  1. Yeah, I didn't love the bunt there, but it sure would've been nice to score with 1st and 3rd and nobody out also. The guys didn't execute well in that inning either.
  2. Seriously...10-7? Ruh-Roh Shaggy.....
  3. Well, as long as we agree that targeting voter fraud is pandering to win elections (like both parties do on a host of issues) - I think we're all in agreement. We just won't agree about "which is worst?" so I'm not sure it's worth hashing out.
  4. Oh I agree, Paul and Kasich are non-factors. But they are at least reasonable candidates. I like Carson as a person and I think he'd genuinely try to do a nice job, but I also agree that his total lack of political experience is a bad thing. I wish he'd run for Senate and come back to the Presidency in 4-8 years. As it stands, none of the guys with a chance to be the nominee have a chance to get my vote.
  5. There really isn't any reason to have faith Meyer could help, but he should still be up. Maybe he'd have a chance or two to wipe the ugly test of his first call-up aside. I wonder if the Twins are holding him out to avoid another confidence shattering beat down in the big leagues.
  6. Yeah Kasich and Rand Paul are the only ones you can even make a case for. Carson at least seems like a reasonable, good person too. But that's it.
  7. Yeah, the absurdity of the Republican base is the problem. I wonder when, if ever, the party is going to have to have (pun intended) it's own come to Jesus moment. There are many, many people that would describe themselves as opposing most left-wing programs or financial planning....but time and again the Republicans stand up and declare themselves totally unelectable. Until guys like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee aren't welcome on that stage, I'm not sure they'll have my vote.
  8. That would require logic and good sense to be a part of the opinion for these guys.
  9. To just prove that Republicans are morons.
  10. True, the investment wasn't grand and I'm still ok with them doing it, but his erratic production is a major concern for me.
  11. Well, that's not totally true. We invested in the assumption of him maintaining a high level of play through those years and I'm still not confident that's going to be true.
  12. I've been saying it for awhile, his erratic production really makes me worry about him as a long term investment.
  13. Or in Gardy terms: "comfortable, about to get swept position"
  14. I totally agree, the key is recognizing all the risks. That was the problem. No one predicted this from Escobar and would've been laughed off the site for suggesting it. Baseball is a funny sport
  15. Well, that, or the Padres have no clue what they're doing.
  16. The difference between a one game series and a seven game series isn't nearly as large as you're making it. They both are a MUCH smaller sample than the regular season and offer the same problems. That's just a natural consequence of having a playoff system to crown a winner.
  17. I was in the camp that was willing to take the risk at the price he was sold for, the problem was that anyone saying "The guy has been nothing short of fragile" was shouted down about how much WAR the guy could put up in 50 games. I really don't care about 50 games of WAR. I care about acquiring guys that will play well for more than 50 games a year and I'm very doubtful Tulo can do that going forward.
  18. He's said to be an elite defender.
  19. A 162 game season broken down into any short playoff series "cheapens" in the same way. There is simply no way to both have an end of year playoff and still honor the larger 162 game sample unless you suggest a "Best of 363" World Series or something. People just have to accept that the World Series winner is rarely the "best" team.
  20. I think if there was even a question of Tulo outproducing Escobar slightly right now we'd have 6 threads talking about it. The pro-Tulo folks constantly downplayed his injury problems. I think he'll produce when he's on the field at a much better rate next year. I also think him being out will be a regular occurrence for the duration of his career.
  21. I don't think you can cut the salary and reduce the terms. I think you probably have to raise salaries (at the state and federal level), lengthen each individual term, but limit total terms. I agree that the service model should be the ideal, but you still need to incentivize it properly in this day and age. I don't, however, understand most of the arguments against term limits listed in this thread so far. Almost all of them fall directly into the trap that years of legislation have built up: It appears as though it's a bad thing to impose term limits precisely because career politicians have stacked the deck in their favor. Take lobbying as just one small example: what politician (from either party) in their right mind is going to do anything about restructuring campaign finance (in a real and meaningful way) when the current system lines their pockets and fuels their campaigns? So much of what is wrong in Washington is because of entrenched ideas, beliefs, and processes that are designed to give the appearance that this is the only way it could be. There needs to be far less incentive to pass laws that make it good to be a long-term member of Congress and much more incentive to be an effective member for the short term.
  22. I was a big Tulo skeptic, but I was ok gambling for the price he was traded for, but damn if avoiding that deal doesn't look good right now. I think this injury (call it a fluke if you want) will be the first of many Toronto deals with.
  23. It's funny to hear people slamming a potential closer/reliever for "pouting" and being a bad teammate given who our current closer is. Sometimes a guy being upset is just passion for what he does. I think it's ok to go out and target that.
  24. I'd pursue him, but I'd rather spend money on the bullpen than trade assets.
  25. I think, if the team had a good QB in the wings, they should consider trying him out the next two games. Leidner is to the Gophers what Ponder was to the Vikings. A guy who can do some things, but is limited enough to make game-planning against him pretty easy.
