  1. I do. I also enjoy critical ones. My fan hood doesn't rest upon maintaining a perky cheerleaders mentality or bitter negativity. Sometimes praise is warranted and sometimes harsh criticism is too. A season like this certainly deserves plenty.
  2. Joe Sheehan also predicted a playoff berth for the Padres this year. Hopefully they can reschedule their parade. Whichonly speaks to the uncertainty of the future.
  3. Mike, the running game will likely suffer all year long as teams completely ignore the passing game. I thought the most miraculous thing about Peterson last year was to have accomplished all that against 8 and 9 man fronts. Ponder has an advantage the vast majority doesn't and still can't look competent. This is year three, the results speak for themselves.
  4. The biggest source of my frustration personally is the growing fear that we will be surrounding some truly epic talents with some utterly replaceable garbage despite ample money to do otherwise. it may not be fair to be pissed at each one individually, but to borrow from Chief, each empty data point compounds that fear and, by extension, the frustration.
  5. Pretty much this. At some point the buck stops and we need to actually do something. Not just talk about it. International free agency is the perfect place to spend money on younger players that often have less total dollar figures attached to them. They come with a lot of risk for sure, but we've gotta get over that as an organization. I'd argue there is no single factor greater to blame for this team's struggles than playing it too safe in every aspect of how this team acquires talent.
  6. I'd like him to not throw three interceptions - at least two of which were absolutely god-awful, unforgivable throws. One of which was at a pivotal point in the game in the first half when they were up with a chance to go up by 8. I'd like that the team not be 2-10 in third downs. A competent QB, even working from a disadvantage, should manage better than that. No one is expecting Peyton Manning. At this point he can't even manage to be Tannehill, Bradford, Alex Smith. If he could manage competence, then you'd have a point. But he can't and the league knows he is an innaccurate, easily hurried, incompetent QB. Expect a lot of teams to make running the ball difficult for us for that very reason.
  7. The problem with your argument John is that you're talking organizational and most of us are talking about the big league club. The farm is doing nicely for many reasons, but the big league club had a horrific season. Just change a few things here and it looks bleak: - 4 that took a clear step forward - Deduno, Fien, Dozier, Perkins - 3 that stayed on track - Mauer, Burton, Pelfrey - 10 that didn't - Worley, Diamond, Hicks, Willingham, Doumit, Morneau, Plouffe, Parmelee, Hendricks, Correia Those 10 are all players we had reasonable hopes would take a step forward in their ability to contribute or at least generate some sort of value. It was pretty much a total failure on those fronts.
  8. At this point, it should just be expected we won't make significant, somewhat risky additions to the team until proven otherwise. Every other excuse just doesn't fly when there is absolutely nothing to counteract the tendency of avoiding such deals.
  9. You don't think a passing game with the roar of a kitten had some impact there? Hell, I'd play ten man fronts and dare them. the loss may have been more on the D, but Ponder was absolutely a huge part of it. He isn't a capable QB, that impacts your entire team as proven by teams like Indy, Wash, Seattle, and many other recent examples.
  10. The defense has nothing to do with his comically awful interceptions and inaccurate throws. Hell, his best pass of the day should've been an easy touchdown that turned into an amazing bailout from Simpson. Blaming the D for Ponder is new, I will give ya that.
  11. Teach that to kids and amateurs. Professionals need to be exactly that: professional. Virtually every unwritten rule is there so whiny losers feel justified in being whiny losers.
  12. I also find it ironic that being a "good sport" is defined as basically treating the other team as a bunch of pathetic no-talents and ceasing to play the game.
  13. So yeah....he sucks.
  14. I believe all of us married guys have been there before..... The parallels to other work places gets pretty comical if you approach the same way baseball players do. Hurl a stapler at someone for not replacing the paper in the copy machine. You put your paperwork in the wrong order so someone dumps the water cooler on you. Etc. I'd have a lot more respect for unwritten rules if the fury players felt over it reflected in defeating the other team on the scoreboard rather than giving them a few bruises because they're a bunch of meanies.
  15. That's true Chief, but I think baseball players take enforcement of them and offense to them far more seriously than we see in other settings.
  16. These are professionals, if you don't want someone to steal a base on you - throw them out. You don't solve that by beaning someone in the hip. The truly classless part is the bad sportsmanship in being beat. Get better and stop the other team, stop whining about it and using a truly classless move (beaning someone) to change it.
  17. In the NFL, no position has more of an impact on team performance than the QB. Yes, it's a team game, but the QB makes his skill players better or worse depending upon his play. Ponder is terrible and eventually the excuse-making won't have any choice but to accept it. Afterall mike, wasn't it you in another thread that said you're interested in results not excuses?
  18. Unwritten rules are absolutely the worst thing about baseball.
  19. I'd say we already know it wasn't successful. But there is still some hope for some glimmers to get excited about for next year. But the season was a disaster and nothing the last 25 or so games is going to change that.
  20. I'd pick him up.
  21. I read into it that it's the flexibility to move major league assets in trade. It's the only non-redundant explanation IMO. Though I'd argue that Gardner, Nova, Cano (depending on when you are looking at this), Robertson, Granderson, Kuroda, Hughes, and Logan all represent movable and potentially valuable trade chips. I'd say that's a good deal more than us in terms of value.
  22. Parts of it were promising. Some of the characters were ok. But it didn't feel like the X-men, it felt like some lame, bastardized version of it to me. I'm encouraged by parts of it, it's a good place to build from, but it lacks some of the heart and soul of the characters IMO.
  23. Sounds a lot like what we heard about Delmon. Sorry, but I think we have seen enough to rule Arcia out as anything but a sub-par defender.
  24. I'm just going to say excellent article and snicker in the corner as I imagine responses to this intelligent breakdown of something we absolutely need to do.
  25. Chief had it right, Pelfrey isn't the problem. The problem is that the Twins would consider him a solution. If you aren't going to add elite pitching with Pelf as a complement, then roll out a bunch of question marks. You lose games either way, but at least one MIGHT help the future.
