  1. The settlements are wrong in many ways. But I'm less worried about them as I am the missles launched over their peaceful attempts to stay in their own borders. I'll worry more about whether their settlements are indeed a deliberate act on their part to enact a generations long plan for a future genocide when there is less direct, constant attacks on their existence. Until that stops, overly dramatic interpretations of the situation like yours are really misguided and not all that relevant.
  2. Sounds a lot like our moderate/independent conversation a few weeks ago. "You're either 100% with us or you're one of them!" And "them" is irredeemable and terrible. Fake news just plays on something already there.
  3. I agree with all of that. I also understand the Jews were worried about the relics and religious sites in the region, so there may not have been a good solution to this. But if that's the conclusion, then you give the Palestinians a state at the same time and compensate them for planting the Jews there on their land. The reality that anti-Israel people have to accept is that the state of Israel is surrounded by states that, if Israel was not a nuclear power, would annihilate them within minutes of hearing that. I would imagine having the barbarians constantly at the gates would make you pretty obstinate and protective.
  4. Planting a religious state in the middle east was absolutely stupid. But that was Europe trying to shuffle their shame elsewhere. That selfish, stupid decision set this all off.
  5. I do pity the Palestinians, they have gotten screwed over in many ways. Europe took their land to give to Israel and then their neighbors attacked Israel and created a war that lost them further land. So I absolutely grant they deserve their own state. Israel should try to work with those that want peace to establish that. I'd just suggest that Israel holds on because they believe any inch they give is going to turn into dozens of miles rather than just an inch. I can't say I blame them.
  6. Right and if they Twins were willing to accept a warm hug for him he'd probably be gone too. LEN really struggles to write coherently.
  7. Well, I think we all hope that's right. I was just trying to point out that the paragraph you read on MLBTR has basically no grounding in Neal's story. They came up with that 1:1 crap out of thin air.
  8. Well, a lot of the unrest and hate rests in a long-seated religious feud. I'm not sure you can separate them entirely. And no, the Palestinians and other neighboring countries (including Iran) still have it as a stated, not-secret objective. The Israelis do not.
  9. This is LEN's quote: "Anchor" implies to me the exact opposite of a one for one.
  10. I read the direct story from Neal and I don't think that was ever, even remotely, suggested. Look it up in an incognito browser. I think MLBTR really editorialized that.
  11. Where did LEN say it's one for one?
  12. They have not had the backing of the West. They've had our backing. The rest of the West does NOT back them. Europe wanted to dump that problem elsewhere and has continued to treat them with a similar level of spite. Settlements on a territory won (and ceded) in a war they didn't start is a far cry from stated objectives to commit genocide.
  13. I think there is a real lack of awareness here in the US about how strong anti-semitism is in Europe and the rest of the world. The UN is a sad reflection of that. I too think Israel has hardened too much (for some valid reasons and some not so valid reasons) for those peaceful solutions to happen.
  14. I think I find these grades more tolerable when I look them only as assessments of what was done with no context for expectations or anything else.
  15. I'm not sure I follow. The problem here is this: One side: "To preserve our existence we'll fight you" One side: "As long as we exist we will fight you" There seems to be the false notion that these are morally equivalent. I think drjim said this awhile ago, but I'm fully confident Israel would give back the West Bank and even disarm their nuclear program if they had full confidence their neighbors would hold the peace. And they have every reason to have zero confidence in that today.
  16. I'm sure, but I look at it like this: if we could find a way to give both sides what they want (A Palestinian state and Israel keeps Jerusalem) which side is more likely to jeopardize that peace? I'd guess the same one that did 50 years agony and for the same reason.
  17. Trade deadlines seem to be all about pitching the last 5 years or so. I think holding out for the deadline is a mistake.
  18. I'm ok with pushing back on Israel a little bit, but let's be clear also - not everything about the settlements is cut and dry. So much of the blame for that region rests with the West's sloppy handling of the situation in the first place. And both "sides" in that conflict bear a great deal of responsibility for this mess. I tend to slightly favor Israel, simply because they're not openly seeking to exterminate the other side. Which I think is sort of important to note.
  19. Dozier's arm didn't play well at short, I doubt it plays well at third.
  20. Winning is all that matters in any real way. Individual players sell very little relative to a major league team's revenue stream.
  21. I'd like to see Bradford working with the wide receivers one more time. Alright, free agent targets - who ya got? I put Zeitler at the top of my list. I'm not ready to say anything about OT until I see the market, but I think Zeitler will be available and he's perfect for RG.
  22. I was leaning posthumous. You optimist, you.
  23. Relatively speaking, let's hope it's much quicker that that!
  24. An awesome spring? C'mon now. I agree, we shouldn't take a bad deal, but we should be making it a priority to make this deal happen. Not for scrubs, but the deal has to happen. I consider going into 2017 with Dozier on the team a failure to negotiate what we needed.
  25. All of which is aided by trading Dozier. Getting good pitching out of this deal is the only way to think of 2018 as a real thing.
