  1. I hateslideshows with the burning passion of a thousand suns. I will never understand how people tolerate this site.
  2. This is probably the right move, but my god this team has few reasons to watch. Thank god for fall sports.
  3. SI and ESPN both said the onus was on the buyers to pay his deal. Frankly, I trust the national media more on an issue of payroll, less Twins spin chances.
  4. Well this can get taken care of easily. Your whole analogy is flawed because it utterly ignores a common practice of the sales industry: advertising. Companies selling things (especially ones floundering and desperately needing to unload merchandise) aggressively seek out buyers all the time. By all accounts we were not only passive in approaching others but cold shouldered in fielding calls and proposals. Imagine your eagerness to buy from salesmen that ignores you exist nd doesn't have the time of day for you. That's the problem.
  5. Most reports say we were unwilling to eat salary, that's the problem tht unravels your post.
  6. Except by all reports he never put the option of paying his deal on the table. The money is spent regardless - but what is a better use of that 6m? 2 months of the husk of Justin Morneau vs. a prospect. To me that's a no brainer if the prospect has any potential whatsoever.
  7. Do people not undrrstand Morneau's salary is sunk cost? It is utterly irrelevant if the prospect is "worth it".
  8. That is impossible to defend. Iftrue that kind of passivity is unacceptable.
  9. That's some excellent info - great first post!
  10. Sounds like the Kennedy move is a done deal. That's a missed opportunity that is tough to see go by.
  11. Absolutely. That would be an excellent buy low.
  12. Good thing no one on the Orioles consulted you on Chris Davis. Or the Twins with Glen Perkins. Or any of dozens of other examples out there. Sometimes guys in their mid 20s find a way later if you give their talent a change of scenery and opportunity. He may never pull it all together but baseball is full of examples to the contrary and the Twins have plenty of room to offer opportunity.
  13. It's been doing that for a few years, but I have no doubt it's influencing the quality of the market for what the Twins have.
  14. That would be true if you were willing to fairly evaluate him and his value and that was your conclusion. You appear to be in the vast minority of baseball writers and analysts, so it's not true. I hope we land someone like him for anyone we have available and I will be consistent praising that sort of move if we make it. i expect you will dog any former top talents that have struggled in their initial call ups. I personally find those types of moves wise gambles in these situations.
  15. No, but if it will cost you money and a prospect, it gets a bit more easy to swallow if you eliminate the money.
  16. That was my takeaway here. This is a pile of crap they got for the most part. Now that the deal is all the way out there, it looks like the price on Iglesias (Garcia and Villareal) would've been tough to chew on. In any case, when you compare what the Sox got for Peavy to what the Cubs got for Garza - the Sox fans should be very disappointed.
  17. I'll keep saying it, Jake Arrieta may end up being significantly better tahn anything we land. And getting him didn't require any top prospects or a top of the rotation guy. The problem is, even our mid-tier talent is value-less for a variety of reasons. The hard part is being in a rebuild, playing a lot of 30 year olds, and none of them possessing any trade value. Even the awful mid-90s teams managed that much.
  18. Looks like SS Rondon, P Wendelken, and P Moras to Chicago. Only Garcia was a notable prospect from what I read.
  19. I'm sure there will be more names, but damn....Iglesias would've made my year.
  20. Looks like a three team deal: Peavy and Brayan Villareal to Boston White Sox get Avasail Garcia Detroit gets Jose Iglesias Damn, would've loved to get Iglesias for a price like that if it's true.
  21. Since when does Doumit play first? Reviewing the options in this thread makes me, as a Twins fan, a very sad panda.
  22. I was referring to the Smith era.
  23. We need to shed these kinds of players, not add them.
