  1. Great point. Just like Hunter has a right to stand up for himself, so does the umpire.
  2. That's all fine, I just think there is room between meek and mild Joe and this. I'd also contend that this tantrum had little to do with the strike call and probably much more as an excuse to try and wake up his teammates.
  3. He's going to get eaten alive by the pitching at the big league level.
  4. I would've preferred if he has to throw a tantrum for us to win that he had chosen to do that when we still had a chance to win. In the bottom of the 8th while getting your butt handed to you seems more like sour grapes.
  5. If they are going to do something it should be to add outside talent, not rushing prospects if they aren't ready.
  6. You're right that the bad economy alone doesn't lose him a race, but it's hardly something for him to run on either. He's also the worst kind of fiscal conservative - the kind that picks and chooses what he wants to be conservative about. He still wants a blank check for defense spending, he only busted the unions that opposed him and not all public unions, he was only too happy to hand money back to corporations over people, and he used his position as governor to bully organizations he disagrees with socially. He's not a fiscal conservative, not in the true sense. Only in the sense that the Republicans and Tea Party want you to believe.
  7. My problem with him stems from the fact that he looks like a shill. The guy has never been anything but a political lackey who seems to say what he thinks people want him to say because being a politician is all he's ever been. I'm immediately distrustful of anyone who has stayed in government their entire life. He "union busted" the unions that didn't support him and protected the ones that did. His answer on ISIS is what I'd expect from a guy whose entire history is small time Wisconsin politics. He was behind idiotic voter ID laws. But maybe worst of all - isn't the point of pure fiscal conservatism to get out of the way and create jobs? I'm pretty sure Wisconsin is dead last in job creation under him. I'm not sure that's much to run on.
  8. Waiting until then may jeopardize the need for them on the "playoff" roster.
  9. The bullpen thus far is a microcosm of how the Twins handle bullpens. They find wonderful reclamation projects and do an excellent job squeezing way more out of guys than you'd ever expect and then they hang on to them WAY too long believing they can find it again.
  10. It's only the 18th-25th spots on the roster. They don't matter that much Dave. Or so I'm told.
  11. Plouffe shouldn't be replaced, but his recent slide should put a little more doubt about how locked into 3B he really is. Or just how committed we should be to keeping him.
  12. I don't think anything that has happened in the show even cracks the Mountain's Top 10 atrocities in the book, much less overall.
  13. Blame Martin. This season has been a bit more stale, but compared to the content they are making it from it's been a roller coaster ride.
  14. Right but the promotion had nothing to do with his performance in AAA and everything to do with the team realizing how much they needed his type of bat
  15. The show producers confirmed it in the "Inside the Episode" segment. I understand not liking the choice, certainly it was a difficult thing to watch. But it also follows a very old myth/story that Martin seems to be running Stannis parallel to. For better or worse. And given how critical a character Stannis is, I'm not sure the show had another choice.
  16. Ryan just said they sent him down for pitch recognition, but the call-up was because of the needs of the big league lineup. So there you go.
  17. Indeed, but all along Stannis has been Martin's Agamemnon. This was only a matter of time. The best part is that all the book purists are freaking out about it, only to find out a few hours later that it was Martin's idea.
  18. That's the part the ruffles my feathers a little bit. The notion that it's the perfect moment now that he's learned to be better. I'm not sure how much anyone learns in 60 PAs.
  19. I very much appreciate your consistency in viewpoint despite the move, but you're sort of alone in that. Most people that were defending the Vargas demotion have flipped their position along with the transaction. As if some magical light-switch got flipped that made their reasoning consistent. That's a bit hard to swallow.
  20. In April absolutely, but right before his demotion he was taking much better at bats. In any case, he didn't see the kind of pitchers pitches in AAA that were confounding him. His adjustment had to happen against big league off speed stuff.
  21. The producers said it came straight from their conversations with Martin. I'm not sure they should be shy about that sort of thing at this point.
  22. I don't think it will take a catastrophe for us to need 4 guys who aren't in the pen right now. Especially since we need at least two of them right now.
  23. There is a decent chance that by July we'll have need for Thielbar, Meyer, Tonkin, and Oliveros. You want their first innings to be in the middle of a hopeful pennant race? And what sort of message does it continue to send to the minor leagues that you can just flat out dominate and keep getting ignored?
  24. He could've worked on those things against the level of competition he has to adjust to while simultaneously helping Molitor avoid half a lineup like today's. I commend Ryan for recognizing this had to happen. I'm baffled it had to in the first place, but I'll take what I can get.
  25. To do what? What's changed? I hope he continues to pound fastballs and grooved breaking balls. It's what a lot of good hitters do.
