  1. Hicks has repeatedly proven an inability to field consistently or hit righties. Rosario is going to have a much longer, much more successful career. Hicks may be lucky to have a job in 4-5 years.
  2. I agree, we can certainly argue about how good or bad the change has been, but there has been a change.
  3. All this team had to do was replace Duensing and Fien with Lowe and Milone and they'd have gotten younger and May could stay in the rotation. Really, that's all it'd take. And let's not get too caught up in May's stats. He hasn't even had 30 starts in the big leagues. I sure as hell hope people don't apply the same tough standards to Berrios or anyone else in their first 25. It's just not fair or realistic.
  4. I think the logic that "the bullpen isn't good enough, so we have to move May" fails to recognize that the bullpen could be much better if we had, you know, signed a guy or two.
  5. Seems like a dude with his head on straight.
  6. I agree, this is not 2001 Terry Ryan. He's still on the conservative side of the spectrum, but refusing to see how he has moved somewhat towards the aggressive is really being unfair.
  7. It's politics at their worst. Other than Rand Paul every single other plan up there is the same as what Obama is already doing. Well, and Trump too, but I try not to count him.
  8. If your answer to "do something" is "carpet bombing", that's not a libertarian position. That's "shock and awe" with a new name.
  9. You also were talking about parades two months ago if I remember right. Perhaps we shouldn't count our chickens yet.
  10. The thing is, if things are "about the same" as last year we're probably looking at a win regression because of that two month stretch where we played at an unsustainable rate. (Wins vs. run differential and runs scored vs. opportunities, etc.) We have to improve the roster and the performance just to maintain last year. I think it's possible, but two of the routes I see us best accomplishing it - the rotation (Duffy, May, Berrios all in the rotation striking people out) and the bullpen (adding some people who strike people out) - right now look to be trending the wrong way, not the right way. That makes me a bit worried.
  11. Well, it only took three pages for it to become an all-or-nothing thing. As someone that has been vocal against people for being too hard on the Twins for not signing a Grienke person, or for criticizing what I think is an interesting gamble on Murphy, or for not spending like drunken sailors....there is still plenty of room to criticize. We seem to be shying away from relievers due to money. We seem to be shuffling a talented kid with only 25 starts under his belt to the bullpen. We seem intent to wedge Milone and Nolasco into the rotation, one because he throws with his left arm and the other so we don't feel like the money is wasted. We seem intent on keeping Plouffe around to give him what will surely be a stupid extension. We continue to fill our bullpen with Casey Fiens rather than gambling on Burdi's or a hard throwing FA. And I'm still not sure where we value defense. This offseason gave us some good, aggressive moves at the outset that made me optimistic. Since then we've done nothing to a roster that still has plenty of needs. I'm not ready to declare it a failure, there is still plenty of time, but the reliever market thins by the day. It's time to keep adding to this team.
  12. Then the argument presented is a false one. It's Sano and Park vs Sano, Hunter, misc That isn't such a clear cut one as presented, largely because we have no clue what Park will be.
  13. Most accounts I've read said he was a catcher more by necessity than by any real skill. And no, the Twins have done a HORRIBLE job putting good fielders out behind their pitchers the last few years.
  14. Sure, when Buxton and Rosario are out there it will be more acceptable. When we see that is a huge question. I'm not worried so much about Sano being out there as I am the principle of moving him at all for a "meh" 30 year old third baseman.
  15. You realize those same three players were the guys that contributed heavily to the .656 OPS too....right? Your statline on Park is also likely optimistic. And even if Arcia and one or two other guys are upgrades, there are also regressions that are likely. So let's just be a little more cautious about our pom-poms. There is a lot with this team that is up in the air and anytime you are talking about young players you have to be, at best, cautiously optimistic.
  16. You're going to have to try harder to look at things here. One - they don't even have the DH option. Two - they have emphasized defense at other positions. We may be on the cusp of marching out a Sano-Rosario-Arcia outfield with a bunch of flyball pitchers. Also, everyone has said from the outset that Schwarber can't play defense. There was no mystery about him. He's out in the OF because there is no mystery about his weaknesses, not because he's being "blocked" by an average 30 year old and a fading former catcher.
  17. There is no guarantee Buxton breaks camp with this team. I'd put better money on Rosario or Santana playing there in April than Buxton. And even if he is playing, he still has to adjust to MLB pitching. Your other two claims are, at best, pie in the sky. I hope they happen, but odds are not strong that all of this is true. It's just not, no matter how much you want them to be.
  18. My conclusion is that the Twins wrongly believe there is an MLB rule that you must have a lefty starter in your rotation. Only thing I could come up with.
  19. So...wait, Arcia is a for sure upgrade over Hicks/Hunter? I like Arcia and I'm not even willing to say that. We somehow upgrade from Sano at DH with a totally unproven talent? Who even is our CF right now to make that other claim?
  20. This. If you're going to march Nolasco and Milone to the mound in lieu of Duffy and May....you don't get to hide behind a youth movement anymore. If you're going to move Sano to keep Plouffe/Mauer...you don't get to hide behind a youth movement anymore. Sorry, but either you're going to roll with Kepler, Duffy, May, Berrios, Sano at 3B, Buxton and the rest (in which case I understand patience) or you need to be aggressive. This middle ground is indefensible.
  21. Well, Ryan sort of ruled it out. And moving Sano to the outfield that early in the offseason would seem to indicate no desire to move Plouffe either. And it's really indefensible. If you insist on keeping Plouffe - move his butt to the outfield. Sheehan is right though, the problem is not necessarily Plouffe, it's Mauer. If he's not in the picture we don't even have to worry about this. And neither Mauer nor Plouffe are worth shuffling Sano to the outfield.
  22. Because you keep moving basically any significant talents so you are in a perpetual state of no depth, no farm, and not enough talent. I think it was a fine move, but we've heard the White Sox back patting enough I think. Last year there was a ton of it too.
  23. No one will force anything, that's a myth being pushed. And the anti-gay marriage voting seems to indicate the vocal 5% have plenty of support.
  24. This really has less to do with marriage itself and more with not liking the lifestyle. I think it's naive to think it would go away with this.
