  1. I have always liked Logan and he would be a good buy low but he doesn't fit very well on a team that has Doumit, Willy and Arcia. If you did pick him up then Parmelee probably doesn't have a place on the roster. Doumit might not have a place regardless...
  2. According to Stark with Kuroda and Beltran signed the Yankees are all tapped with the exception of ARod's suspension dollars if they are serious about the 189M cap. And that includes some funny accounting that freed up 10M. They will have to be very certain that ARod is gone for the season if they want to avoid the luxury tax.
  3. I like your trade. I'm not sure Mauer will outproduce Davis but Fister must be very overlooked. I think he will thrive moving to the Nats. I owned Schoop forever and finally traded him last year as an extra piece in a blockbuster. My gut says he might be a starter but not a very good one. He has been pushed through the minors aggressively though. Welcome Ben. I wasn't sure if that was you or not. You have a couple of nice pieces but your minors need some work. At some point I will have to unload a few veterans (Scutaro, Weeks, Dejesus) but I'm not in any hurry since these guys won't be in demand.
  4. Usually you have to give up something valuable to get a nice prospect. Willingham, Doumit and Parmelee basically have zero value.
  5. The question I find myself asking is 'Why shouldn't Tanaka be a FA?' He has had a successful career and imo it would be silly to just allow the worst teams to sign the best Asian/Cuban FA's that have had long pro careers in their own countries. yes, it's likely that the best Asians will sign with big market teams but that's FA.
  6. Because the next team might not offer +15%. It will be interesting to see how the rules actually play out on this.
  7. And just for the record I'm all for trading prospects (big trades) at the right time. But this is not the right time.
  8. Probably because he's short. I would be interested if there was anything based on his stuff.
  9. It's not that the Twins don't have pitching prospects. It's that the Twins have finally addressed this horrible weakness in the minors. Trading a couple that we have for a FA in 2 yrs could really hurt the team long term.
  10. I don't think you guys appreciate just how long these contracts are for. It's possible to play at a decent level until you are 40+ but that is the exception. And just to be clear I don't think any of these 3 players are done. It's just that Pujols and Votto still have 4+ yrs until they hit the 2nd half of the contract. And Pujols days of hitting .300 are over. Maybe he has one more .300 season but he won't he even average close to that over the next 8 years.
  11. Perhaps on Fielder but we are talking about 7 more years and he wasn't elite last year. Pujols has shown decline for 3 straight years (with 8 years left). http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/albert-pujols-swift-descent/ Votto's new contract hasn't even started yet. He has 10 more years left.
  12. I'm for it but I think the Twins spent the money needed to sign Garza on Nolasco and Hughes. Yes, they still have more money available but I have a hard time believing that they are going to commit all of that money to FA's in one offseason. it would also be nice to save some of the payroll flexibility in case it makes sense to go after Bailey (next year) or Price (in two years) or some other FA who would be closer to his prime while the prospects are hopefully peaking.
  13. I think this has a long way to go before it can be considered the worst contract ever. I'm glad the Twins didn't jump into this though. 1. ARod - the Yankees bid against themselves 2. Howard - They extended for 138M 2-3 seasons before his contract ended and he was broken before the new contract even started. 3. Zito 4. Fielder/Pujols/Votto - 3 ridiculously long extensions to 1Bman 5. Hamilton - this looked a little questionable at the time but he has been exceptionally awful. 6. Tex - 3 more years left as he enters the death spiral part of his career 7. CCrawford - basically the equal of Ellsbury's 8. Cano? 9. Verlander - He showed signs of slowing last year and Leyland has run up some pretty high pitch counts on his arm. 10. Wells extension from the Blue Jays. They paid elite player prices ridiculously backloaded for a good player that barely deserved to be on a baseball field for half of the contract. An interesting argument could be made for/against any of these being better/worse than Ellsbury's deal. And there are probably 5-10 more that could be added to these.
  14. I could handle Suzuki as a 60 game catcher with Pinto catching 102 and Doumit catching <3 innings.
  15. If Murphy is being given away for a borderline top 30 prospect then this would be great. 4M or so in arb and a 2nd arb year is a good value even if he's nothing more than the LH part of a 3B or OF platoon. The Twins definitely need to add some OF veteran OF depth to this team because I don't have that much confidence in the current roster.
  16. There are very few professional organizations that I would strongly be against playing for but the Loria Marlins are one of them.
  17. If we are talking about harrison, Walker or Kepler level prospects then I love it. If we are talking about Rosario or Arcia level prospects then I'm not as interested.
  18. I don't follow. they passed on Hudson but later signed Kazmir in his place. they also traded basically nothing they needed for 2 very good RP'ers on one year contracts. Individual RP'ers might be overrated but but a deep elite bullpen shortens the game considerably. And I think part of Beane's strategy has always seemed to pick up unwanted veterans on short contracts. edit - and spend his budgeted money. He always seems to spend the same amount of money.
  19. Trading a borderline top 100 prospect for a very good #2/3 starter is a steal. If you don't like the Span for Meyer deal then compare this versus the Shields/Davis for Myers/Odorizzi trade or the Dickey for D'Arnaud/Syndergaard trade.
  20. I would trade 5 Trevor Mays for Fister so that isn't saying much.
  21. I do not understand at all. The Tigers still have a great rotation but they should have received something worthwhile back. That's one of the key parts of trading from a strength.
  22. Good deal for the A's and it would have been a good one for the Twins. Let's not forget that Kazmir had only thrown 350 MLB innings since 2008 (his last good season) and those innings were quite awful. Perhaps he bounced back last year and this will work out well. Or perhaps this is 22M flushed down the toilet. Luckily (for an MLB team) that amount won't cripple a team.
  23. Yes, the whole problem (that I had) last year was that Corriea was the best pitcher added. That's what upset me. I thought Corriea was fairly valued but I was also hoping for more upside.
  24. The starting staff still isn't very good (much better though) and the offense is completely dependent on rookies to show a significant improvement. Right now the Twins are shooting for 75 wins but the offseason isn't over yet.
  25. Except that it's not possible for them to be the 6/7/8 guys. Maybe one of them can be the long man but other than that they are either in the rotation or DFA'd.
