  1. Yeah the BoSox announcers suggested Gibson threw up and in on JD because he owns Gibby. So they retaliated.
  2. I'm ready to talk extension with him. Worst case scenario you have a versatile player that is very valuable to a team. What would he take? 4 years and 40M? 4/60? The more I think about it the less confident I am in my guesses.
  3. Damn that Thorpe start is nice. I think by this time next year we look at Thorpe and Graterol as our best future rotation pieces. Or at least the ones with the most upside.
  4. Parker had a good article on the pitching moves and how Molitor isn't all that out of step as some think. Poor baseball might just be the result of how many poor baseball players Molitor is forced to march out there right now. And no, I think he's much lower than the COO. I think a baseball manager is much more like a secretary/office manager. Or a figurehead. They simply don't have enough pull in FO decisions and their in-game decisions have been largely neutered as well.
  5. I don't think the manager in baseball is the manager of the organization. He's more like a "team lead". If even that. Probably closer to an office manager who organizes things, sets schedules, answers questions, etc. Are those people valuable? Sure, absolutely. Do I think firing one is going to make Steve in Accounting any better at accounting? Probably not. I do put stock into the value of a good clubhouse, but I think the coaching staff as a group can set that tone. (Which is why I could see an organization switching away from a single manager to a specialized group of guys to manage) Or the owner. Or the Front Office. Or all of them together. And whatever clubhouse culture they set up is completely beyond our ability to judge because we see next to none of it. I don't see any signs that Twins players are miserable and not having fun and that they hate Molitor. Do you?
  6. He's human, willing to work 162 nights a year (including weekends), knows how to use antiquated phone system, good at slapping people on the back, can copy names accurately. So, like the other 29 guys.
  7. I personally like manager with bad record - “not enough talent, not his fault” I personally don’t like manager with poor record - “everything is his fault, talent is irrelevant” I hope we give Molitor a lifetime deal or fire him just to save some of you from your own posts.
  8. Rogers and Hildy getting back to what we expected would do a world of good for this team.
  9. That was a great post with criticism. It was fair and well argued. I'd suggest a lot of what you mean by this "magic touch" idea is really just luck. I'm not sure Molitor, or anyone else, has a whole lot of control over that. It's not like Terry Francona suddenly forgot to manage a bullpen this year. The Cubs are at the bottom of the league in fielding, is that because Joe Maddon has lost his touch on where he plays guys? Or had a fundamentals breakdown?
  10. Good question. It would not shock me if in the next 20 years some team did away with the manager role as we know it.
  11. Frankly, I think the next dog you see could manage a baseball team to about 2 less wins than Maddon. That's how much I think of the position in the current baseball context. If Molitor is fired or retained I think it's largely irrelevant.
  12. Yes, less than 10 posts ago that was dragged out.
  13. I'm pretty sure I clearly indicated how I appreciate Nick's criticism. So...no. Isn't this the same kind of complete disregard for comprehending a post you often complain about? Be critical with evidence. And consider context. Parker's post on the bullpen stuff has seemingly been ignored but is pretty important to consider. But "Tom Kelly would've X" is immediately a really, really bad argument.
  14. Tom Kelly had 8 consecutive seasons under .500. And I could find all kinds of absurd things he did in his managing times. Ditto Gardy. Debates about the quality of a MLB manager result in so many absurd, inconsistent arguments it makes my brain hurt. This thread is not disappointing in that respect. I appreciate that Nick attempted to stay above that.
  15. In my opinion the vast majority of the impact a manager makes is beyond our ability to see. We can criticize bullpen management and some other aspects of their job but for the most part what they do is behind the scenes. I'm not sure Molitor is the problem but this is at least a valid attempt at some criticism. Too often the manager gets all the blame for things going wrong and none of the credit for things going right. Personally, I put the vast majority of the blame for Sano and Buxton on the previous FO and their criminal neglect of the development process. And those two guys (And Dozier going pumpkin) are the biggest culprits for this mess.
  16. Even in the analytics era the nerds still seem to agree about one non-statistical team building philosophy: don’t employ cancers.
  17. Cleveland seems to be a sub-par defensive team with some serious bullpen issues. They can be caught if we ever get our act together.
  18. Gibson is a stark example of why you need to be super careful about ever giving up on a talented pitcher. I never expected this, but I also never thought cutting him when we still had team control made any sense either.
  19. So Cave, Sano, and Petit are out and we know Mauer is in. Who else fills the roster spots?
  20. We basically can't do anything for a month whether we want to or not. Teams just don't like to deal until mid-July. I'm not going to hold my breath though.
  21. Dozier is playing himself into an extension with us! Yay! Wait.....
  22. These have become an excellent addition to the site. As a displaced Twins fan they are invaluable, thank you.
  23. That's good! My problem with manager criticisms is they are almost always so unfair and inconsistent they render the poster's views as nonsense. Look no further than Buxton is Monitor's fault but no credit for Rosario. Nonsense.
