  1. While Shields is infinitely better than any starter on our roster besides Liriano he isn't that good. He had an amazing season last year but this year and his 2009-2010 seasons were not good. That said, I'd welcome him with open arms since like I said he is better than anyone we would have next season.
  2. Teams that never win are the ones saying the playoffs are a crapshoot. Beane said it, we say it. You don't see Boston, New York, or Philadelphia saying it.
  3. Liriano is better than anyone we would acquire via trade or FA. Even if we only get "half a season" out of him it's still half a season more than any of our other starters. I would rather spend twice as much on him than I would to sign two Marquis/Hernandez/Ortiz/Ponson's. You can't open up a season with Diamond, Walters, Blackburn, Devries, whatever ****ty FA we sign. You just can't.
  4. This just magnifies how terrible Smith is.
  5. http://baseballplayersalaries.com/players/137_Matt_Capps Matt Capps is overpaid... http://baseballplayersalaries.com/players/155_Drew_Butera Drew Butera is very valuable...
  6. Then throw in Burton. He's better anyway. BTW when I googled his contract I came upon this website which made me laugh: http://baseballplayersalaries.com/players/553_Jared_Burton Total Stud.
  7. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to laugh or cry at this rotation.
  8. I was all for resigning Santana and Hunter (not Cuddyer). The difference would have been that Santana and Hunter have remained relatively consistent with what their established normal seasons were, whereas signing Mauer after his huge outlier season got many people into the mindset that 2009 would be his new career norm... at least that's what we're paying him like. I think 2009 was the worst thing that could have happened to Mauer. Unreasonable expectations were now built in ("If he did it before, why can't he do it again" etc). If he had hit 320/400/450 like he always did we'd probably be much more content with the production we're getting from him now.
  9. Once we pick up his option we'll have an entire calendar year to bitch about him.
  10. There's very little difference between Marquis, Ortiz, Hernandez, and Blackburn.
  11. Yadier Molina must be worth 35 million then according to Fangraphs. What was Mauer worth during his 09 season? 50 million?
  12. Liriano > Oliver Perez > Sanchez Three southpaws with good "stuff" who aim their pitches toward outer space.
  13. No, because I don't think we'll get anybody better than him.
  14. Stephen Covey dies at 79. Dammit!
  15. Not in the sense that he's a guy I would want to run out there. I'm sure he'll get his fair amount of starts but we've done the same for dozens of non-major league caliber starters.
  16. That was the supposed Johan trade offer.. or at least what Twins fans hoped for.
  17. This. I don't think any of the four are MLB caliber starters, although Diamond has been making a habit of proving me wrong this season.
  18. I'm watching the Blue Jays game and Buck Martinez just said, "There's speculation that the Angels are in talks with the Twins for Francisco Liriano... and Matt Capps." What would a possible trade with the Angels look like?
  19. It's okay, this is the '88 A's he's facing.
  20. Why would anyone want Blackburn?
  21. Last year my buddy found a garage sale that was selling unopened packs of 1988 and 1992 Topps baseball cards for their original price that was listed on the package. He bought about 20 of them and we had a blast ripping through them. Oh the names, the mustaches, the memories! Chris Sabo, Lenny Harris, Chris Nabholz! What could be better?
