Michael haven't worked out.
  23. I think it gets worse. I see protest and opposition only getting stronger and more resilient. I think the strategy of response would have been a "law and order" crackdown, but that isn't tenable when the protesters are nonviolent middle class white people. War against an enemy, real or imagined, is the last chance to hold together support in the face of oppostion. The Supreme Court nominee "bump" will only last so long.
  24. Tonkin? I also think they sign a FA or two. Skeptical Perkins is ready, and less than 50% Haley makes it. But I do think that's Plan A for opening day rotation.
