  1. The last few years of Twins Baseball was best watched with a Benny Hill soundtrack - what the hell are you talking about?
  2. So because some people aren't enamored with Gibson, we should move him to get Tulowitski? An older player who has had trouble staying on the field? This is somehow supposed to get us closer to....what exactly? Another year of Mike Pelfrey? I fail to see how that makes even an ounce of sense for accomplishing something this year or in the likely window with Tulowitski.
  3. Jesus Dave....give it a rest.
  4. If you think the A's believed the downgrade would be this severe, you're fooling yourself. He overplayed his hand here (and throughout the last offseason) and has largely set his team back with the moves he's made. He gave up more for than what he got out of Samardzjia, this deal looks like a huge loser, the Butler signing looks as dumb as was expected, and part of why they're in this boat (if you want to say bad luck) is largely due to his own design. (See, the infield defense and bullpen) Be a Beane fan all you want, but this last calendar year hasn't been good and his team's record shows it.
  5. This. And honestly, I'm not sure what their basis was for believing that in the first place.
  6. Yeah, I somehow goofed on that. Even still, three of the last four years have not been positive in this regard. That really worries me.
  7. A package lead by Berrios I could see, but not Gibson. That would be an instant deal-breaker for me.
  8. Frankly, to hell with WAR in a situation like that, it's not the best use of the stat. If your best player can't take the field that often it's a problem and it's unlikely to get better with age.
  9. I gotta say, some people are making solid arguments against the home/road split "problem". But the biggest issue is still the fact that he's only made it to 500 at-bats three times in his entire career. Only 300 or so (and sometimes less) the last three years. That's the scariest part.
  10. Except all their moves were designed, at least seemingly, to continue to contend. Most of the talents they acquired were major league ready. What it looks like to me, and it's the easiest explanation, would be that Donaldson complained about the team's strategy and got dealt and that Beane thought (foolishly IMO) that he was getting a comparable player in Brett Lawrie. The problem wasn't the strategy, it was what he targeted for a return.
  11. I love the idea, but I'd be lying if Tulo's injury history and splits away from Coors didn't give me pause at the price tag to trade him.
  12. In the case of Cahill, Gio, and Swisher - they were dealt during swoons when the team was 10-15 games under .500 that year or the previous year. There was no such problem for the A's this year - they were a playoff team that still had the makings of a good pitching staff. If they had kept Donaldson and signed Butler and traded for Zobrist it would've made far more sense.
  13. Given the money spent by Seattle I don't see them selling off young pieces. I think they'll keep firing bullets in FA to get the team contending.
  14. I do understand what you're saying spycake, but this particular deal and the subsequent moves don't seem to fit that pattern. And I think the explanation for that lies in the report about the feuds between Beane and Donaldson.
  15. Yup, I know how hard that is to imagine, but it's true.
  16. I reject your claim, I created the Duensing Rule in a very snippy response that would not be tolerated by our new overlords. I think Adam Brett-Walker and his cult followers will really push hard against this decision though.
  17. You mistake the demi-god that is Adam Brett-Walker, beware the new Duensing.
  18. Boy have things changed quickly at this position. (For good and then for bad again)
  19. I don't know, they are good questions to ponder. But I think our contending wagon is partially hitched to Buxton so I think it's going to be really tough to deal him. I also think he starts 2016 in CF, which means we should look to deal Hicks or Arcia for other needs soon.
  20. That's just it, if they wanted to truly contend than super cheap MVP candidates with tons of team control are the ones they should be looking to add and keep, not deal at the first sign of success.
  21. I agree, Farrell has been pretty good and Taylor Kitsch is somehow making an awful character semi-palatable. But good lord is everyone's dialogue over wrought.
  22. I think you take that chance with Buxton. Look - the reality is, we're going to have to take a serious risk in order to fix the position. Unless anyone is crazy enough to think we roll out the Brinks trucks to Wieters' house this offseason? Anything other than that is going to require some risk. I think Hicks for Norris is one of the least risky paths we could take. (It allows us to keep Plouffe or use him for another purpose for instance) All it requires is a leap of faith in Buxton.
  23. Every time Vince Vaughn says something like "I don't have bandwith for that right now" or any of the other hamfisted attempts to make his dialogue seem interesting - I cement my disinterest in watching Season 3 more and more. (Season 1 had sprawl problems too, just no one seemed to notice for some reason)
