  1. I think Jeter relishes being "the guy" when it matters. I think Joe is good enough to be, but I'm not sure he wants to be. I think he likes being in the background more. (Which is natural for some people to do, so I'm not calling him a lesser player by any stretch) A guy like Sano is going to WANT to be up down by 1 with a runner on in the bottom of the ninth. I'm not sure Joe does.
  2. I thought Ryan addressed this perfectly on 1500 today. He went out of his wAy to praise Sano's makeup and stress tht they love his swagger. Just went too far this one time was the jist of it. Really an excellent response.
  3. I think September next year is a good bet. I think we see one of the two of them as early as June.
  4. I like Deduno and watching him pitch is usually far less painful than our normal pitching options, but the comparison to Diamond is fair. Diamond's issues this year can't be pinned down to an elbow surgery for sure. The truth is, he was a prime regression candidate long before we learned of that. Deduno's success is linked to a pitching repetoire he's open about having limited control of. And while that has worked strongly in his favor this year, it isn't hard to imagine how negatively it could work against him as well. He's fun to watch pitch, I hope he keeps this going, but his profile of success is a little more difficult to rely on.
  5. Drew Storen an interesting buy low move right now if we find a lot of buyers for our own?
  6. I opened the laptop and got on Twinsdaily just to say: Damn Hicks, that was a mighty fine grab.
  7. One might suggest Mauer could take a thing or two away from a player like Sano too.
  8. It means let him be himself. What I don't want is trying to put square pegs in round holes like we've done too frequently in the past. I don't have a problem with Mauer's demeanor, but I'd also like a few more guys on the roster with some edge/bravado.
  9. Not that I have seen, but ok. If there is some kind of discord about Epstein in Chicago, I would've found that interesting. Nothing I google seems to turn that up, however. I found this. It doesn't seem to jive with your take.
  10. So wait, now this is flipped on me? I said some of my friends (by anecdote I fully admitted) were happy someone was finally fixing the problem. What they told me is that they were sick of having an awful farm system and always trying to fix everything via big-name FAs. They were happy someone was focused on rebuilding the organization. Something International FA helps with. Now, I didn't flag your sarcastic post. I'm not going to be upset that you flipped this question around on me. (Forcing me to prove something I never claimed) All I want is for you to demonstrate the basis of your initial claim. Did you have a basis or were you just espousing your own perception of what you think Cubs fans as a whole believe? Is there an article, a link, terms for that google search above, anything you care to share to back up that claim? No one likes a rebuild because no one wants to be bad. But you can still be happy that the rebuild is being handled well. I wouldn't have thought I needed to explain that sentiment to you.
  11. I have no problem with the Twins "over-spending" - my problem is the thinking behind the QO. If you want to overpay Pelfrey for a few years, fine. I'm not going to take issue there, but you don't do it on a one year qualifying offer. You totally remove any leverage you might have. On the QO - if he's offered 3/20 or 2/16 - the one year 13M still is by far the best offer on the table unless he believes his arm is due to fall off at some very near date. We won't even have to worry about someone giving up a draft pick, he'll sign it before the ink dries.
  12. 13m kept Lohse unsigned for much of the offseason. Sanchez made 15M per season last offseason. Is 6 very solid starts making us this delusional about Pelfrey?
  13. No, the idea that this is "not playing well"? What articles are saying this about the fans? I can only speak via anecdote on this....but every Cubs fan I know from my time down tehre is THRILLED that an actual rebuild is being done with that team. So what exactly should I google search that tells me Cubs fans hate these moves? (In particular Itl FA)
  14. Well, unless the coach at your level isn't giving good reports on you. This has to be a two-way street. Sano has to respect and listen to coaching on how to mature his game and the Twins have to understand that part of his game is playing with an edge. Given the organization's history over the last few decades, it warrants some watching to make sure we aren't trying to brainwash Sano into a Mauer clone. Don't think we're there yet though - they've been advancing the kid aggressively.
  15. Ok, maybe I'm missing something....qualifying offers are still around 13M for one season right? There is no way in hell he doesn't snatch that up. I'd like to think we could use that 13M much more effectively as part of a long-term deal rather than on Mike Pelfrey.
  16. Is this supposed to be reassuring? I'm moderately horrified personally.
  17. I would LOVE to win a few battles. Thats exactly my point! And I am all for hiring some Rays people...they know their pitching.
  18. Its one of the best prospects in baseball....they couldn't duck the issue. Better to be straightforward.
  19. And with that I totally agree, but your comment about not competing with the large markets was my issue. We absolutely can the vast majority of the time. But I'm 100% with you on the Cards.
  20. Considering in another thread AAAA filler was all to be expected for most relievers a Harrison-type seems pretty good for an old reliever. The deadline is the time to make this move and what is out there now will be the best we can get. Whatever that may be, hopefully enough to move him.
  21. That wasn't even remotely my point. You are continuing a characterization of this team as "The little small market that could" - our revenues constitute a mid market team. We are closer to the big markets than we are the small.
  22. This is the key to me. I find it really amusing that someone suggested Killebrew would never do this, considering the dude loved to stand at the plate and admire his quite impressive handiwork. And who can blame him? Keep coaching the kid. This may be a step that is necessary after (I'm sure) conversations behind the scenes have already happened. Just please don't take the edge of the kid is my thing. This organization has been hypocritically harsh on players who have some feistiness in their game. Cuddyer or Mauer or any other "aw shucks" good guy makes a goof and we don't do anything. Bartlett, Garza, and the edgier guys get run out of town by constantly being blasted for how they play. Coach him to be a bit more mature and less insultingly showy...but please god don't take the edge off this kid.
  23. Guess that depends on a combination of what Ryan says afterwards and what the rumor mills kick out about it and trying to put the pieces together. Personally, I don't think they are doing anything aggressive here, so I am fully expecting him to stay.
  24. I know we're accustomed to saying such things, but the reality is - St. Louis got a compensation pick as part of competitive balance as did Cincy - we weren't in the running. By MLB's measure, we are a large market team. We're, at the very least, a mid market team.
