  1. I posted two articles - one by Zulgad and one by Souhan. I could post another by Reusse if you'd like. It's simply false to claim these accusations "go away" when he's producing. He's been very productive up to this year so then the guise to attack this guy is a Mrs. Lovejoy-like "But what about the defense!" or "But what about his long term position!" and the like. And, as ashbury points out, there is an ever shifting set of goalposts for his "right" weight. And yeah, I drew some strong insinuations from this (and several other paragraphs - including the intro one) It is a phenomenal coincidence that Hageman’s instructive blog appeared online at the same moment Sano was overcome with a desire to hit more and longer home runs. He turned into baseball’s Uncle Rico — the guy from “Napoleon Dynamite” trying to get the football over “them mountains.” I guess I learned in early elementary that if my point truly is "he should produce more" I don't spend roughly 40-60% of my article talking about other tangents and making insinuations. It seems like the point was more to take the scenic route at his target and hit as many others as he could along the way.
  2. It's easy to lose Reusse's "point" when he spends a chunk blaming a blogger, rambles around about Sano's friends and his weight, and sprinkles in performance issues. And for those that think his weight issues will "go away" when he's performing? Well that's just demonstrably false. It seems like we find a new reason every few months to say "No..no, I'm not talking about his work habits or his weight! It's his (insert performance/injury/defense/etc here)! That's the real issue!" And yet, the only thing that ever stays consistent in these threads is bashing his weight, insinuating he is lazy and doesn't care, and questioning him as a person. There are legit criticisms and concerns to have for sure....but the way they happen every time is really unpalatable.
  3. You can do both, absolutely. I just feel like the emphasis is too much on the former and not the latter.
  4. Has he come back heavier? He doesn't look all that much different than last year IMO. I just get annoyed when people run with some rather large assumptions in their argument. We all want our Twins on the field and healthy and in the best shape to perform. But that is not a simple, one-size-fits-all desire. And I certainly wouldn't say "He's 300 pounds therefore he is lazy" (no one has expressly said this, but it is heavily implied) when you neither know if he is 300 nor do you have any idea of his work habits.
  5. This is so well said. Some are geting caught up in numbers with no idea of what Miguel Sano's health, body type, and other factors say is important. I've had people mistake me for 30 pounds lighter than I actually am. Why? Because I carry a significant amount of weight in areas people don't account for in looking at a person. Miguel is a big boy with a lot of muscle on his frame, I'm not surprised at all he weighs more than people expect. I think it's ok to feel the team needs to stay on his fitness levels, but reckless speculation based on rumors of weight and what you see are not particularly well founded IMO.
  6. I think it's the inconsistency that bugs people. I see a lot of doughy baseball players. Only one guy seems to get a lot of threads about it.
  7. Someone else brought up how Buxton does everything right and gave a glowing comparison of him. We have reasons to be concerned about both of our cornerstones. Particularly if both of them keep finding a way to miss big chunks of the season.
  8. Byron Buxton was insane for 150 plate appearances. That's it. He was pretty good for another month. Miguel did it for 250. And was even better. Then he did the same thing several other stretches of the last two years. And he has never been as putrid as Buxton has been for long stretches of seasons. If we're going to go down the Sano vs. Buxton line....let's be real frank: Buxton has been worlds below Sano in his offensive contributions.
  9. Byron Buxton has also had significantly less success in the majors and can't stay on the field. We're talking about why Miguel Sano can't go back to being a huge success at the plate. Buxton wishes he had a three month stretch like that.
  10. I'd argue they wouldn't give up on that potential if not for the off-field stuff. Then again, he's also an unrestricted FA after this year, so they're probably just getting ahead of their decision either way. (To their credit and your point) And his velocity trends tend to suggest there is no potential/recovery/hope left.
  11. Well, it's not all physical problems with him. Still....wow, what a precipitous fall for this kid.
  12. That's fair....he's trending in the wrong direction. And his physical fitness may be part of it. It may be an adjustment he's failed to make. It may just be small sample size at this point this year. We need him to be a better hitter than a .730 OPS guy with sub-par defense. That's for sure.
  13. Is anyone lambasting Dozier about his .668 OPS after he went vegan this offseason? I do think the team should be working with Sano behind the scenes to help make him a better player. It'd be nice if Reusse found a way to say that without insinuating Parker Hageman was to blame. Or just said it in a way that wasn't so insulting. Or hypocritical. But....whatever. I'll keep rooting for Miguel and the Twins to get this right. And I'll keep rooting for Dozier too, regardless of what dietary choices he makes.
  14. He's all of those things....and he's the President....because people voted for him. (And care to support him further) I wish the left cared a little more about being effective over being indignant.
  15. IMO, he was probably the most fearsome hitter of his era. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but nobody would've made me more nervous to face in a clutch situation as a pitcher.
  16. I just worry that banging the drum of "he paid off the porn star he slept with!" doesn't accomplish what some people think it does. I think for many Trump trogolodytes....the whole issue is amusing and speaks to why they love him. You want to pound Trump and help lose elections for Republicans? Pound him on the lies that matter to them like: He keeps saying his wall is being built and it isn't. He's screwing over rural whites who are being gouged thanks to his trade wars. Etc. This? This may actually have the opposite effect. Call him out for the lies and the shady stuff, sure. But that's not the drum to bang.
  17. Reusse wasted a lot of space to write "Sano is still fat" again.
  18. This is not to defend the awful defense he's been playing....but good teams can have a guy like Grossman on the bench. He's been a solid offensive contributor for a bench player. The problem is that whatever defense he had has eroded as a Twin (this guy used to play CF in minor league ball!) and now he can't even provide a decent bat off the bench. He should be platooning with LoMo and giving spot starts, which is a fine role for him. Not this though.
  19. Well, just being realistic. They could've signed another outfielder too, earlier in the offseason. But after we signed the pitchers it became apparent they were pushing money into the team and Gomez was a perfect fit for us. Plus, I think the locker room could use a little bit of a spitfire personality too.
  20. Absolutely, the room is already a mess but Molly didn't have to throw his dirty clothes in the pile. But...the mess was there either way.
  21. This team needed to sign Gomez, not LoMo. Said it at the time too.
  22. The pitchers you want Molly to leave in or bring in are all terrible. It's lose-lose. The problems are more systemic than managerial pitching decisions.
  23. You haven't been. There were all those threads this week with "Why didn't he leave Gibson in!" and the same with Berrios.
  24. So....Molly leaves in his starter.....I'm sure everyone ripping him for an early hook will stay totally consistent in their criticism! But seriously Molly....keep Grossman out of the outfield.
  25. His original column is worth reading. This Q&A goes a bit sideways.
