  1. Brock, part of that post is responding to the idea that Dozier is on a trajectory to, I don't know, improve even more? Continue to be a 6 WAR player? A 4ish WAR player is a really good player, but there is too much talk that suggests he can maintain a 6 WAR pace. Maybe he can, but his history and age suggest otherwise. The real outlier would be a repeat of 2016, not settling back in as a very good 4 WAR player.
  2. That's not how it works.
  3. I'm sure there are plenty of smart kids playing football, but that doesn't change my belief that most of them aren't all that smart and are generally pretty impressionable. (I could probably cite GPAs and that stuff, but lets face it, a lot of those kids are at the U for athletics, not academics) I'm amazed how effective drivel like his is on people. I don't doubt his ability to make this schtick work though, we have a long, sad history of buying into this kind of nonsense in droves.
  4. I share your total disconnect with that mentality. I simply don't get it.
  5. Gun laws in this country never cease to amaze me.
  6. I'm sure the kids would eat it up. I'm also sure anything more than 4 years of it would lead to a homicide. I get that football players are largely not that bright, you'd almost have to be sort of dumb to put up with this schtick.
  7. Sure, but the player has to be ok with it and since they are it doesn't seem like much of an issue to me.
  8. Words can't do it justice. If you had to take a shot every time he said something bat s*%& crazy you'd be blind drunk 3 minutes in to a 40 minute presser.
  9. This was also news to me. Seems like a bad idea.
  10. Well, it's not really gaming things if Kenley and his agents are comfortable waiting.
  11. Airport shooting thread became about credit cards and moving seats in less than 10 posts. Bravo.
  12. Tim Brewster seems like a humble, soft spoken man of the finest articulation and grace compared to that schlockfest I just listened to. He might be a great coach, but I don't want to hear him talk. Ever again. Ever.
  13. I don't think I could spend more than 10 minutes with this guy talking without feeling the need to assault him. Good lord. Brewster has nothing on this guy.
  14. Remember, as spy pointed out, the argument is that we'll get more than Deleon + other good stuff. Even if we didn't quibble about DeLeon vs. Fulmer, the argument of "wait until the deadline" has to show we can do better than DeLeon plus Buehler plus a third piece. And neither the Zobrist or Cespedes deal is anywhere close to that. DeLeon may be superior by himself, much less the quality of second and third pieces we are talking. And, for the record, the prospect rankings I gave were for the mid-season BA rankings for those guys. So that was relative value at the time.
  15. Cespedes returned the Mets 7th and 16th best prospects. That would be like us taking Buehler and some guy we haven't even talked about. Zobrist returned the Royals' 3rd best prospect, but a guy who was a fringe top 100 in all of baseball. Neither of these deals remotely approach a deal headlined by DeLeon.
  16. Fleck doesn't run a Big Ten style, this is going to be interesting for sure.
  17. Pretty good tire fire. Less than Tomi Lahren would've been though....
  18. If you think Brian Dozier is a consistent 6 WAR player going forward I have a bridge I'd like to talk to you about. And a host of other scams because holy cow.....
  19. I'm telling you hoping for a hot streak AND a totally out of character mid-season haul is probably just being silly. Again, there is over a decade of evidence that hoping for a big haul from a hitter is folly. Not to mention the gamble that Dozier will choose to not suck to start the year. Hoping for highly rated prospects to pan out is not in the same league. That's not a double standard, that's just recognizing probabilities.
  20. I wonder what tire fire will be promoted into her spot....
  21. I don't disagree, but the drop in value from expecting 6 to 3 is rather huge. So if the Dodgers (reasonably so) are expecting 3, that is a sizable drop from what he produced last year.
  22. I would agree that those two examples are more valuable forms of team control than what Dozier represents, but that doesn't mean his future control is valueless. You seem to be making that leap. I would suggest cutting in half the team control one has over an under-priced asset is always going to diminish it's value and that's what is happening if we hold on to Dozier.
  23. From 6 to 3 is a rather substantial fall, if it doesn't quite match a "cliff"
  24. I think you're missing the point. I think the last decade or so has shown us that for hitters their peak value is rarely in July. 12 months from now you have Dozier with only one year of team control, which is a knock on his value. He'd have to increase his production for what you claim to be true.
  25. Hope for luck is better than near certain doom.....so, sure, if that's how you want to put it.
