  1. I want to see him get AAA reps next year, at least until June.
  2. We're a long ways from telling whether this was a mistake at all, much less how much of one. And even if it is a colossal mistake, it in no way undermines the fact that they are seeking out advantages for their team. I completely agree that an experience, well developed scouting staff is the meat and potatos of a good baseball team. But that doesn't mean you can't be looking for some ways to spice it up. The Twins appear to scoff at anything that isn't salt.
  3. Neyer clearly hates the Twins and always has. At least, that's what I'm sure we will hear. I like that the Twins use old fashion methods too, but there is clearly room to expand in advanced metrics. THis is, and should be, a fair point of criticism.
  4. He looked on skeptically while his manager went into a fit of rage that the opposing pitcher had the audacity to throw a strike?
  5. Bah...they are all liars, couldn't be that the Twins are drawing a cheap line. i like the idea, while the team is bad, to take tread off Mauer's tires and play him more at first. That would hopefully allow that he can take more reps at catcher in the future that way. But again, we have guys just taking up spots that have no bearing on our future preventing that.
  6. Excellent point. And that's the scary thing...when we start speaking with our checkbooks, it's only going to make some of the team's tendencies dig in even deeper. To me, the best reason to rush Sano/Rosario/Buxton is to get them up before the crowds start to dwindle and all that cash that everyone plans to spend in three years doesn't dry up. (I don't agree with rushing them, but if I was going to pick a reason to, that would be it)
  7. With that...I have no problems. Gardy certainly seems like he's clueless about the workings of the FO most of the time.
  8. Good news if that's what happens. Not only that they are looking into the player, but that the Nishi situation didn't scare them off for the future.
  9. Im unsettled by what was actually said, what you are doing is pretending the quote means something unsaid. You'd be upset if someone did the reverse. And you'd be right to be upset. Gardy said money, anything else is an interpretation.
  10. As has been pointed out, he cleared waivers so the entire premise of your counter argument is false. If Gardy had said the reverse and people were reading into this about money...the same people defending this would have a conniption. As I said earlier....it's unsettling that a major figure in the organization thinks money is the reason he wasn't dealt. Doesn't prove anything, but it's unsettling.
  11. We're talking about the Twins here. Relative to that, Nish was very aggressive.
  12. I vote "The Twins failed repeatedly to help Liriano reach his potential" and I don't think that would have changed resigning him.
  13. If Gardy had said: "I heard we didn't have strong suitors". Sure. You are stretching to make this about value when Gardy specifically cites money. YOu could say its too second hand....but you are trying to read into it your opinion, not taking the quote as is.
  14. If they were genuinely tough and competitive they wouldn't have been so offended by a homeplate collision.
  15. No, but it's hard to swallow the idea that money is the driving reason why he wasn't dealt. I would hope the manager on the team has a reasonable idea of what is going on, but at the very least you can conclude that within the organization the rumor is that he was kept because of a lack of trade interest due to salary. That's.....unsettling.
  16. Why would we give someone the benefit of the doubt for having a rationale reason for doing something irrational? Managers and players retaliate for stupid nonsense all the time. If anything, most "retaliations" are for made-up, oversensitive stuff. We should defer to the assumption that they overreacted, not the reverse. I don't know the details of this case, but I know that in the vast majority of cases where someone feels the need to "protect" someone else or "retaliate" - their reasons for doing so are pathetic and usually based on some bizarre notion of fair play.
  17. This team is not so well off that they have to worry about "making room" for anyone. Add talent when it won't cost you anything and worry about having too many talents at one position later.
  18. I would suggest his bat wasn't the reason he flamed out. It didn't help, but the majority of his issue was the Knoblauchian implosion of his defense. I can't imagine, no matter how much lower their standards are in Japan, that what we saw here was a reflection of the gold glover over there. Something about the major leagues turned him into a complete sideshow in the field.
  19. I was wondering this other day with the goodbye lovefest for Carroll. Yeah, he was a professional and probably is a nice guy....but he wasn't particularly good at baseball for us either.
  20. If anyone replaces Gibson, I hope it's Hendricks. Guy needs more opportunities as long as we clearly have space to give them.
  21. I don't sympathize with it at all. If you don't like that your catcher got trucked - tell him to get off the plate. Blaming the other team for being aggressive and not giving away an out is maddening. Not only do I not sympathize with that - I think less of the gritty, gutty Dougie I knew for not tipping his cap to a hard play. Why should ANYONE have been insulted that their was a physical play at the plate? Both teams are in equal on that one - playing aggressively to get an out and to avoid an out. I fail to see why that is a sympathetic reason to act like an idiot.
  22. On BYTO, I defended the Nishi move heavily and ultimately was wrong about him. But I absolutely stand by the thinking. We aggressively went after a talent outside our usual M.O. at a position we had been awful at for years. Our execution was poor, but I still praise the thinking behind it. Some people will do what you say here and some will bend their principles to defend the team no matter what on the flip side.....that ain't me.
  23. He's young, we have lots of money, he'll only cost money....so yeah, I'm ok with this being little more than he's talent and has potential, we should just freaking spend money.
  24. So it's ok to fight with someone because their team made an aggressive play to avoid being out? Jesus I hate unwritten rules. I simply can't say it enough.
  25. Frankly, I could care less how he turns out. I'd just be encouraged we took the risk.
