  1. That's the part that is hard to tell...had he continued to sprint, could he have gotten it? I'm not sure. I lean towards yes, but once he decided he couldn't catch the ball it becomes really hard to tell. He definitely misread the trajectory, but as others have said the weather could have been another factor in addition to Fenway's quirks.
  2. I understand the tone you are seeking, but if anyone disagrees about where the balls lands I encourage them to watch the video and how the ball bounces. It's not an argument prop, it's just the way things happened. The retort that someone at the game would have been better at seeing this than two slow motion replays defies my TV watching experiences. Especially given there are about 15 people sitting anywhere close enough to see that up close. And none of them look old enough or ornery enough to be our Chief.
  3. Right, but then he was that for 8 seasons!
  4. I've made it very clear, in multiple posts in fact!, that I don't think this derails his progress this year. drjim and I had a very pleasant back and forth from different angles that ended in a near agreement. It wasn't a great play, but it's also nothing to panic over. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts. That seems to be where the bristling starts.
  5. Plus I'm sure there was some damn kid on his cellphone blocking his view. Don't forget that.
  6. The video has three angles and is in the first post on this thread. Watch it. It's not really a matter of opinion. The ball bounced on the warning track, something difficult to see at first glance without multiple viewings. You want to disagree about how he played the ball...fine. But the ball hit the wall on the bounce, not on the fly. That's just a fact. I'm willing to have an open mind about why he misplayed it (Fenway is kooky, don't blame the kid for hesitation for that), but if you're going to disagree with a fact I'm not sure you have much ground to stand on.
  7. It's nitpicking to say he misplayed the ball? He misplayed it. Ok, we don't have to cut him. But we have seen some issues in the past so it's worth watching. It's great that Chief was at the game - that replay, particularly the second and third shots of it, make it clear that the ball landed on the ground. Not hit the wall. Hicks clearly played it like it was going to hit the wall. Thus, he misplayed it. It's not nitpicking and your post was completely unnecessary.
  8. I tend to think both sides are limiting freedoms in different ways. But the Republicans bother me with their emphasis on particular social issues. At the same time, those issues they have emphasized may lead to a hard death for the party and the leading candidates. The Republicans continue to emphasize the wrong side of the wrong issues and those consequences are coming soon.
  9. I tend to see Republicans as being very efficient at causing immediate, awful damage while Democrats are really good about giving you a shiny package that explodes in your face 5-15 years later. Not sure which is better.
  10. I like many of the things Clinton did, but the climate in which he was President also had a lot of things outside of his control making things better. Some of his policies have lead to many of our biggest issues today. (Incarceration rates and the push to make it possible for everyone to buy a home in particular)
  11. Most democrats think Clinton was largely a Republican in sheep's clothing. And I agree the hardline neo-cons like Walker are absolutely atrocious politicians. The more moderate Republicans I'm more comfortable with, but they are being drummed out of the party.
  12. I think there are more candidates in the race than days left until the election. Just sayin.
  13. Could you provide some such data on outcomes? Frankly, I think they both suck at everything you listed for different reasons.
  14. It is an indication, it's just the first since he's come back up. Hicks has had significant difficulty going back on balls and even moreso with balls as they close in on the wall. Those are naturally more difficult plays but that difficulty has caused concussions concerns more than once. (Not to mention some ugly wall collisions) We might be able to just chalk this one up to Fenway, but it's something to watch in case a pattern redevelops.
  15. Might as well start early - lord knows the Republican field certainly has. What does everyone think the big issues are going to be that decide this race as we sit about a year and change away from the election? (Thread started in honor of BYTO thread)
  16. So with ISIS closing in on Baghdad.....why are we failing so miserably at containing this group? What about our policy is causing us to lose?
  17. I love Molly, big fan of the decision to go with him...but the irony of him being anti-DH only types is a bit hard to swallow. I really hope that's not the case.
  18. Right, Fenway is goofy and it caused Hicks to misplay a ball. He wasn't the first good CF to do so and I doubt he'll be the last. But it was a misplay and that's ok.
  19. Then he misread where it was going to land. I'm not sure how that's better.
  20. I take that back. I'm sure it doesn't hit the wall. It hits the warning track and bounces off the wall later.
  21. You should watch where it hits again. I'm not even sure it hits the wall. And it was a good distance away, but Hicks had time to make that play because of his range.
  22. A good point to make. I'm just being honest with this take personally, I still think on the whole he's played remarkably better in the field since coming up.
  23. Is that how you characterize this flyball or are you speaking generally?
  24. And didn't he concuss himself at least once awkwardly running into the wall?
  25. His positioning was a few steps towards RF....how is that catch impossible? I implore people to focus on the catcher view. The deke didn't work because the trajectory was obviously well to Hicks' right and Aaron is standing around deking for several seconds that would have been more than enough time to get to the ball. You won't hear me say this often, but Gladden is right.
