  1. Didnt care for First Class....the sequel probably has me more excited than I should be.
  2. I think that's a reflection on Ponder, not Rudolph. Ponder has enough weapons, that's an excuse that has to stop. I can pretty much guarantee that if you put this group around an above average QB - they'd put up MUCH better numbers. It's just hard to post much more than 40 yards a game when your QB has difficulty posting more than that himself some times.
  3. The problem with plays like this is that they go from being aggressive to violent. And my opposition to that is that too many of these violent hits will cause the league to basically outlaw aggressive baserunning to stem the violent collisions. It wasn't necessary to head hunt there, you could've been aggressive without this degree of violence.
  4. I think an example would help. I would say the Philadelphia Phillies are a clearly more talented team than the Twins. But they also have a large number of aging, immovable contracts. I, personally, would rate them a decent bit higher in "mlb talent" (their rotation alone warrants this) but probably equal or even below the Twins in "mobility". Does that make sense?
  5. I interpret it as movable assets. What is it in your rankings you see to lead to your conclusion? Can someone post the mobility ranks?
  6. 18 is far too high for mobility. Cheap garbage isn't movable. i think ESPN was pretty much spot on from what I can see.
  7. Seems to me it's not very surprising that you barely get better when you barely upgrade the clear weak link of your team. I'd also suggest it will be equally unsurprising if they follow the same pattern again this offseason with similar results next year. Player production ebbs and flows, this season wasn't lost because a few guys took steps back (most of whom were talked about at length as high risk players to do exactly that) - it was lost because we never took getting better seriously. If the best you can hope for out of your acquisitions is mediocrity and you see that as a winning strategy, it says a lot for the quality of the product you are augmenting in the first place.
  8. That's not the spirit of the list. What possible sense would it make to judge the roster based on how easy it is to DFA them? Is that even a distinction at all?
  9. The biggest difference between Dozier and Plouffe is that one is a good middle infielder. The other was closer to Nishioka than Dozier when he played middle infield.
  10. Not much of anything in baseball is a "rule" insofar as adding talent. We have ample opportunity - I say take a shot at it. But it's important to note - Chris Davis was crushing minor league pitching for power. Ike Davis has been a good minor league hitter, but not quite as prolific. Still, this team has plenty of room for guys with actual talent.
  11. I predict you are more likely to be right....and it makes me want to kick puppies.
  12. Please list who is young and cheap that anyone would even bother with the phone call. I count Perk, Burton, Duensing, Dozier. Most everyone else is old or just plain not good enough for anyone to move for.
  13. Part of mobility is "immovable". Some of our guys might be young and cheap...but they're not particularly attractive trade options for anyone. Sounds pretty "immovable" to me. Afterall, how many cheap, coveted players do we have on our roster? A couple bullpen guys and Dozier is about it at this point.
  14. And yet, an entire industry of journalism not only does this, but does it really well and quite accurately. So, if this is the basis for your argument, it's rather flimsy. I've repeatedly said I don't know how much value they lost with their stubborn behavior. It might have been none. But they had ZERO reasons to be stubborn about it initially. They had no bargaining power save helping with his contract and they refused to put that on the table by all accounts. That, to me, is unacceptable. I hope they have a good reason for it, because the most obvious one is very upsetting.
  15. Here's where your entire case falls apart. This was only agreed upon after roughly 6 weeks of negotiation at minimum (given how long rumors tied the teams together about him). As many teams have been noted publicly - finances are being watched closely. It's quite likely that the price tag of 2M vs. 5M was a sizable one for them. So the latitude only existed because the Pirates called the Twins bluff - they wanted to move him (likely to avoid 10/5) and the Pirates waited them out for the lowest possible contract to absorb knowing they were the only option the Twins had. The problem lies at the Twins being stubborn even to put that option on the table. People keep suggesting that the opposing view is foolish because the Twins wouldn't have turned down a better package. The problem is that by all accounts - it was never on the table. The Twins never entertained picking up the cash so they never got better offers. They backed themselves into a low-value corner by their own stubborn behavior. And, IMO, it's pretty hard behavior to justify given the team's current situation.
  16. I predict: terrible and we no longer deal with him as QB.
  17. He said 680, but much more than 700 is unlikely. I could see the clamoring if we had a clear n quality replacement ready. We don't at this point.
  18. Our offense is already pretty bad. A full season of Mauer/Hermann instead of Mauer/decent 1B is another step backward.
  19. I read most of this post and I appreciate the effort to see how it could work out...but there is not a single universe in the multiverse in which that lineup competes. It's helpful though, to see even how far we are away in a pipedream. Oof.
  20. I probably wait two more years. Time to let Pinto be ready or to formulate another plan B. I wouldn't move him without a clear plan at the position. (And no, Doumit does not count)
  21. It works both ways. What's certain is that everything will not come up roses. We can't plan on everything turning out positively.
  22. I wouldn't move Mauer yet, not unless you think Pinto is a major league catcher right now. Only then do you make that move. I think this offseason would be better spent adding a FA 1B to try and generate trade value. Mauer's days as a catcher are probably numbered, but now isn't the right time. It would take away a valuable position this team should be using to generate trade value IMO.
  23. This. Arcia is our future DH, the guy is somewhat reminiscent of Delmon Young out there. He just doesn't look natural, no matter what athletic skills he has. Personally, I am hoping for Hicks-Buxton-Kepler. I'd like to see Dozier get a crack at SS again next year (it's a lost year anyway probably as well) with Rosario staying at 2B. If it works - awesome. If it doesn't, then we adjust.
  24. I think it's more like...why take time away from other things to make time for the Twins. With football coming, new fall shows, school starting etc. There are a lot of reasons to put the Twins pretty far down the priority list. There sure aren't a lot of reasons to lift them up the list.
  25. I'm not sure how you expect this position to be taken seriously if you deny multiple independent sources saying the same thing. It's not like there is some kind of vast media conspiracy against the Twins and no one is making it up. As for the rest of this, there are reports all over that teams are making moves in very cash conscious ways. The top story on MLBTR was about Cleveland struggling to add anyone to help out at 1B due to cash constraints. We're often reminded that this is a business for the owners. Why is it so far fetched to believe that Pitt was operating under a very tight budget for adding players? You're right that 250k doesn't seem like a lot to add value to a trade, but you're wrong to assert I'm saying the Twins are "too cheap". I'm saying they are "too stubborn" to offer to pay his deal. I don't know what the reason for that is - you are assuming because they are cheap, I'm saying I don't know. But it's clear that they dug their heels in, which is a common occurence for this club. They believe in a way of doing things and really struggle to budge from that. Seems to me that might have been the case here. (And again, to what degree that cost them value, I don't know)
