  1. Right, Suzuki's play at this point is making anything Pinto does down there a non-factor until Suzuki is traded or hurt.
  2. If you're going to jump a guy up as quick as Santana than you need to be really, really sure that what he needs can be found in AAA and not the bigs before you give up on that. To me, Santana looks like a kid that needs to knock the rust off but has the ability. Plouffe, by contrast, never looked like he had the tools to play SS. Santana does. But I will say this, if there is a reason to send Santana down I don't think it will be his glove. It'll be if his readjustment to the league's adjustment fails at the plate. But we need a considerable amount of time to make that determination.
  3. Right and I often feel like the definition of "ace" shifts to fit whatever argument one wants to make. It's also rarely factored in that many of the NL pitcher look more ace-like than the AL ones because they have the benefit of a free out every nine guys and a generally easier time in their league. For me, if you were a top 20 pitcher the previous year, you pitched like an ace. Hughes did that last year, but I have my doubts that he can sustain that.
  4. Well...you lost me right there.
  5. What makes someone an "ace" then? I have trouble rationalizing a definition that doesn't include how ridiculously good Hughes was last year.
  6. He sure as hell was last year. He actually pitched better than many of his statistics show. (Thank you very much defense) Will he continue to be? That's a tough one.
  7. Or the way he had to unbuckle the cement shoes before he made that "effort".
  8. It's a sidetrack, admittedly, but I really like your point about team control. I bristled at the notion when we were discussing Dozier extensions as well. Added team control/cost certainty really isn't an attractive component to a trade unless the guy is ridiculously outperforming his pay grade. The Span example is a good illustration of that. In any case, I can't imagine bungling a position worse than we have CF for the last few years.
  9. I think it's the principle of the matter. It's a stupid KIND of law to have on the books.
  10. I think part of the problem, at least it was for me, was those first 7 games made competency look unattainable. It was some comically awful baseball. These last two games just sober that up a bit and go to show it wasn't as unattainable as it looked, even though the fundamental issues remain. They were just under a ridiculous spotlight to start the year.
  11. That was my take away too. They finally looked like pro ballplayers and were watchable playing. But weve got a long way to go to judge things, even if some complaints are already pretty apparent. (Looking at you CF)
  12. The biggest question this team has right now is if Rubio can stay healthy. At this point I'm starting to lean on "no". Also, I'd take Towns.
  13. If Alex Meyer can't come up for control issues, there is no way in hell Hicks should be coming up with splits like that. Let Hicks figure it out in AAA until June, the CF disaster shouldn't be fixed by rushing him for a third time. It should've been fixed sometime in the last three years with someone else.
  14. The worst part is, so long as this is the starting nine...it likely ain't getting any better either. This isn't just a tough few games, this is what we should expect from this group of defenders. That's scary.
  15. We're a long way from solid much less sugar plums.
  16. Is Bremer allergic to saying that's Torii's fault? It's not "on the outfield" - it's on Torii.
  17. I like Rubio more than most Republicans prior to ramping up for a Presidential run. Then he started ramping up the crazy to stay relevant.
  18. I disagree slightly. Hicks was given leash because he was thought to be close to a MLB player. That was a miscalculation (one I think could have been foreseen by his minor league track record), but that leash got too long when it was clear he was overmatched and needed more work. Rather than reverse course and do something about that the team has twice felt like making him the incumbent CF was the right move. (And further felt like having the likes of Bartlett and Mastro as Plan B, so doubling down on their miscalculations) It's that mistake that feels like the leash was too long, especially from a guy that wasn't even a good fielder on top of his incompetence at hitting the ball with any authority.
  19. He pitched a damn fine game, I'm hoping that trade pans out well. I thought it was great value at the time and Milone is plenty young enough to be a factor for this team going forward. He'll never be an ace or anything, but a solid arm is always nice to have.
  20. Wait, you mean there isn't a Fuld Tree to help us when we decide a career SS in his 30s, a year removed from baseball, makes for a good Plan B in CF? Someone should tell Terry. Quick.
  21. I would add the other half of us vote for people that say they're about spending on the poor but are really more concerned with keeping themselves in power. That's why no third party can or will exist - the two established parties have basically made it impossible in a national election for President. But in Governor races and congressional races we've seen the Tea Party and Independent Party win. But the deck is so thoroughly stacked against those candidates it's ridiculous. We need election reform almost as badly as campaign finance reform.
  22. And yet despite being an inept player, Mastro still wasn't the worst Plan B of the last three years. Amazing.
  23. You don't help your team get better by accepting bad players playing for you. Bourjos is not a good offensive player, he is a good defensive player, however. The problem is the Twins have managed to put both a crappy hitter AND a crappy fielder at arguably the second most important position in the field for three years now under the same logic you are defending: clear the way for Hicks. I cannot claim your apparent insight into player prices around the league (you should share your source, it appears you have it all figured out) but I know that if the best player we can manage as a 4th OF that can play CF is some pick your poison between Mastro/Schaefer/Robinson....we're not trying hard enough. Had this team fielded competent plan Bs the last two years and this year was different for Buxton I'd have less of a complaint, but this is the THIRD YEAR of this disaster.
  24. Bourjos is not an "old" player. Neither is Gose. And I'm not attached to our 15th best prospect in AA so much that I want to see another disaster in CF again if it can be prevented. We have young pitching and a park that necessitates good CF play, it should've been prioritized. But If you think Mastro was a "fine" Plan B I'm not sure we're going to see eye to eye on this no matter what.
