  1. I agree with this regarding Burdi. However I do not think that the Twins can afford to throw players out there until they stick in a season they compete. And they are competing right now. Also agree that having both Wilk and Haley makes no sense. Their role is that of a mop up pitcher, in case eg. Hughes or Gibson leaves after 3, but you really need only one of those...
  2. .302/.405/.460: Mauer's slash line the last 4 weeks Looks like the line of an every day regular in any position in any team from here, given his above average D at 1B (according to pretty much every measure out there) Vargas and Grossman have had defensive issues, but they are also hot with the bat. I'd love to see them platooned at DH (with Grossman against LHP right now, plus taking half starts at LF). Rosario has cooled off and approaching DanSan levels and has an option left, but the Twins have really not much of an option in AAA (Palka .726 OPS, Granite .697 OPS). Wade is hitting .296/.424/.437 in 'nooga, but is that too much of a leap of faith? So, you kinda have to play all three, but Mauer does deserve it at this point.
  3. Devil is in the details. Both of them, and esp. Hildenberger who lost a couple of ticks in his FB this season, btw, are vulnerable against LHBs with ERAs in the 4s for both. This does not translate well in the majors and the Twins would let them pitch against them, as well... Burdi on the other hand, is lights out against both lefties and righties...
  4. He picked up where he left. Hitting .095/.136/.190 with the Braves
  5. Dozier has been hitting better recently (.911 OPS the last 4 weeks), but he still is .105/.200/.158 with men on (65 PA) and .337/.427/.584 with bases empty (117 PA) for the season. So a lot of his hitting is not doing the damage he could do. I am trying to find league wide LOB for hitters, I suspect that he will be leading the league in that, or close to it... Vargas is the opposite. He is hitting .344/.333/.656 with men on and .214/.267/.429 with bases empty. Is Vargas a better overall hitter than Dozier? Not really. But Dozier is not as good situational hitter as Vargas is... That's what the data shows. Who of the two would I want at the plate with the game down one, bases loaded and 2 outs? Data says it better be Vargas, esp. with a RHP... Thus the perception why Vargas might be better than Dozier. But, Dozier is over-rated
  6. Sub "Adrianza" with Gimenez, and he got it about right. Nice clubhouse guy and all... Twins' ERA with Castro catching: 3.38 (1118 PA) with Gimenez catching: 5.98 (5.14 PA) Berrios' hiccups yesterday with Gimenez is another indication of the problem here. Plus SSS or not, Adrianza has a .952 OPS, Gimenez' is .604 (and .638 vs LHPs)... BTW, Garver is hitting .313/.389/.625 vs LHPs in Rochester #FreeMitchGarver
  7. True. But 5 solid guys these days, without 2 exceptional lights out guys, do not make a competitive bullpen. Would those lights out guys be Burdi and Chargois? Maybe, but the Twins need that
  8. Sub "Buxton" for "Rosario" and let us know how do you feel about it? Fact: Buxton is hitting worse than Rosario at this point; so his leash should be shorter than Rosario's
  9. Seth Romero does not have many options other than transfer right now...
  10. Because I think that Burdi and Jay will be able to help the pen this season (and the pen needs help this season) and Romero has the potential to be an Archer-type pitcher
  11. Ok. What would be close to getting Archer then, as far as prospects not named Burdi, Jay and Romero and any MLB players not named Santana, Berrios, Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco go? They should try to do that.
  12. He looks like Johnny Damon minus the wheels. I'd be happy if he have Damon's career.
  13. I think that both Wright and McKay can go to AA to start, but they will not be ready to help the team this season. They will be starting to learn the pro game (and it is different than the college game) I think that external help is needed to keep competing this season, and the Twins will have to make a choice very soon on whether they want to compete or not.
  14. Gibson and Wimmers were late round picks. Both of them were the 7th College pitchers taken in their draft. Jay was a reliever and his future has yet to be determined. Cannot be compared to Wright or McKay. Really.
  15. Other potential target could be Ivan Nova (30 yo, 2 years of control 2017: $7M, 2018: $8.5M, 2019: $8.5M) of the Pirates. I'd start the discussion with Kyle Gibson, and let them pick one of Gordon, Gonzalves, Stewart, and Blakenhorne and if they are willing to include Starling Marté (28, 5 seasons control until his age 32 season, 2021, $5M, $7.8M, $10.3M, opt $11.5M, opt $12.5M), I'd give them all of the above and let them take their pick of either Grossman or Rosario. Would love to see what an OF of Marte, Buxton and Kepler can do for the next few seasons (after Marte returns from his suspension of course...) They got to shoot high...
  16. There have been rumors (MLB Network) that the Rays will be listening to offers for Chis Archer. Sure bet top of the rotation pitcher, 4 years control + this season (up to his age 33 season) in excellent terms (2017: $4.8M, 2018: $6.2M, 2019: $7.5M, 2020 Team Option: $9M ($1.8M buyout) 2021 Team Option: $11M) I'd blow the farm for him and throw in Gordon, Gonzalves, Stewart, and Blakenhorne their way, none of who are sure things (and in Gordon's case there are better alternatives both ahead and behind him) and will try to see if they will throw a pen arm like Tommy Hunter (calf strain returning to action in a couple weeks.) Or go after Jake Odorizzi (first year of arbitration - 2 years left beyond 2017) with a smaller package Sick and tired of the Twins going after bandaids and fillgaps. Championship teams are building for the future and with a 4 season or so window with the current young core, they should look for supplementing with players who fit that core time frame, like Archer...
  17. Sure. The Twins have it, but it is in AA
  18. I would love it if the Yankees would trade Severino for Santiago plus Gordon; it ain't happening...
  19. Nah, I think that the Twins will trade the first round pick for 2 second rounders, international pool $, and next years' first rounder. Wrong. Sport.
  20. I think that Brunansky as a hitting coached messed up Mauer. Check his BB:K ratio pre Brunansky and post (14:16 this season.) A full month ago, looking at the numbers, I predicted that it looks that Mauer might have a breakthrough season in 2017 with an .850 OPS +. Still stand by this prediction...
  21. Interestingly enough, the best starter (in 32 GS 194-2/3 IP not Duffey's 10 games 58-1/3 IP SSS half of it after the rosters expanded) was Kyle Gibson who struggled in 2017. Is he a failed starter?
  22. Quick: Give me the name of one high school pitcher this organization developed (this millennium) and then ask yourself whether anyone would have confidence in them doing that now.
  23. There is another thing that the Twins have to look at, which has not been discussed: 11 = the current number of LHSP in the Twins organization (above Rookie leagues) 1 of which (Santiago) is a MLB FA past this season, and 4 (Turley, Hurlbut, Wheeler, Tracey) are minor league free agents after this season. This leaves 6 under contract for 2018, above Rookie leagues: Mejia Wilk Gonsalves Wells Thorpe Carlini Thus is the sorry state of the LHSP in this organization and drafting McKay will go long ways fixing it.
  24. Lot of homeristic helium on Carlson. I just do not see him go until the supplemental picks at the very best.
  25. Sports illustrated does not have a mouth or hands to call anyone. The person who called Greene that in Sports Illustrated is Lee Jenkins, their basketball , and mainly NBA writer. Matter of fact, this is his only baseball piece in SI. Mountain of salt the size of Dead Sea needed there regarding taking his opinion as anything close to "expert". Wishing the kid well, but the Twins should (and hopefully will) pass and get someone another pitcher who is more of a surer bet to help them sooner than later.
