  1. This would be encouraging.
  2. To be fair, Dozier has had some brutal stretches we rode out this year. It'd be nice if Parms had gotten that same opportunity. I think that's so crucial for prospects at their point of development. As for Rosario, I hope he and Sano play in the playoffs this year with AAA and then see June call-ups next year.
  3. The key to me on this is consistency. Mint is in a leadership role now, which means him doing some akin to Sano requires the team to act in a similar way. It shouldn't just be sufficient to have the league suspend him, there should be some sort of team discipline, otherwise it sends a very poor message. Let's do away with the nonsense about protecting his players, nothing about this has anything to do with that and it's a crappy excuse even if it does. I, for the record, am on board with the team needing more fire so I'm not down on the action. But if you're going to punish Sano for poor sportsmanship, you better punish Mint for poor sportsmanship. This organization has a long history of playing favorites, the only thing I want rid of more than the "nice guy next door" cookie cutter is the favoritism. Just be consistent.
  4. This is maybe the thing that is bugging me most right now. I'm really tired of watching Clete Thomas, Ryan Doumit, and the rest of the cavalcade of guys that won't be here in two years taking the bulk of the at-bats. If we're going to be terrible I'd at least like it to be for a purpose. (Player progression)
  5. It should also be noted that most teams operate their payroll budgets closer to their limits, so they have less flexibility to make these sorts of moves. It's not that it's "easy" - it's that it's possible for the Twins. I'm just not sure why anyone would believe they'd pursue that avenue at this point.
  6. That lineup inspires me as much as the 2013 lineup inspired me before the season: not much. I like Arcia to really bust out next year (though it's about time we start talking about the fact that he's a DH, because holy hell is he brutal in the OF), but other than that I see a lot of injuries and disappointments in that group. We're still too far away from debuts and even if they do debut, we have to be fair and expect struggles.
  7. Depends on the metric but there is still a subjectivity in that BIS uses human scorers. It isn't purely statistical, there is still a considerable degree to which it contains interpretation, not just data.
  8. The injuries were my basis for suspicion.
  9. This is purely speculation, but I've always laid the blame for Hardy on Gardy. I don't think Gardy wanted anything to do with him and that precipitated the trade.
  10. See: Chris Davis. Finding someone like him isn't common by any stretch but it does happen. When you have room to provide opportunity and a change of scenery to a oncehighly thought-of player....it's a perfect way to jump start your team. Baltimore is a great example. Machado is a stud and some of their pitching prospects are starting to make it. (Some, again cautionary tale, are not). But they traded two unspectacular players and turned them into a superstar. we have all the ingredients for this: opportunity, unspectacular but semi-valuable vets, and a change of scenery. We should be looking for diamonds in the rough right now.
  11. Leave Drew Butera out of this.
  12. I agree, we should have cut him in May and avoided this whole thing, right Dave my boy?
  13. Totally agree, this is the other major avenue I'd like to see them pursue - potentially talented salary dumps. People were laughing at LAD a few months ago but a lot of their purely financial moves have catapulted them into being the WS favorites. Obviously the Twins don't have that much spending power, but it is an avenue they have available to them. I'm not, however, convinced they would pursue this route.
  14. I know he's fallen off the face of the earth from his former hype (another cautionary tale), but what's your reasoning? I know you're a Braves-guy, so I'm sure you have some good insights.
  15. Totally agree. In fact, I would argue MSNBC is worse at that game right now because they are consciously trying to be the lefty version of Fox. Fox and their major personalities are just too dumb to see themselves for what they are. MSNBC is actually trying to match the lack of credibility and over-the-top slant. I pretty much find them unwatchable, but the same is true for Fox. thats why I don't get the CNN hate. Yeah, their top personalities are liberals....but t least they try to be a real news agency.
  16. The most depressing thing about the Capps deal is that it only happened because Ramos' injury derailed a deal for Cliff Lee. Talk about a double gut punch.
  17. I miss that he was more fun to mock than this bunch. He was the new Joe Mays after all!
  18. Thanks, I'm guessing the key to this then is if you buy Hicks has been as significant a part of the range problem as those numbers indicate. I've been pretty consistent on the idea that Hicks hasn't been as impressive in range as advertised. To me, he has been part of the problem no matter how awesome some of those flashy plays have been. But here is a classic point where opinions can diverge (quite reasonably either way) because defensive metrics are subjective.
  19. Yeah, he has really surged lately. The pitching options aren't as strong....maybe a guy like Pomeranz? Or Tommy Hanson? He appeals to me as a flyer. Lawrie might not play our at our biggest need, but an athletic 3B that was a former top prospect talent could be a good fit. He can play some 2B if we decided to try Dozier again at SS.
  20. The Twins should be targeting top prospects that have struggled in their debuts. Justin Smoak or Lawrie or whomever that might represent a buy low chance.
  21. I would suggest that maybe Hicks hasn't been as good as some think and that is driving the ranking. BUt I haven't looked at the numbers, just talking eye test.
  22. There is a very long list of relievers who have been very successful with a limited repertoire. As long as those two pitches are outstanding, he's got a very good chance. The expanded repertoire is more valuable as a starter IMO.
  23. Well, in fairness, they are developing a pretty disturbing trend of selective editing. That said, this is a pretty stupid move. There is literally no upside to it at all. Especially to do it to CNN.
  24. Maybe, but he has some very big hurdles to overcome. His profile screams a guy that will make a very good reliever, so in some ways I disagree that he has a low-floor. Next year is going to be a very big year for what his future holds, that's for sure.
  25. Yeah the eye test is pretty bad at everything but C, SS, and 2B.
