  1. I'm as down on Hicks as anyone, but we're going to need to know a lot more about his situation to declare it another sign of his mental make-up being questionable.
  2. I want him to lead off soon, but I'm glad to see him at 9th today. I hope the kid hits the ground running and we never look back.
  3. You realize that Morneau's "slump" would look like an offensive onslaught from Hicks.....right? You're cherry picking 60-70 at-bats to make a point, but Hicks has had 650 dreadful at-bats with little glimpses of positivity. Rapid fire on the rest: Cuddyer's 2004 and 2005 are not comparable to Hicks, cmon. Dozier being older doesn't change the fact that he became a decent hitter in half the time = poor comparison. If July 2011 was Plouffe's turning point he had only 150 PAs before it - not 650. None of these players were even close to as bad as Hicks and even their down periods were HALF the PAs afforded to Hicks at this point.
  4. I totally agree about Arcia, but your comparisons aren't really that good. But let's talk about each of these: Hunter was sent down after 550 or so PAs, went to the minors, and never looked back. He had an absolutely torrid Aug/Sept and became what he is. Cuddyer was never even close to as bad as Hicks. Morneau's cup of coffee 106 ABs was all that even compared and then he took off too. Plouffe was bad defensively, but never even close to the abyss of offense that Hicks is. Dozier had 300 ABs that were as bad before he turned it around. Hicks is at 650 ABs and still putrid. None of those guys are even close to that other than Gomez who is a very rare exception.
  5. That's fine, but the step up to the majors has ended many a good prospects. We're at 600 at bats in the majors and it has been absolutely dreadful.
  6. As an independent I can tell you Clinton pretty much eliminates my interest in voting Democratic.
  7. What has he done to indicate he will be that rare exception and not just another flamed out prospect? The guy hits the ball with the authority of a whiffle ball.
  8. Go look at Blackmons splits if you really think he's the guy. He is all Coors.
  9. Hicks certainly hits the ball like a pitcher.
  10. I believe we've shown more than enough patience with Aaron Hicks and his performance in the big leagues.
  11. I totally agree, he can be a usable asset. But we're talking about a former first round pick, at one point the class of the farm system, and a guy we have twice handed CF to in hopes that he would lock it down. To conclude he is a 4th OF is a disappointment, but it's also the conclusion I'm forced to agree with.
  12. Not at all. I commented a couple times that when he returned he looked like a completely different outfielder. But this is a slip back to what we had seen the first two seasons and when you couple that with still being a soft-hitting outs machine at the plate, it convinces me that I was wrong he could be a contributor as more than a 4th outfielder. I think that's all he'll manage as a big league CF.
  13. So derailing about the bullpen wasn't enough, now you have to misrepresent the discussion and declare the thread over? This has clearly been about both his defense and his hitting and about his career trajectory now that we are in the midst of our third failed attempt with him. If you don't want to discuss that, fine, but please - let the rest of us then.
  14. Aaron Hicks and the bullpen are different problems. You want to make a post about how the bullpen sucks? I'm right there with you. This is about Aaron Hicks sucking and that is completely independent of the bullpen. Quit tying them together.
  15. We'll wait until he makes 6-7 more and nearly concusses himself a few times running into walls before we worry about it?
  16. I'm not saying he single-handedly lost that game because of Hicks, that's a strawman. But he sure had a major part in it along with the relievers. This is about the larger picture with him and last night was the straw that broke the camel's back for me personally.
  17. Well, at least they end the 8th 2-2 and not 6-2. I consider that a pretty major difference.
  18. The bullpen can suck and Hicks can still have made a god awful play. They aren't mutually exclusive. And this isn't Hicks' first clown rodeo out there in CF.
  19. I believed that a long stint in AAA this year was his last chance and I thought he could still be part of the future. But his bat is still atrocious and he still makes comical misplays in CF. He's a 4th OF. I don't like it but I concede it.
  20. Lavelle thinks the prior incidents are heavily influencing the punishment.
  21. Sano for Blackmon is a catastrophically bad idea.
  22. If basically admitting that what he's done has been ineffectual....what's the point of wanting him to run? I get your point and agree with it to a degree, but what has he accomplished then?
  23. I don't think anyone will seriously take that as a violation of the umpire contact rules, that isn't the intent.
  24. I don't think you're reading it correctly if that is your conclusion. I'm also struggling to see how the umpire initiated contact. I thought he stayed relatively calm. Torii has a right to voice his opinion and the umpire has a right to toss him if he crosses the line. I would imagine Torii wanted to cross that line, everything that happened from there was theatrics for a purpose. But faulting the ump there for anything but one bad strike call is unfair.
  25. Damn, comes back spitting fire!
