  1. Now this is bad luck. Buxton needs to avoid black cats, wow.
  2. I really think we have to consider this with Santana or Escobar, but I'd rather gamble on Santana personally.
  3. If the Twins have a legitimate plan in CF, then I think you move Santana back to SS and shop Escobar hard. He's had a great year and I hope it continues, but I'd be hesitant to bet on it.
  4. Hicks was also rumored to be an all-world defender and he had plenty of issues. The Twins aggressive approach with hitters is reason to believe before September COULD happen, but you're being way too bullish to suggest June is "the latest" it would happen.
  5. I think drjim has it right, we had a partial transition year with next year sharing the other part. By August/September we may officially be trending up with some good debuts. The caution is a guy like Arcia: tremendous talent but adjustments can take time. We need to be careful not to get too hyperbolic in our expectations just because we have arrivals.
  6. I think the "let the players police themselves" nonsense is stupid regardless of sport. It does nothing to cut down buffoonery or disrespect and only indulges the worst offenders. So that goes for hockey fighting or targeting players for sure. It does not, however, count normal physical play that extends beyond whistles in football or hockey. Those sports are very different from baseball and those actions are penalized when they go beyond typical physicality. When those sports indulge in similar behavior (bounties on injuries, fighting, etc) as baseball does I'm 100% consistent in my dislike. I assume you are then cheering the goons of the sports world as you are here?
  7. Wow, that's pretty exciting news. Making the hopes for next year just a bit brighter.
  8. Wouldn't decades of "getting one in the ribs" have long eliminated all these problems that seem to keep necessitating someone "getting one in the ribs" if your claim was true?
  9. Looks like they moved him to the pen with a promotion to AAA, so far so good on the experiment but nothing notable. Just solid production.
  10. They don't, you managed to escalate it by doing something even more disrespectful to fix the disrespect you endured. I don't see how anyone thinks this system of problem solving accomplishes anything.
  11. It's absolutely not. You proposed an act of violence to address some act of buffoonery. I find that every bit as reprehensible as Harper's buffoonery. You want the Nats to bench him for being a buffoon? Absolutely agree with it. Using violence? You just stooped to his level.
  12. The other day I asked for light ice in my tea. The guy filling it clearly gave me medium ice. I propose to "have this problem solved" by hurling the napkin dispenser at his head. He'll never incite me again! You could also fill in any other minor infraction done to you in life in the same way. I doubt many of you find violence an appropriate solution. I'd argue there is every bit as much immaturity in being insulted by this as there is in doing it. Let it rally your team emotionally and go beat him on the field.
  13. Nerves like this and his eventual need to make adjustments are why starts like this in a lost season are so imperative. Kid will be fine, glad he's getting his taste now.
  14. I'd add that the bullpen continues to be no joke. They looked primed for serious regression but have held up pretty well.
  15. Look at him as an option this summer. The team needs a viable non-Hicks/Buxton plan but one they are comfortable sliding out when the kids are ready. That might be a Young or Rasmus or whomever....but let's not pretend a warm body capable of playing CF isn't a necessity. Maybe we could then play our shortstops at, I don't know, shortstop perhaps.
  16. Part of the distinction Gardy, and other managers make, is preferential treatment to veterans. You will commonly see public remarks about rookie mistakes and virtually never see that with veterans. I believe public admonishment of mistakes is wholly unnecessary, even more so for players trying to get better. Gardy has gotten better at that and I'm happy to compliment him (as with Arcia) when he does so. But he has made it almost a staple of post games to dog some kid - that accomplishes nothing but knocking the kid down.
  17. If you want to rationalize the double standard, that's fine. I may even agree with you. Others, however, argue that such is not even the case.
  18. I was aiming at the dream big of a designated TD scout. Maybe reaching out to fans in our affiliate regions.
  19. I think they'll be 7-9 or so. The defense is still in need of a bit more help in the secondary but I think they take a major step. I also really hope we get at least 6 games of Bridgewater under center. I'm pretty excited about what I saw of him in college, but I have to see it against this level.
  20. I hope for Molitor personally. I think the notion that Gardy is consistent in his handling of veterans and young players is pretty laughable. But he's gotten much better about it over these losing seasons, that much I've noticed.
