    Guys can lose money looking terrible in the field. And it can follow them to the plate. I understand the resistence, especially for guys that aren't particularly gifted in the field to begin with.

    I don't think Rose should be in the HOF, more the museum thing as mentioned before. But the league's hypocrisy on gambling is certainly of note too.

    This. NFL teams fear starting over at the QB position so they overpay good QBs who will never get them where they want to go. That roster is older, weaker, and nowhere near as setup to succeed as the one he QB'd early on. I expect this contract looks bad within a year or two.

    A team that started this poorly, with injuries like this, and their stars struggling is exactly the recipe that causes a team to just tank a season. The fact this team stayed together, rallied, and got scrappy is a data point Twins fans should consider in Rocco's favor. We don't see the actions that stop that spiral, but we see the results on the field. He should be getting more credit from folks. (Especially those who blame him for everything that goes wrong. If they have any integrity in their opinions)

    100%. Which is what was in my brain and yet somehow the dim-witted part typed 3B.

    First off - kudos to all the leadership on the team and the players, they are grinding. This is a team playing a style TK would be proud of. With Correa and Buck likely to be out for a week who are we calling up? I imagine we'll see Bader take over CF full time and is it finally time to see McCusker come up? Gaspar back up as a utility with Lee taking over SS and Castro at 2B?

    I mean....they won today off clutch homers from Vazquez and Clemens. They are putting up runs with two main stars playing putrid and two young studs out.

    The team had some rotten luck early that made them seem worse than they really are. The team is now having some crazy good luck that makes them seem better than they actually are. I think we can safely say that this team has four good starters and a good bullpen. It might even have a functional lineup when all the horses are back. But the infield defense and lineup will decide how far this team goes, it just needs to consistently scrape across 4 runs and we can be a legit shot to make the playoffs.

    For sure, we shouldn't expect this with the bat, but I won't complain if we get lucky and it continues either!

    Maybe, but I've always been a skeptic of the metrics on defensive runs saved and other measures. I don't think we've found a way to quantify good defense yet, at least not the scope of it.

    I know there were concerns when Bader signed about how much a good outfielder can impact games, but I think we're starting to see the limitations of defensive metrics. We run a flyball pitching staff (historically, I haven't looked at the data this year), in a park with some room in the OF, and we were playing plodding dudes out there the last few years. The night and day difference with Bader and Buxton out there is evident to my eye test. They're winning significantly at the margin for us.

    Ober wasn't sharp and that could cause us some bullpen issues in game 2. Let's hope SWR can come out and give us a good start. Nice to see this team keep getting contributions up and down the lineup.

    100%. And the fact they are so adamant against it only throws gas on the fire. Wemby got another running mate too at 6.5% odds.

    Lee at 3B, Keaschell at 2B, Correa at SS seems like the path ahead for as long as Correa doesn't hit the age cliff. Part of me sorta hopes the team is in a position at some point to deal Lopez for an answer at 1B. Then invest in Ryan/Ober/Zebby/Festa/other up and comers in the years ahead.

    The league really, really needs to find a way to make the lottery happen live. Or just abandon it. It hasn't done squat to deter tanking.

    Give the manager and the hitting coach credit: They're getting way more out of this lineup than they should by rights. Also, give the pitching coach credit: We wouldn't be here without our arms carrying the team right now.

    Ant and Julius having their way inside. In these next few games it's really be nice to get NAW and DDV going. We're getting less than nothing from those guys at this point.

    This feels like a race for the next Manning in the year ahead.

    I still think the lineup leaves something to be desired, but this pitching staff is really good. With the OF defense playing well, this team can rack up some wins if they just keep scraping together good at-bats. I liked how often we saw guys hit by going with the pitch today. They turned on inside stuff, they drove balls the opposite way when pitched outside. The manager is also getting the most out of this band-aid lineup right now. Hopefully that keeps happening until we get Wallner or Keaschall back. Or Lewis and Correa find their stroke again.

    Probably more than we'd like, but I think with the day off it was trying to get the W with his best. Hopefully we can give Jax two days off and let Stewart and Topa get us to 9 in a row.

    Buck is carrying the offense. Hopefully he can keep that going until Correa gets on track, Lewis gets his legs under him, Wallner and Keaschell get back. We may have a semi-competent offense when everyone is back.

    They're seriously wasting an elite defense too. Here's the bigger head scratcher than selling out in the draft: Lamar Jackson was available on the free agent market. Why not sign him?

    If they can just shoot competently from three the rest of the games should look like last night. We abused them down low and guys actually hit the kick-outs.
